CSSHL student-athletes Levi Benson and Harry Mattern have signed WHL Scholarship and Development Agreements with their respective teams.
Benson was selected in the sixth round, 118th overall at the 2022 WHL Draft but his rights were traded to the Kelowna Rockets on June 25. Having gave up a second, third and conditional sixth round pick to acquire Benson, the Rockets signed the Chilliwack, BC forward. Benson joined the CSSHL in 2020/21 with the Yale Hockey Academy U15 team. The following U15 Prep season he would tally 28 points in 30 games. During the 2022/23 season he would lead all U17 Prep skaters with 47 assists and 63 points, being named a finalist for the CSSHL U17 Prep MVP Award. This season Benson finished second on his Yale U18 Prep team with 50 points in 29 games.
A defenseman from Sherwood Park, AB, Mattern joined the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) for the 2022/23 season. He would record 34 points in 27 games as he was named the CSSHL U15 Top Defenseman. He would add seven points in five playoff games as NAX captured the 2023 CSSHL U15 Western Championship. This season he would tally 13 points in 25 games, and an additional 7 points in 5 playoff games, helping NAX capture the 2024 CSSHL U15 Prep Western Championship, their second in as many years. The Spokane Chiefs selected Mattern in the second round, 34th overall at the 2024 WHL Draft.
