The Tri-City Americans have signed Alexander Laing and Savin Virk to WHL Scholarship and Development Agreements.

The Langley, BC forward was selected in the fourth round, 69th overall by the Americans at the 2024 WHL Draft. Laing joined the CSSHL for the 2022/23 U15 season, tallying a team high 22 goals, 27 assists and 49 points in 27 games with Delta Hockey Academy.

Last year he would record a Delta Green team best 24 goals, while his 49 points placed him second in team scoring. This season Laing has 4 goals and 5 assists in 12 U18 Prep games with Delta.

Laing recently played for Team BC at the 2024 WHL Cup, finish fifth in team scoring with five points in five games.

With the recent announcement that CHL players are now eligible to play in the NCAA, Virk joins the Americans after they selected him in the third round, 46th overall at the 2022 WHL Draft. The Surrey, BC forward is currently committed to Michigan State University.

Virk spent three seasons in the CSSHL with Yale Hockey Academy, joining the team for the 2020/21 U15 Prep season. The following U15 Prep campaign he would finish fourth in league scoring with 72 points in 29 games. His 44 assists and 72 points were all a team best.

The following U18 Prep season Virk returned to Yale, posting a team best 26 goals and 47 points in 29 games.

Led by former OHA Edmonton coach Derrick Martin, 15 current or former 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) student-athletes helped Team Alberta capture gold at the 2024 WHL Cup.

Martin and his coaching staff, which included fellow former OHA Edmonton coach Ryan Allen, led Team Alberta to an 8-1 win over Team Manitoba in the gold medal game.

Current CSSHL student-athlete’s Brock England (Team AB/Edge School), Eddy Spytz (Team BC/St. George’s School), Brock Cripps (Team BC/St. George’s School), Graeme Pickering (Team MB/RHA Winnipeg) and Cash Christie (Team BC/St. George’s School) were named to the WHL Cup All-Star team. The final All-Star team spot belonged to former CSSHL student-athlete Blake Chorney (Team SK/Northern Alberta Xtreme) who led the tournament in goals (7) and points (11). Cripps, England, Chorney and Pickering were all named their Teams Top Performer by the WHL.

Among the 80 total players included 47 current or former CSSHL student-athletes making up 59% of the four rosters. BC led the way with 18, Alberta sat second with 15, Manitoba with 12, and Saskatchewan with 2.
