Four CSSHL student-athletes have signed with the Calgary Canucks for the 2023/24 Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) season.

Luke Davies spent the last three seasons with the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX). In four U15 Prep games in 2020/21 he would tally two points. The following U16 Prep season he would finish with 24 goals and 14 assists in 31 games. He would add four points in five playoff games as NAX captured the 2022 CSSHL U16 Prep Western Championship. This season the Calgary, AB forward finished with 20 points in 31 U18 Prep games.

A forward from Calgary, AB, Gavin Garland played four seasons in the CSSHL. He joined Edge School in 2019/20, recording 31 points in 25 U15 Prep games. He would join Delta Hockey Academy Green for the 2020/21 U15 Prep season, tallying nine points in four games. In 2021/22 Garland would record 35 points in 20 regular season games and 13 points in 5 playoff games as Delta captured the 2022 CSSHL U17 Prep Western Championship. This past season Garland would play for International Hockey Academy (IHA), finishing third among all U18 Prep skaters with 58 points in 32 games.

Jett Koch spent the last three CSSHL seasons with Edge School. In 2020/21 he would finish with six points in five U16 Prep games. The following U17 Prep season the Calgary, AB forward would finish fifth in team scoring with 52 points in 32 games while being named to the CSSHL U17 Prep All-Academic Team. This season Koch would record 17 points in 33 U18 Prep games. He would add one point in five playoff games as Edge captured the 2023 CSSHL U18 Prep Western Championship.

Kasey Russell joined Prairie Hockey Academy for the 2022/23 U18 Prep season. In 30 games the Cardston, AB forward would finish second in team scoring with 36 points in 30 games.

Former Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú (CSSHL) netminder Nathan Airey is set to join the University of Minnesota for the 2023/24 season.

Airey joined the CSSHL for the 2018/19 U16 Prep season. In 18 games the Cochrane, AB netminder recorded a 10-8-0 record while posting 1 shutout with a 3.12 GAA, and .897 SV% with Prairie Hockey Academy.

Selected in the fifth round, 110th overall by the Kootenay Ice at the 2018 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft, Airey would join International Hockey Academy for the 2019/20 U18 Prep season. In 29 games he would finish with a 5.50 GAA and .879 SV%.

In 2020/21 Airey would make the jump to the British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) with the Cranbrook Bucks. In three seasons with the team Airey would play 88 games while posting a 2.77 GAA, .912 SV%, and a 44-32-12 record with 6 shutouts. During the 2022/23 season he would be named the BCHL’s Top Goaltender.

The University of Minnesota is an NCAA Division I program located in Minneapolis, MN competing in the Big Ten Conference.

Former Edge School and International Hockey Academy (IHA) student-athlete Michael Neumeier has committed to Colgate University for the 2023/24 season.

Neumeier spent two seasons in the Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú (CSSHL), joining IHA for the 2016/17 U15 season. In 16 games the Kerrobert, SK defenseman recorded 2 goals and 6 assists. He would join the Edge School U15 Prep team the following season, finishing with 9 points in 25 games.

In 2019/20 Neumeier would suit up for the Kindersley Klippers of the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL). In parts of two seasons there he would record 12 points in 41 games.

Neumeier has spent the last two seasons in the North American Hockey League (NAHL) with the Bismarck Bobcats, tallying 66 points in 116 games.

Located in Hamilton, NY, Colgate University is an NCAA Division I program competing in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Max Sullivan has signed a Western Hockey League (WHL) Scholarship and Development Agreement with the Kamloops Blazers, making his debut with the team on March 25, 2023.

Sullivan spent the 2022/23 Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú (CSSHL) season with the International Hockey Academy (IHA) U18 Prep team. In 31 games the Calgary, AB forward tallied 55 points in 31 games, good enough for second on his team and fourth in league scoring.

Originally selected in the fourth round, 87th overall in the 2021 WHL Draft by the Blazers, Sullivan suited up in five Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) games with the Okotoks Oilers during the 2022/23 season.

Eight Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú (CSSHL) student-athletes have signed Letters of Intent with Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) expansion program Niverville Nighthawks.

