Eight former 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) student-athletes have taken home a medal with their respective teams at the 2024 IIHF U18 World Championships.
Seven former CSSHL alumni have won Gold with Team Canada, defeating former CSSHL product EJ Emery and Team USA.
Among the 22 skaters and 3 goalies to win Gold with Team Canada include the following 7 former CSSHL student-athletes:
- Charlie Elick – Edge School
- Reese Hamilton – Northern Alberta Xtreme
- Tij Iginla – RHA Kelowna
- Ollie Josephson – Pacific Coast Hockey Academy
- Gavin McKenna – RHA Kelowna/South Alberta Hockey Academy
- Ryder Ritchie – RHA Kelowna
- Carson Wetsch – BWC Academy/North Shore Warriors
In his first U18 World Championship’s, McKenna set the Canadian record for goals (10) and points (20) at a single U18 tournament. His 20 points were second in tournament scoring and first among Canadians.
Iginla would finish third in team scoring with 6 goals and 6 assists. Former RHA Kelowna team Ritchie added 4 goals and 4 assists to finish fourth in team scoring. Elick, Josephson and Wetsch would all finish with 3 points.
Emery, who played three seasons in the CSSHL with BWC Academy and Yale Hockey Academy, recorded six assists in seven games to bring home a silver medal.
The tournament took place in Finland from April 25-May 5, 2024. Canada opened the tournament with a 6-3 win over Sweden. They would go on to beat Czechia, Switzerland, and Kazakhstan to close out the round robin at the top of Pool B. They would beat Latvia 4-0 in the quarters before dispatching Sweden 5-4 in the semi-finals, setting up a date with Team USA in the finals. Canada would fall behind 3-1 before a McKenna hat-trick gave his team a come-from-behind 6-4 win.
