Four 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) alumni have been selected to represent Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship.

The 10 team tournament will take place December 26-Jan. 5 in Ottawa, ON. Four CSSHL alumni will represent Team Canada at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championships.

The four CSSHL alumni selected to represent Team Canada are:

  • Carson Bjarnason – Brandon Wheat Kings/WHL (RHA Winnipeg)
  • Gavin McKenna – Medicine Hat Tigers/WHL (RHA Kelowna/South Alberta Hockey Academy)
  • Tanner Molendyk – Saskatoon Blades/WHL (Yale Hockey Academy)
  • Sawyer Mynio – Seattle Thunderbirds/WHL (Yale Hockey Academy)

A first round pick by the Nashville Predators at the 2023 NHL Draft, Molendyk is one of five returning players who represented Canada at the 2024 World Juniors. Bjarnason will represent Team Canada for the third time. The 2023 2nd round NHL Pick by the Philadelphia Flyers won gold at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and Bronze at the 2023 U18 World Championships.

McKenna, who is expected to be the first overall pick at the 2026 NHL Draft, has won gold for Canada at the 2024 IIHF U18 World Championships and the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup. This will be the first time Mynio, a Vancouver Canucks 2023 third round pick, represents Team Canada on the international stage.

The 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship begins on Boxing Day with Canada kicking off its tournament schedule against Finland, while the United States will play Germany. The two teams will meet on Dec. 31 to wrap up preliminary-round action. The knock-out round will begin with the quarter-finals on January 2.

The Buffalo Sabres have signed former CSSHL student-athlete Scott Ratzlaff to an NHL Entry Level Contract.

Ratzalff spent the 2020/21 COVID-19 shortened U16 Prep season with the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX), recording a shutout in his lone game.

Selected in the second round, 43rd overall at the 2020 WHL Draft by the Seattle Thunderbirds the Irma, AB netminder joined Seattle full time 2021/22 season. Ratzlaff is now in his fourth season with Seattle, posting a 67-37-2 record, .909SV%, 2.79GAA and 7 shutouts in WHL 116 games. He was also apart of the Thunderbirds WHL Championship during the 2022/23 campaign.

Internationally, Ratzlaff helped Team Canada win gold at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and was a member of the 2024 Team Canada World Juniors team.

Ratzlaff was selected by the Sabres in the fifth round, 141st overall at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

Former RHA Kelowna student-athlete Tij Iginla has signed his NHL Entry Level Contract with Utah Hockey Club.

Iginla was selected sixth overall by Utah at the 2024 NHL Entry Draft becoming the first player selected in franchise history.

A forward from Lake Country, BC, Iginla聽 joined RHA Kelowna for the 2021/22 U18 Prep season. In 32 games he recorded a team high 26 goals, finishing second in team scoring with 48 points.

Selected ninth overall by the Seattle Thunderbirds at the 2021 WHL Draft, Iginla joined Seattle for the 2022/23 season tallying 18 points in 48 games. He would add an additional point in three playoff games as Seattle were crowned WHL Champions.

That season he would win a silver medal with Team Canada at the U17 World Hockey Challenge, recording seven points in seven games.

Prior to the start of the 2023/24 season Iginla would be traded to the Kelowna Rockets leading to a breakout season of 84 points in 64 games while being named a WHL (BC) First All-Star Team. He would help Canada capture gold at the U18 World Championships with 12 points in 7 games.

Tij is the son of former NHLer and Hockey Hall of Fame member Jarome Iginla.

A pair of BWC Academy defensemen have signed Western Hockey League (WHL) Scholarship and Development Agreements after being selected at the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

Julian Revel and Grayson Tash both joined BWC Academy ahead of the 2022/23 CSSHL U15 season. Revel would tally 20 points in 21 games while Tash would add 19 in 24.

This season Revel tallied 6 goals and 19 assists in 26 U15 Prep games leading to the Saskatoon Blades selecting the Burnaby, BC product in the third round, 66th overall. Revel would be named a CSSHL U15 Prep Second Team All-Star (BC Division).

Tash played in 27 U15 Prep games this season, recording 3 goals and a team high 31 assists. A CSSHL U15 Prep Second Team All-Star (BC Division), Tash was selected in the third round, 64th overall by the Seattle Thunderbirds.

