Four CSSHL Alumni Pick Up BCHL Pod Awards

Four Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) alumni have been named British Columbia Hockey League (BCHL) Pod award winners.

Christian Fitzgerald and Keeton Oakley both picked up BCHL Coquitlam Pod Awards, while James Porter Jr and Noah Serdachny won BCHL Vernon Pod honours.

The winner of the Coquitlam Pod MVP and Top Scorer awards, Fitzgerald played for Delta Hockey Academy for four seasons, winning a U15 CSSHL League Championship in 2015/16. In 122 games split between the U15, U15 Prep, U16 Prep and U18 Prep divisions, Fitzgerald would record 83 points. He would join the Surrey Eagles in 2019/20 for his rookie campaign and explode offensively during the 2020/21 season with 33 points in 19 games, leading the BCHL with 20 assists. Fitzgerald is committed to Minnesota State University (Mankato) for the 2021/22 season.

With 20 points in 20 games Oakley won Coquitlam Pod Top Rookie, leading all Coquitlam Pod rookies while finishing second in team scoring. The Coquitlam Express forward played for Yale Hockey Academy for two seasons. He would tally 19 points in 31 games in during the 2017/18 campaign with the Yale U16 Prep team, followed by 32 points in 38 games with their U18 Prep team.

Porter Jr spent three CSSHL seasons with Edge School, playing for them from 2014-2017. He would play 12 games at the U15 Prep level posting a 2.36 goals against average (GAA), and a .939 save percentage, and was selected in the seventh-round of the 2015 Western Hockey League (WHL) Bantam Draft by the Kelowna Rockets. He would play another 14 games at the U16 Prep level, before leading the U18 Prep division with a 1.79 GAA and leading the team to a U18 Prep CSSHL Championship. Porter Jr would make the jump to the WHL the following year, spending two seasons with the Rockets. He would join the Vipers for the 2019/20 season and this year went 9-3-2, leading the Vernon Pod in save percentage (.918), GAA (2.38) and shutouts (2), winning the Top Goaltender Award. Porter Jr is committed to MacEwan University in Edmonton, AB for the 2021/22 season.

Rink Hockey Academy Winnipeg alum Noah Serdachny won Vernon Pod Top Rookie honours after finishing fourth among all BCHL Rookies, and first in his Pod, with 24 points. In 106 CSSHL games at the U15 Prep, U16 Prep, and U18 Prep levels, Serdachny finished with 146 points, plus an additional 20 points in 11 playoff games. Serdachny was selected in tenth round of the 2019 in the USHL Futures Draft by the Fargo Force.
