Former Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX) student-athlete Brett Hyland has signed an AHL contract with the Hershey Bears.

Hyland recently wrapped up his fifth and final season in the WHL with the Brandon Wheat Kings. After making his WHL debut in 2019/20, Hyland recorded 145 points in 195 WHL games.

The Edmonton, AB forward spent the 2017/18 season with the NAX U15 Prep team tallying 35 points in 17 games. The Wheat Kings would select him in the second round, 24th overall at the 2018 WHL Draft.

Hyland was originally selected by the Washington Capitals at the 2023 NHL Entry Draft in the seventh round, 200th overall.

Former Edge School student-athlete Terik Parascak has signed his NHL Entry Level contract with the Washington Capitals.

The Capitals took the Prince George Cougars forward 17th overall at the 2024 NHL Draft.

During the 2023/24 WHL season, Parascak led all WHL rookies with 43 goals and 105 points while being named a WHL (BC Division) Second Team All-Star. His 105 points were eighth most among skaters while his 43 goals were ninth.

Prior to his team in the WHL, Parascak spent four seasons in the CSSHL with Edge School. The Lethbridge, AB forward joined Edge for the 2019/20 U15 season, finishing second on his team with 41 points in 29 games. The following U15 Prep COVID-19 shortened season he would tally five points in six games.

In 2021/22 Parascak would lead the CSSHL U16 Prep division with 55 goals and 98 points while being named the CSSHL U16 Prep MVP. The Cougars would select Parascak in the fourth round, 78th overall at the 2021 WHL Draft.

Last season Parascak recorded 34 assists and 66 points in 30 games. He would add 32 goals that season, setting the all-time CSSHL record with a career 119 goals, 9 more than Connor Bedard. His 217 career regular season points sit second most all time, behind Edmonton Oilers prospect and Buffalo Sabres first round NHL Draft pick Matthew Savoie.

Former CSSHL and current Prince George Cougars forward Zac Funk has been named the March CSSHL WHL Alumni Player of the Month.

Funk played 10 games in March, finishing with 11 goals and 13 assists for 24 points. He would finish the regular season with a WHL best 67 goals while finishing second with 123 points.

The Coldstream, BC forward spent the 2017/18 season with the Yale Hockey Academy U15 Prep team. In 28 games he would finish third in team scoring with 52 points. The Calgary Hitmen would then select him in the second round, 43rd overall at the 2018 WHL Draft.

Funk would play two and a half seasons with the Hitmen, tallying 78 points in 117 games. He would join the Cougars midway through the 2022/23 season, finishing with 26 points in 31 games.

After going undrafted to the NHL, Funk would sign an NHL Entry Level Contract with the Washington Capitals on March 1st.

Former St. George’s School and current Kelowna Rockets forward Andrew Cristall has been named the December CSSHL WHL Alumni Player of the Month.

In 10 games in December Cristall tallied 7 goals and 16 assists for 23 points, putting an exclamation mark on 2023 with a 3 goal, 2 assist effort against the Calgary Hitmen on December 30. This season Cristall sits fourth in WHL scoring with 60 points in just 29 games.

Cristall spent three seasons in the CSSHL with St. George’s, joining the Vancouver, BC program in 2018/19. In 30 U15 Prep games that season he would tally 25 goals and 27 assists, finishing fourth in team scoring with 52 points. The following U15 Prep season Cristall would lead his team with 43 goals, 37 assists, and 80 points in 27 games. His 43 goals were tops amongst all U15 Prep skaters while his 80 points trailed only future Buffalo Sabres forward Zach Benson (86). At the conclusion of the season the Rockets would select Cristall with the eighth overall pick at the 2020 WHL Draft.

The Vancouver, BC forward would split the 2020/21 COVID-19 shortened season with the Rockets and St. George’s U18 Prep team. In 4 U18 Prep games he would tally 4 points, while adding 5 points in 14 WHL games. In 2021/22 Cristall would finish third in team scoring with 69 points in 61 games.

During the 2022/23 season Cristall represented Team Canada at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, finishing with six points in five games as Canada captured a gold medal. That season he would lead the Rockets with 95 points in 54 games, putting him sixth in WHL scoring. The Washington Capitals would go on to select Cristall in the second round, 40th overall at the 2023 NHL Draft.

His 43 goals and 2.96 points per game average were both division best’s that season. At the conclusion of the season the Kelowna Rockets would select the Vancouver, BC forward eighth overall at the 2020 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft.

During the 2020/21 season Cristall would split the year with the St. George’s U18 Prep team and the Rockets. He would tally 4 points in 4 CSSHL games while adding 5 points in 14 WHL games.

Cristall would record 69 points in 61 WHL games during the 2021/22 season, good enough for third in team scoring. This season Cristall would lead his team and finish sixth in league scoring with 95 points in 54 games. He would also suit-up for Team Canada U18 at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup, finishing with six points in five games as Canada captured a gold medal.

The Capitals selected Cristall in the second round, 40th overall at the 2023 NHL Draft.
