12 former Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú (CSSHL) student-athletes have been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2024 U17 World Challenge.

The tournament, which is set to take place November 3-9 at Progressive Auto Sales Arena in Sarnia, ON, will see 44 players represent Team Canada White and Team Canada Red.

Among the 44 players selected are 15 from the WHL, 12 of which played in the CSSHL including 2023 and 2024 WHL Draft first overall picks Daxon Rudolph and Landon DuPont. After joining fellow CSSHL alumnus Connor Bedard as the only two players in WHL History to receive Exceptional Status, DuPont is the lone 2009 born player on the Team Canada rosters.

The 12 CSSHL alumni represent six different CSSHL member programs: Okanagan Hockey Academy (3), RHA Kelowna (3), Edge School (2), Northern Alberta Xtreme (2), Delta Hockey Academy, and Pilot Mound Hockey Academy.

Canada Red:

This will be the second time Lin, Preston, L. Ruck, M. Ruck, Rudolph, and Verhoeff represent Team Canada, having previously done so at the 2024 Youth Olympics.

The 2024 U17 World Challenge kicks off on November 3, with Canada White taking on Czechia at 3:30 p.m. ET and Canada Red facing off against Finland at 7:30 p.m. ET. Teams will play two preliminary-round games before the medal round, which concludes on Nov. 9 with the medal games, as well as the fifth-place game. The event will also feature pre-tournament games in Sarnia, Petrolia and Forest on November 1.

The 2023 U17 World Challenge saw 13 CSSHL alumni compete for Team Canada Red and White.

The Utah Grizzlies have signed former Edge School student-athlete Tyson Upper to a contract for the 2024/25 ECHL season.

Upper joined Edge for the 2014/15 U15 season, tallying 10 points in 13 games. The following U15 Prep campaign he would record 16 points in 25 games. The Calgary, AB defender would take a step offensively the next season, finishing with 34 points in 27 U16 Prep games. During the 2017/18 season he would tally 29 points in 33 U18 Prep games with Edge.

Undrafted to the WHL, Upper would join the Prince George Cougars in 2018/19. He would spend three seasons in the WHL with the Cougars, ending his WHL career with 18 goals and 33 assists in 151 games.

After his WHL career he would head to the University of Calgary and play three U SPORTS seasons with the Dinos. In 62 games Upper had 13 goals and 20 assists.

After spending the 2023/24 CSSHL season with BWC Academy, Kyle Obobaifo and Ryan Richter have signed WHL Scholarship and Development Agreements.

A forward from Calgary, AB, Obobaifo joined BWC Academy for the 2023/24 U15 Prep season. In 27 games he would record a team high 20 goals and 38 points. Obobaifo has signed with the Prince Albert Raiders after they selected him in the third round, 54th overall at the 2024 WHL Draft.

Undrafted to the WHL, Richter spent the 2023/24 U17 Prep season with BWC Academy Gold. In 31 games the Smithers, BC defender had 3 goals and 20 assists. Richter, who signed with the Prince George Cougars, will join Delta Hockey Academy for the 2024/25 U18 Prep season.

The Utah Grizzlies have signed former Edge School student-athlete Craig Armstrong for the 2024/25 ECHL season.

Armstrong spent the 2018/19 U18 Prep season with Edge School recording 28 points in 29 games.

Selected in the first round, ninth overall by the Prince George Cougars at the 2018 WHL Draft, the Airdrie, AB forward joined the Cougars for three seasons starting in 2019/20. In 155 games with the Cougars Armstrong had 20 goals and 36 assists.

In 2022/23 he would join the Red Deer Rebels, tallying 11 goals and 23 assists in 65 games.

This season Armstrong joined Chicoutimi Sagueneens in the QMJHL. He would score 17 times and add 22 assists.

Former Edge School student-athlete Terik Parascak has signed his NHL Entry Level contract with the Washington Capitals.

The Capitals took the Prince George Cougars forward 17th overall at the 2024 NHL Draft.

During the 2023/24 WHL season, Parascak led all WHL rookies with 43 goals and 105 points while being named a WHL (BC Division) Second Team All-Star. His 105 points were eighth most among skaters while his 43 goals were ninth.