Edge School student-athletes Brock England, Matthew Hilderman and Leif Oaten have signed Western Hockey League (WHL) Scholarship and Development Agreements with their respective WHL teams after being selected at the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft.

A nominees for the U15 Prep Division MVP Award, England was selected in the first round, 11th overall by the Seattle Thunderbirds. The Red Deer, AB forward finished his first season in the CSSHL with 18 goals and 22 assists in 24 games. He added a goal and an assist as an affiliate player for the Edge U18 Prep team during the 2024 Western Championships, helping them earn their second straight title.

After selecting England in the first round, Seattle doubled down on Edge forwards, selecting Hilderman in the second round, 23rd overall. The Cochrane, AB forward recorded a team high 22 goals while adding 18 assists in 23 games.

Oaten was the first goalie selected at the 2024 WHL Prospects Draft as the Lethbridge Hurricanes selected the Calgary, AB netminder in the third round, 58th overall. A CSSHL First Team All-Star (Prairie Division), Oaten finished tied for the league lead with 11 wins while posting a 2.90 GAA and .914 SV%.

Former BWC Academy netminder Thomas Milic has signed an NHL Entry Level Contract with the Winnipeg Jets.

The Jets selected the Coquitlam, BC netminder in the fifth round, 151st overall at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Milic would spend the majority of the 2023/24 season in the AHL with the Manitoba Moose, playing 33 games and finishing with a 2.72GAA and .900SV%.

Milic spent the previous three seasons in the Western Hockey League (WHL) with the Seattle Thunderbirds, posting a 60-23-5 record, 8 shutouts, a 2.35GAA and .917SV% in 91 games. During the 2022/23 season Milic would help Seattle capture a WHL Championship while being named to the WHL (US Division) First All-Star Team, the WHL Playoffs MVP, and WHL Top Goaltender Award winner while leading the WHL with a 2.08GAA and .928SV%. He would help Canada capture a Gold Medal at the 2023 World Juniors.

Prior to his WHL career Milic played three seasons in the CSSHL with BWC Academy. In 2017/18 he would be named the CSSHL U15 Top Goaltender, capturing that award again in 2019/20 in the U18 Prep division. Milic would also lead the U18 Prep division with a .946SV%. After the 2017/18 U15 Prep season he would be selected by the Thunderbirds in the third round, 51st overall at the 2018 WHL Draft.

Former RHA Winnipeg student-athletes Eric Alarie and Hudson Thornton have signed professional contracts, with Alarie joining his ECHL team for the remainder of the season.

The Winnipeg, MB duo of Alarie and Thornton joined RHA Winnipeg for the 2017/18 U15 Prep season. Alarie tallied a team high 55 points in 30 games, leading to the Moose Jaw Warriors would select the forward in the first round, 22nd overall at the 2018 WHL Draft. Thornton would finish with 29 points in 30 games as the Prince George Cougars selected the defenseman in the second round, 33rd overall at the 2018 WHL Draft.

The following U18 Prep season Thornton and Alarie would finish first and second in team scoring with 47 and 46 points respectively.

Alarie spent five season in the WHL with the Warriors before joining the Seattle Thunderbirds early this season. In 280 WHL games he tallied 79 goals and 108 assists. Alarie has signed an ECHL contract with the Adirondack Thunder, having played six games with two points so far.

Thornton joined Prince George full time for the 2021/22 season. He would spend three seasons with the team including captaining them this year. In 207 total WHL games Thornton has tallied 56 goals and 140 assists. Thornton remains with the Cougars in the middle of their WHL playoffs, but has signed an AHL contract with the Hershey Bears.

The CSSHL has announced the nine division MVP’s of their respective Western and Eastern Championships.

U15: Bronsyn Mouille- Northern Alberta Xtreme

NAX cruised to their second straight U15 Western Championship and was led offensively by Mouille and his 21 points, 6 more than the next highest. The Peace River, AB forward had 62 points in 26 regular season games.

