The Edge School for Athletes, located in Calgary, Alta. has announced that Micki DuPont, a former professional hockey player with 19 years of playing experience, will be taking over the U15 team as head coach.聽

During his career, DuPont played in over 1,200 games in North American and European hockey leagues 鈥 representing Team Canada on 13 different occasions, including donning the red and white in the Spengler Cup Tournament six times. He brings championship pedigree to Edge, having won a Calder Cup Championship with the Saint John Flames in 2001, and winning two Deutsche Eishockey League (DEL) Championships with Eisbaren Berlin in 2005 and 2006.

鈥淚鈥檓 really excited for the opportunity to join the Edge family and work with their student-athletes,鈥 says DuPont.

Since wrapping up his playing career, DuPont has been coaching and working in skill development and is the owner of DuPoint Hockey Development. His actions also clearly demonstrate the importance he places on building character, a key component of the Edge philosophy. In 2001-02 with Saint John, DuPont was named Humanitarian of the Year for his work with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, and with local hospitals and schools. He also served as team captain with four different teams, showing his ability to lead and to uphold a positive team culture.聽

鈥淲e are thrilled to have Micki join our hockey program,鈥 says Director of Programming, Chris Chisamore. 鈥淲e feel that his knowledge and experience with the game, as well as his leadership skills both on and off the ice, fit very well with our school pillars of academics, athletics and character. We believe that his addition to the Bantam program working with U15 Prep coach Jeff Shantz will provide all Edge Bantam student-athletes a development opportunity which will be second to none.鈥

Westlake Hockey at Bourget College is pleased to announce Brandon Reid (Kirkland, QC) as Head Coach and Head of European Scouting for the 2020-2021 season. Long-time friends of program directors, Matthew Lombardi and Carl Michaelson, Brandon joins the Volts program with the true ambition of building a long-term culture of excellence.

Brandon comes to Bourget having completed a very successful Professional European coaching campaign, which included stops in Denmark and Germany.聽 In Denmark, Brandon served as head coach and director of player development for Vojens of the Division 1 Professional league and the U20 program. As a first year coach, Reid had a successful season bringing both teams to highest rankings in team history, including a first bronze medal for the U20 team.

At the start of the 2015/2016 season, Reid was invited to be assistant coach at the Canadian National Sledge Hockey development camp. After impressing staff and building great rapport with players, Reid was invited back to assist at the team’s selection camp. Brandon stayed on as assistant coach for the remainder of the 15/16 season, helping lead the team to one gold and two silver medals at various international tournaments.

In 2016, he was appointed as head coach of the Aalborg Pirates of the Metal Ligaen, Denmark’s top league. After quickly leading the team to first place, winning the first eight regular season games, Reid was re-signed by the Pirates for an additional two seasons. Reid and the Pirates impressively held onto first place throughout that entire season. Reid then continued his success with Aalborg in 2017-2018, leading the team to their first trophy in club history, winning the in-season Final Four Pokal tournament, and qualifying the Pirates for the Continental Cup in 2018-2019. Under Reid’s guidance, Aalborg went on to win its first Danish national championship since 1981 and the national cup competition in the 2017-18 season. He was also named Coach of the Year in Denmark that season.

In May of 2018, he was named head coach of German DEL side Krefeld Pinguine, where he spent parts of the next two seasons.

A Vancouver Canucks draft pick, in the 2000 NHL draft, Brandon was taken with the teams 7th pick. Brandon was a born on-ice talent.聽 From the onset of his playing career, at a very young age, he was targeted as a top prospect, and that he was.聽 His illustrious playing career had him putting up top statistical numbers from Midget AAA, to the QMJHL, Team Canada World Juniors, capturing two bronze medals, and eventually into the professional ranks, where he played in the NHL, AHL, and numerous top European clubs, including seasons in the DEL, NLA, and KHL.聽 Brandon amassed many personal and team accolades along the way before eventually retiring in 2014.
