Former Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) student-athlete Rylind MacKinnon has signed a PWHL contract with the Toronto Sceptres.
MacKinnon made her PWHL debut with Toronto on November 30, tallying 1 assist in a 3-1 win over the Boston Fleet.
Undrafted at the 2024 PWHL Draft, MacKinnon is one of two players making history in the PWHL this season. MacKinnon and Emmy Fecteau have become the first players to graduate directly from U SPORTS hockey and make the jump straight to the PWHL. Carley Olivier became the first U SPORTS graduate to play in a PWHL game last season after signing a reserve contract, but MacKinnon and Fecteau will be the first on full-time contracts.
MacKinnon joined the 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) in 2015/16 with the NAX Female U18 Prep team. Her first two seasons with NAX saw her record 13 points in 28 games. The Cranbrook, BC defender would take a massive step forward for the 2017/18 season, tallying 4 goals and 16 assists in 20 games while being named the CSSHL Female U18 Prep Top Defenseman and MVP.
She would join the University of British Columbia for the 2018/19 U SPORTS season, earning Canada West All-Rookie Team honours after posting 15 points in 28 games. She would wrap up her U SPORTS career in 2023/24 with a career high 22 points in 26 games to earn Canada West First Team All-Star honours. Overall, in 126 U SPORTS games MacKinnon tallied 34 goals and 47 assists.