Prior to his team in the WHL, Parascak spent four seasons in the CSSHL with Edge School. The Lethbridge, AB forward joined Edge for the 2019/20 U15 season, finishing second on his team with 41 points in 29 games. The following U15 Prep COVID-19 shortened season he would tally five points in six games.

In 2021/22 Parascak would lead the CSSHL U16 Prep division with 55 goals and 98 points while being named the CSSHL U16 Prep MVP. The Cougars would select Parascak in the fourth round, 78th overall at the 2021 WHL Draft.

Last season Parascak recorded 34 assists and 66 points in 30 games. He would add 32 goals that season, setting the all-time CSSHL record with a career 119 goals, 9 more than Connor Bedard. His 217 career regular season points sit second most all time, behind Edmonton Oilers prospect and Buffalo Sabres first round NHL Draft pick Matthew Savoie.

Three Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú (CSSHL) student-athletes have signed Western Hockey League (WHL) Scholarship and Development Agreements after being selected at the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

Joaquin Geras played the past two seasons with the Edge School U15 Prep team. The Calgary, AB defender produced 16 points in 30 games in 2022/23, and 28 points in 27 games in 2023/24. He would addd five points in five playoff games as Edge made the finals of the 2024 CSSHL Western Championships. Geras was selected in the second round, 26th overall by the Kamloops Blazers.

Selected in the third round, 47th overall by the Tri-City Americans, Lukasz McIsaac spent the 2022/23 season with the St. George’s U15 team, tallying 20 points in 21 games. This season the Vancouver, BC defenseman recorded 17 points in 26 U15 Prep games.

A forward from Coldstream, BC, Ollie Reid joined RHA Kelowna for the 2021/22 U15 season, tallying 6 points in 27 games. He would suit up for Yale Hockey Academy’s U15 Prep team the following two seasons, including finish fourth in league scoring this season with 52 points in 27 games. The Cougars selected Reid in the fourth round, 88th overall.

Six Â鶹´«Ã½Èë¿Ú (CSSHL) alumni have taken home Canadian Hockey League (CHL) honours after successful seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL).

Gavin McKenna – Medicine Hat Tigers

  • CHL Rookie of the Year Award The CHL Rookie of the Year Award is given out annually to the top rookie in the Canadian Hockey League
    • 34G-63A, 97 PTS, -4 in 61 GP during the 2023-24 season; as a 16-year-old rookie McKenna led the Tigers with 34 goals and 97 points
  • CHL Third Team-All Star Forward
    • 34G-63A, 97 PTS, -4 in 61 GP during the 2023-24 season; alongside Connor Bedard, the 2026 NHL Draft prospect is one of only two 16-year-old skaters in the WHL to record 90-plus points in a single season over the last 25 years
  • CHL All Rookie Team Forward
    • 34G-63A, 97 PTS, -4 in 61 GP during the 2023-24 season; as one of the CHL’s youngest players on an active roster during the 2023-24 season, McKenna registered 16 contests with three or more points, including four points on six occasions and two hat-tricks; his 97 points ranked second among CHL rookie this season

McKenna spent three season in the CSSHL, joining RHA Kelowna in 2020/21. He would play the following season as an underage player in the U18 Prep division, tallying 65 points in 35 games. The Tigers would select the Whitehorse, YT forward first overall at the 2022 WHL Draft. The following season McKenna would play for the South Alberta Hockey Academy U18 Prep team, once again leading the division in assists (38) and points (75), while his 37 goals were also a division best, earning him CSSHL U18 Prep MVP honours.

Cayden Lindstrom – Medicine Hat Tigers

  • CHL Top Prospect Award The CHL Top Draft Prospect Award presented by Kubota Canada is given out every year to the top eligible prospect for the NHL Entry Draft from the Canadian Hockey League. The award was first given in 1991.
    • 27G-19A, 46 PTS, +12 in 32 GP during the 2023-24 season; the Chetwynd, BC forward is expected to be a Top 5-10 selection at the upcoming 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

A third round pick by the Tigers at the 2021 WHL Draft, Lindstrom spent two seasons with Delta Hockey Academy, winning a 2022 CSSHL U17 Prep Western Championship. In 35 CSSHL games at the U15 Prep and U17 Prep level, Lindstrom tallied 70 points.