A three-year CSSHL student-athlete, Dayden Collier joined Edge School for the 2019/20 U16 Prep season, tallying 19 points in 36 games. The Medicine Hat, AB forward would join his hometown South Alberta Hockey Academy (SAHA) for the 2020/21 season, finishing with one point in five U18 Prep games. In 36 U18 Prep games with SAHA this season, Collier had 12 goals and 12 assists.

Taylor Haggerty spent three seasons in the CSSHL with OHA Edmonton, captaining the U18 Prep team during the 2021/22 season. The Sherwood Park, AB forward joined OHA Edmonton in 2019/20, recording 24 points in 36 U16 Prep games. He would spend the next two seasons with the OHA Edmonton U18 Prep team, finishing with 14 points in 21 games.

A defenseman from Dodsland, SK, Ethan Kelly spent three seasons in the CSSHL with Prairie Hockey Academy. Kelly would play for the Prairie U17 Prep team during the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons, tallying 6 points in 31 games. This past season Kelly would lead all Prairie U18 Prep defenseman with 25 points, good enough for third in team scoring.

Forward Jack Lambert has spent the last two seasons in the CSSHL with OHA Edmonton. He joined the program in 2020/21 at the U16 Prep division playing in four games during the COVID-19 shortened season. The Edmonton, AB product would play 27 U18 Prep games this season, tallying 5 goals and 2 assists. Lambert played four Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) games as an affiliate player with the Drayton Valley Thunder this season.

The first ever player to LOI to the Nighthawks, Eric Martin has spent four seasons in the CSSHL. The Edmonton, AB defenseman joined the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) in 2018/19, recording 7 points in 26 games with their U15 Prep team. He would return to NAX in 2019/20, tallying 10 points in 36 U16 Prep games as NAX finished the regular season in first place, before the COVID-19 pandemic ended playoffs. Martin would then join Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (PCHA) for the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons, recording 19 points in 37 U18 Prep games.

Brodie Pearson played three seasons in the CSSHL with RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna. The Steamboat, CO forward spent the 2019/20 season at the U17 Prep level, recording 15 points in 24 games. In 2020/21 Pearson would finish with seven points in nine U17 Prep games, before finishing this past year with 11 points in 24 U18 Prep games.

Carter Spirig spent one season in the CSSHL as a teammate of Martin’s with the NAX U16 Prep team in 2019/20. The St. Albert, AB forward would finish that season with 18 points in 30 games. Spirig was originally drafted in the 8th round, 169th overall by the Winnipeg Ice at the 2019 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft.

Ben Whitford joined his hometown International Hockey Academy (IHA) for the 2021/22 U18 Prep season. In 29 games the Calgary, AB forward would finish second in team scoring with 21 points.

Niverville will be coached by Kelvin Cech, who spent the 2021/22 season behind the West Van Academy U18 Prep bench.

The Cold Lake, AB defenseman would spend the next three years with the RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (formerly Pursuit of Excellence) program, recording 4 points in 66 games split between the U15 Prep, U16 Prep, and U18 Prep levels. Grey would record 1 assist in 30 games with the IHA U18 Prep team this season.

Whitecourt Wolverines forward Tyler Mahan has committed to the Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.) Tigers.

The Calgary, AB native is in his third Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) season with the Whitecourt Wolverines, having recorded a team high 23 goals and 44 points in 38 games. Mahan had 22 points in 57 games his previous 2 AJHL seasons.

Prior to joining the Wolverines, Mahan spent the 2018/19 season with International Hockey Academy (IHA) in the Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú (CSSHL). In 36 U18 Prep games Mahan lead his team in scoring with 45 points.

Located in the town of Henrietta in the Rochester, New York metropolitan area, the R.I.T. Tigers are a NCAA Division I program playing in the Atlantic Hockey Conference (AHA).

Bochek spent two seasons in the Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú (CSSHL) playing for International Hockey Academy (IHA) and the Notre Dame Hounds.

