In their first season in the 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) Balmoral Hall School has captured the 2025 CSSHL Female U18 Prep Division II Western Championship.
Balmoral (Winnipeg, MB) came into the Division II Championships as the number one seed and that’s how they would finish in the round robin after going 2-0-0 and earning a bye straight to the semi-finals. They would defeat the Northern Alberta Xtreme (Devon, AB) 5-1 to earn a spot in the finals.
After coming into the Division II Championships as the five seed, Delta Hockey Academy Black (Delta, BC) went 1-0-1 in the round robin to finish third in pool play. They would beat Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (Pilot Mound, MB) 1-0 in overtime in the quarter-finals before besting Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (Penticton, BC) 4-3 in OT in the semi’s.
The Championship game would start with Balmoral captain Makenna Williment (1G, 1A) opening the scoring 8:13 in with her sixth of the playoffs. Balmoral would double their lead 34 seconds later as Maddie Kaiser (1G, 2A) sprung Madeline McKay (1G, 1A) for a breakaway and McKay made no mistake, beating Nicole Flescher (36/39) five-hole. Maddie Kaiser would extend the lead early in the second period as Balmoral had total control heading into the final frame.
It looked as though Balmoral would coast to victory until Mira Morgan got Delta Black on the board with 2:15 remaining. Abigail Jung would go bar down on Lauren Cherkas (29/31) 1:12 later as the three goal cushion quickly evaporated. Ultimately, Delta Black was unable to generate any zone time, let alone a tying goal, in the final minute as Balmoral held on for the 3-2 win.