Zac Funk – Prince George Cougars

  • CHL First Team-All Star Forward
    • 67G-56A, 123 PTS, +56 in 68 GP during the 2023-24 season; the Washington Capitals prospect finished the season as the CHL’s leading goal scorer with 67 goals, making him just the 10th CHL skater since 2000 to top 65 goals in a single season

Funk joined Yale Hockey Academy for the 2017/18 U15 Prep season, producing 52 points in 28 games. The Calgary Hitmen would select him in the second round, 43rd overall at the 2018 WHL Draft.

Harrison Meneghin – Lethbridge Hurricanes 

  • CHL Third Team-All Star Goalie
    • 27-20-5-0 record, 2.59 GAA, .919 SV% & 3 SO in 53 GP during the 2023-24 season; ranked among the WHL leaders in several different categories, including save percentage (.919, second), shutouts (3, T-4th), minutes played (3,040, fourth) and saves (1,483, fifth).

Meneghin spent four season in the CSSHL with Delta Hockey Academy, posting a 33-14-1 record at the U15, U15 Prep and U18 Prep levels.

Luca Cagnoni – Portland Winterhawks

  • CHL Third Team-All Star Defenseman
    • 18G-72A, 90 PTS, +47 in 65 GP during the 2023-24 season; the San Jose Sharks prospect posted the first 90-point season by a WHL defenseman in the last 30 years

Undrafted to the WHL, Cagnoni spent three seasons with BWC Academy, playing in the U15 Prep, U16 Prep and U18 Prep divisions. In 75 total CSSHL games the fourth round NHL Draft Pick recorded 59 points.

Terik Parascak – Prince George Cougars

  • CHL All Rookie Team Forward
    • 43G-62A, 105 PTS, +49 in 68 GP during the 2023-24 season; the 2024 NHL Draft prospect led all CHL rookies during the 2023-24 season in goals (43) and scoring (105); his 105 points are the most by a rookie in the CHL since 2006-07 campaign (Patrick Kane – 145 points & Sam Gagner – 118 points)

Having spent four seasons with Edge School, Parascak is the CSSHL’s All-Time leading goal scorer with 119 goals, while his 217 points are second most all-time. Parascak was selected by Prince George in the fourth round of the 2021 WHL Draft.

Former RHA Winnipeg student-athletes Eric Alarie and Hudson Thornton have signed professional contracts, with Alarie joining his ECHL team for the remainder of the season.

The Winnipeg, MB duo of Alarie and Thornton joined RHA Winnipeg for the 2017/18 U15 Prep season. Alarie tallied a team high 55 points in 30 games, leading to the Moose Jaw Warriors would select the forward in the first round, 22nd overall at the 2018 WHL Draft. Thornton would finish with 29 points in 30 games as the Prince George Cougars selected the defenseman in the second round, 33rd overall at the 2018 WHL Draft.

The following U18 Prep season Thornton and Alarie would finish first and second in team scoring with 47 and 46 points respectively.

Alarie spent five season in the WHL with the Warriors before joining the Seattle Thunderbirds early this season. In 280 WHL games he tallied 79 goals and 108 assists. Alarie has signed an ECHL contract with the Adirondack Thunder, having played six games with two points so far.

Thornton joined Prince George full time for the 2021/22 season. He would spend three seasons with the team including captaining them this year. In 207 total WHL games Thornton has tallied 56 goals and 140 assists. Thornton remains with the Cougars in the middle of their WHL playoffs, but has signed an AHL contract with the Hershey Bears.

The Coldstream, BC forward spent the 2017/18 season with the Yale Hockey Academy U15 Prep team. In 28 games he would finish third in team scoring with 52 points. The Calgary Hitmen would then select him in the second round, 43rd overall at the 2018 WHL Draft.
