Five 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) alumni have signed professional hockey contracts.

Ethan Edwards, Charlie Elick, Trey Taylor and Matthew Wood have all signed NHL Entry Level Contracts, while Evan Friesen has signed in the ECHL.

Selected in the fourth round, 120th overall at the 2020 NHL Draft by the New Jersey Devils, Edwards has signed a two year contract with the team. The St. Albert, AB defenseman has spent the last four seasons in the NCAA with the University of Michigan, tallying 56 points in 130 games.

Edwards spent two seasons in the CSSHL with the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX), capturing a U16 Prep Championship in 2018. Overall, he would play 63 games split between the NAX U16 Prep and U18 Prep teams, recording 49 points.

Elick has signed with the Columbus Blue Jackets after they selected him in the second round, 36th overall at the 2024 NHL Draft. The Calgary, AB defenseman joined Edge School in 2020/21, playing with their U15 Prep team. In 2021/22 he would tally 25 points in 26 U18 Prep games while being named the CSSHL U18 Prep Top Freshman Award winner.

The Brandon Wheat Kings would select Elick with the third overall pick at the 2021 WHL Draft where he would spend his first two-and-a-half WHL season before joining the Tri-City Americans midway through this year. In 196 career WHL games Elick has 10 goals and 45 assists.

Undrafted to the NHL, Taylor has signed a contract with the Dallas Stars. Taylor spent the 2017/18 season with the Delta Hockey Academy U16 Prep team, posting 12 goals and 16 assists in 35 games.

The Richmond, BC defender would join Clarkson University of the NCAA in 2022/23, playing three seasons with the team. In 110 NCAA games Taylor finished with 16 goals and 38 assists while being named the NCAA (ECAC) Best Defensive Defenseman and a Second Team All-Star in 2023/24.

Woods spent the 2019/20 CSSHL U15 Prep season with the West Van Warriors (now the North Shore Warriors), finishing second in the league in goals (40) and fourth in points (71) in 30 games. At the conclusion of the season the Regina Pats selected Wood in the second round, 41st overall at the 2020 WHL Draft. However, Wood took the NCAA route.

TheLethbridge, AB forward spent two seasons with the University of Connecticut before transferring to the University of Minnesota this season. In 109 NCAA games Wood recorded 44 goals and 57 assists while being named to the NCAA (Hockey East) All-Rookie Team in 2022/23.

Selected in the first round, 15th overall at the 2023 NHL Draft by the Predators, Wood has represented Team Canada on three separate occasions: twice with the U18 Team, and once with the World Juniors Team.

A forward from Winnipeg, MB, Friesen has signed an ECHL Contract with the Utah Grizzlies. Friesen has played two games with the team already, having played one with them last season.

Undrafted to the WHL, Friesen has spent the last four seasons in the top junior hockey league in Western Canada. This season he would captain the Wenatchee Wild, finishing with 61 points in 66 games. In total, Friesen had 146 points in 240 WHL games.

Prior to his time in the WHL, Friesen spent two seasons in the CSSHL with RHA Winnipeg, playing for their U15 Prep and U16 Prep teams. In 66 CSSHL games he would record 14 goals and 20 assists.

Four 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) alumni have been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The 10 team tournament will take place December 26-Jan. 5 in Ottawa, ON. Four CSSHL alumni will represent Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships.

The four CSSHL alumni selected to represent Team Canada are:

  • Carson Bjarnason – Brandon Wheat Kings/WHL (RHA Winnipeg)
  • Gavin McKenna – Medicine Hat Tigers/WHL (RHA Kelowna/South Alberta Hockey Academy)
  • Tanner Molendyk – Saskatoon Blades/WHL (Yale Hockey Academy)
  • Sawyer Mynio – Seattle Thunderbirds/WHL (Yale Hockey Academy)

A first round pick by the Nashville Predators at the 2023 NHL Draft, Molendyk is one of five returning players who represented Canada at the 2024 World Juniors. Bjarnason will represent Team Canada for the third time. The 2023 2nd round NHL Pick by the Philadelphia Flyers won gold at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and Bronze at the 2023 U18 World Championships.

McKenna, who is expected to be the first overall pick at the 2026 NHL Draft, has won gold for Canada at the 2024 IIHF U18 World Championships and the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. This will be the first time Mynio, a Vancouver Canucks 2023 third round pick, represents Team Canada on the international stage.

The 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship begins on Boxing Day with Canada kicking off its tournament schedule against Finland, while the United States will play Germany. The two teams will meet on Dec. 31 to wrap up preliminary-round action. The knock-out round will begin with the quarter-finals on January 2.

The Abbotsford, BC product spent two seasons in the CSSHL with Yale’s U15 Prep team. During the 2016/17 season he would tally 9 points in 30 games. The following campaign Sward finished with 18 points in 26 games, leading to the Spokane Chiefs selecting him in the first round, 17th overall at the 2018 WHL Draft.

Sward joined the Chiefs in 2019/20, playing in 55 games and recording 17 points. The following year he would play in just 11 games but the Nashville Predators would select him in the fifth round, 146th overall at the 2022 NHL Draft.

He would begin the 2022/23 season with the Chiefs, playing eight games with the team before being moved to the Winnipeg Ice. Sward would finish the season with 33 points in 52 games with the Ice, adding 12 more points in 19 playoff games.

This past season Sward had 15 goals and 66 assists in 66 games with the Wenatchee Wild, earning him WHL (US) First All-Star Team honours.

The Moose have assigned Sward to the ECHL with the Norfolk Admirals to begin the 2024/25 season.

Former St. George’s School student-athlete Hiroki Gojsic has signed an NHL Entry Level Contract with the Nashville Predators.

The Langley, BC forward joined St. George’s for the 2020/21 CSSHL U15 Prep season, tallying 10 points in 6 games. The following U18 Prep campaign he would record a team high 51 points in 32 games, leading to the Victoria Royals selecting him in the second round, 23rd overall at the 2021 WHL Draft.

Gojsic spent the 2023/24 WHL season with the Kelowna Rockets tallying 50 points in 68 games. At the conclusion of the season the Predators selected him in the third round, 94th overall at the 2024 WHL Draft.

Former Yale Hockey Academy and current Wenatchee Wild defenseman Graham Sward has been named the October CSSHL WHL Alumni Player of the Month.

Sward currently leads all WHL skaters with 23 assists, while his 28 points in 15 games is tops among all Wenatchee skaters. Sward played 11 games in October, recording at least a point in all of them, with 7 games being multi-point efforts, including his last 5 of the month. In all, he finished October with 4 goals and 16 assists.

The Nashville Predators have signed former Yale Hockey Academy student-athlete Tanner Molendyk to an NHL Entry Level Contract after selecting him in the first round, 24th overall at the 2023 NHL Draft.

Molendyk spent two seasons in the 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) with Yale, joining the program in 2019/20. The Kamloops, BC defender would record 55 points in 27 U15 Prep games that season, a CSSHL defensemen record that still stands. His record setting season would earn him CSSHL U15 Prep Top Defenseman honours. At the conclusion of the season the Saskatoon Blades would select Molendyk in the first round, fifth overall at the 2020 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft.

The following COVID-19 shortened season Molendyk would finish with six points in five U18 Prep games. He would also suit up in 17 WHL games with the Blades, recording 2 assists.

In his first full WHL season in 2021/22 Molendyk would finish with 3 goals and 15 assists in 55 games.

This season Molendyk would record 9 goals and 28 assists in 67 games while having the opportunity to represent Team Canada U18 at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup where he tallied 1 goal and 3 assists in 5 games as Canada brought home a gold medal.