The forward would join the league in 2016/17 with the IHA U15 team, tallying 29 points in 23 games. The following year the Moosomin, SK product would suit up for the Notre Dame U15 Prep team, recording 23 points in 26 CSSHL games.

The Giants would draft Bochek in the 12th round, 254th overall in the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft

The Notre Dame Hounds have added Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) student-athletes Kailer Hulse and Davis Sato for the 2021/22 Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) season.

Hulse joined the CSSHL in 2017/18 suiting up for International Hockey Academy (IHA) at the U17 Prep level. The forward would join the IHA U18 Prep team for the following two seasons, finishing with 15 points in 65 CSSHL games.

A three-year CSSHL student-athlete, Sato spent the 2018/19 season with BWC Academy before joining St. George’s School for the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons. During his time with at the U16 Prep division with BWC, Sato recorded 18 points in 32 regular season games, and an additional 2 points in 5 playoff games. With St. George’s U18 Prep team he would tally 21 points in 37 games. The 6’1 forward heads to Notre Dame from Richmond, BC.

A Modern Approach on Development of Academic, Athletic and Citizenship Skills

Located in Calgary, Alta., the International Hockey Academy (IHA) is a founding member of the Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú, operating out of the Markin MacPhail Centre.

What are some of the things your program does to provide educational support?

Our Educational partner is the National Sports School, which is conveniently located under the same roof as our hockey program. Some of their key features include:

  • A learning environment that uses advanced online technologies to support learning
  • Grades nine to twelve in the academically rigorous Alberta Education Program of Studies.
  • Teacher Advisors for each student-athlete.
  • A Sport Psychologist on staff.
  • Sport Psychology courses.
  • A four-period day with fixed-time classes including embedded tutorial time.
  • Personal Learning Plans for each student-athlete.

How students can access their teachers outside of the regularly scheduled face-to-face class instructional time:

  • Students are able to work with their teachers during every tutorial period.
  • All teachers are available by email and telephone
  • Students can also access instruction in their course through Desire2Learn (an online learning management environment), or through distance packages provided by their teacher.
  • All students have access to instruction 24/7

RESIDENTIAL LIFE

Do you offer a billeting program or a dormitory for non-local student athletes?

We do have a billet program. Most of our student athletes are placed with teammates. If not, we have a core group of families that we have used consistently over the past five years.

What kind of life skills to the student athletes learn by living with billets?

They learn the skills of the new families. One family is a sailing family. One is a rock-climbing family.ÌýOne has a mom and dad that are professional musicians. One family is a farming family.

STUDENT ATHLETE HEALTH

How are injuries and sick student athletes monitored?

Through our Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) and on-site Physiotherapist. Because of our location, we have the G23 Sports Medicine Facility in our building.Ìý With Hockey Canada doctors, one of the leading doctors in concussions and a full physio clinic, our kids have access to some of the best recovery clinicians around. For illnesses, we have a program doctor that can see our players quickly for assessments.

SCHEDULE

What does the daily schedule look like for an International Hockey Academy student athlete?

Starting in early September and continuing until the end of June, our student athletes will train and skate daily, depending on game and travel times. Our teams start their days around 7:30am and will be at Winsport until 4:30pm.Ìý In general, our student athletes will have an on-ice session, off-ice session and fulfill their schooling credentials.

How many games can your teams expect to play?

Between the play in the CSSHL, Championships and tournaments, our teams will play about 50 games each season.

What does the on and off ice training look like?

Each team will have around 120 on-ice development sessions, 100 dryland/multi-sport training sessions, as well as the required time spent in the classroom. The sports schedule is subject to change, based on welfare of kids (fatigue), travel timing, coach’s discretion, and educational requirements.

ÌýWhat is included in the price to attend the International Hockey Academy?

Included in our price is all travel (meals and accommodations), off-ice training fees, equipment (two sets of jerseys and socks, practice jersey and socks, gloves and pant shells, team hockey bag), as well as team issued clothing. Hockey fees for our U18 Prep team is $23,000 and for our U17 Prep team is $20,000. Not included in our pricing is educational fees, individual spending money and billet fees, if required.
