Six CSSHL Alumni Named to Hlinka Gretzky Cup Roster

Six 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) alumni have been named to the Team Canada roster for the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup.

Charlie Elick, Jordan Gavin, Ollie Josephson, Cayden Lindstrom, Ryder Ritchie and Carson Wetsch were all selected to represent Team Canada at this years tournament.

A defenseman from Calgary, AB, Elick spent the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons with Edge School, capturing the 2022 CSSHL U18 Prep Division Top Defenseman Award. The Brandon Wheat Kings selected Elick in the first round, third overall at the 2021 Western Hockey League (WHL) Draft.

Gavin played three seasons in the CSSHL including the 2019/20 and 2021/22 seasons with Delta Hockey Academy, and the 2020/21 season with St. George’s School. Gavin would capture the 2022 CSSHL U17 Prep Western Championship with Delta while leading the league in goals (46). The Tri-City Americans selected him second overall at the 2021 WHL Draft.

The fifth overall selection by the Red Deer Rebels at the 2021 WHL Draft, Josephson played two seasons in the CSSHL with the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy U15 Prep team. In 31 games the Victoria, BC forward finished with 42 points.

Lindstrom spent the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons with Delta and won a 2022 CSSHL U17 Prep Western Championship alongside Gavin. The Chetwynd, BC forward was a third round selection by the Medicine Hat Tigers at the 2021 WHL Draft.

The 2022-23 WHL Rookie of the Year Award Winner, Ritchie was drafted in the first round, 14th overall by the Prince Albert Raiders at the 2021 WHL Draft. Prior to his WHL career he spent three seasons in the CSSHL with Pursuit of Excellence/RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna.

A forward from North Vancouver, BC, Wetsch played three seasons in the CSSHL, joining West Van Academy for the 2019/20 season. He would spend the 2020/21 and 2021/22 seasons with BWC Academy, capturing a 2022 CSSHL U18 Prep Western Championship. Wetsch was selected in the first round, 12th overall at the 2021 WHL Draft by the Calgary Hitmen.

The 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup will take place July 31 to August 5, 2023 in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