U15 Jaggar John – Northern Alberta Xtreme

John finished the Western Championships with a record 19 points in 5 games, surpassing Kyle Crnkovic’s record of 18. John would lead NAX to their second straight U15 Prep Western Championship with four assists and the overtime winner in a 6-5 win over Edge School. The Fort McMurray, AB forward recored 38 points in 27 regular season games.

U17 Prep Tier I: Brendan Rudolph – Calgary International Hockey Academy

Rudolph finished fourth in Championships scoring but his hat-trick and one assist in the finals propelled CIHA to a 5-4 OT win over Prairie Hockey Academy as CIHA captured their first ever CSSHL Western Championship. The Seattle Thunderbirds 2023 WHL Draft pick finished the regular season with a team high 59 points in 31 games.

U17 Prep Tier II: Lucas Benn – St. George’s School

A seventh round selection by the Kamloops Blazers at the 2023 WHL Draft, Benn tallied 3 goals and 8 assists in 5 playoff games, including 2 assists in a 3-2 overtime win over SAHA in the finals. He would finish the regular season with 32 points in 29 games.

U17 Prep Tier III: Mark Lee – BWC Academy White

Lee posted 13 points in 5 playoff games including a goal and three assists in the Championship Finals to lead BWC Academy White to a 6-3 win over Shawnigan Lake. The Busan, South Korea forward finished the regular season with 24 goals and 16 assists in 26 games.

U18 Prep: Landon DuPont – Edge School

With 16 points in 5 games the Calgary, AB underage defenseman tied the U18 Prep Western Championships record set by Arizona Coyotes forward Dylan Guenther. He recorded a division best 11 assists, including 1 in the Championship Final as Edge defeated NAX 3-2 in overtime to secure back-to-back championships. DuPont tallied 62 points in 30 regular season games, a new record for defensemen in the U18 Prep division.

Female U18 Prep: Chloe Primerano – RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna

The University of Minnesota commit set Female U18 Prep Western Championship records with 15 assists and 20 points in 5 games as RHA Kelowna earned their third straight championship. During the regular season the Vancouver, BC defenseman led all skaters with 35 goals, 54 assists and 89 points, all Female U18 Prep single season records.

Eastern U17: Dominic Schnarr – Bishop’s College School

Schnarr recorded nine points in five Eastern Championship games including a hat-trick and an assist in the Finals to lift Bishop’s College to their first ever CSSHL Championship. The Woodstock, NB forward tallied nine points in eight regular season games.

Eastern U18: Oliver Kiraly – Ontario Hockey Academy Prep

Kiraly posted a 3-0-0 record with a 2.75 GAA and .898 SV% to lead OHA Prep to a 6-2 win in the Eastern Championship Finals. He would make 41 saves in the finals while scoring the second goalie goal in CSSHL history, and the first in the Eastern Division. The Budapest, Hungary netminder finished the regular season with a 10-1-1 record, 2.47 GAA and .920SV%.

Former Yale Hockey Academy student-athletes Parker Bell and Sawyer Mynio have signed NHL Entry Level Contracts.

Bell spent the 2017/18 U15 Prep season in the CSSHL with the Yale U15 Prep team, In 20 games the Estevan, SK forward recorded 3 goals and 7 assists leading to the Tri-City Americans selecting him in the fifth round, 102nd overall at the 2018 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft.

In 2019/20 Bell would join Tri-City, ultimately spending four seasons with the team, In 180 WHL games Bell tallied 44 goals and 76 assists. The Calgary Flames would select Bell in the fifth round, 155th overall at the 2022 NHL Draft.

A defenseman from Kamloops, BC, Mynio posted 23 points in 23 U15 Prep games during the 2019/20 CSSHL season. The Seattle Thunderbirds would go on to select him in the third round, 63rd overall at the 2020 WHL Draft.

Mynio has spent the last two seasons in the WHL with Seattle, recording 42 points ion 115 games while helping the team capture a 2022 WHL Championship. The Vancouver Canucks selected Mynio in the third round, 89th overall at the 2023 NHL Draft.

At the conclusion of the season the Thunderbirds would select Rudolph in the seventh round, 153rd overall at the 2023 WHL Draft.

Rudolph will spend the 2023/24 CSSHL season with the Calgary International Hockey Academy U17 Prep team.
