The Edge School for Athletes, located in Calgary, Alta. has announced that Micki DuPont, a former professional hockey player with 19 years of playing experience, will be taking over the U15 team as head coach.Μύ
During his career, DuPont played in over 1,200 games in North American and European hockey leagues β representing Team Canada on 13 different occasions, including donning the red and white in the Spengler Cup Tournament six times. He brings championship pedigree to Edge, having won a Calder Cup Championship with the Saint John Flames in 2001, and winning two Deutsche Eishockey League (DEL) Championships with Eisbaren Berlin in 2005 and 2006.
βIβm really excited for the opportunity to join the Edge family and work with their student-athletes,β says DuPont.
Since wrapping up his playing career, DuPont has been coaching and working in skill development and is the owner of DuPoint Hockey Development. His actions also clearly demonstrate the importance he places on building character, a key component of the Edge philosophy. In 2001-02 with Saint John, DuPont was named Humanitarian of the Year for his work with the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, and with local hospitals and schools. He also served as team captain with four different teams, showing his ability to lead and to uphold a positive team culture.Μύ
βWe are thrilled to have Micki join our hockey program,β says Director of Programming, Chris Chisamore. βWe feel that his knowledge and experience with the game, as well as his leadership skills both on and off the ice, fit very well with our school pillars of academics, athletics and character. We believe that his addition to the Bantam program working with U15 Prep coach Jeff Shantz will provide all Edge Bantam student-athletes a development opportunity which will be second to none.β
