Lower Canada College (1) vs Selwyn House School (4) East U17 Championships Semi-Final聽

A tight first period saw Selwyn House come out ahead 1-0 after Julian Harroch (2G, 2A) scored his fifth goal of the Championships with 6:36 remaining in the period. Yulen Billy (2G) increased the Selwyn lead midway through the second period as he scored two goals in 57 seconds. Lower Canada would push in the third period and finally breakthrough late as David Fellen beat Nicolas Capolicchio (27/28) with 55 seconds remaining. But Harroch would sink an empty netter with 18 seconds left on the clock to secure the victory and send Selwyn to the U17 East Final in their first year in the CSSHL.聽

Ulysse Academie (2) vs Bourget College (3) East U18 Championships Semi-Final

William Sasseville gave Bourget a 1-0 lead five minutes in, scoring his third goal of the Championships. Mathys Morrissette (1G, 1A) doubled the lead in the dying seconds of the period, grabbing a rebound and burying it past Virgil Sausset (27/30). Samy Taher extended the Bourget advantage midway through the second as his team looked to run away with their semi-final matchup. Ulysse would find life in the third as Cedrick Fortin scored on the power play 3:26 into the period to get his team on the board. Defenseman Simon Fournier cut the deficit in half with 8:48 remaining as Ulysse continued to climb their way back into the game. However, Bourget would ultimately hold on as Alexandro Montoya (25/27) finished with 25 saves to send his team to the U18 Eastern Championship Finals.聽

Bishop’s College School (1) vs Stanstead College (2) East U17 Championships Semi-Final

Following an even first frame which saw both teams shoot 10-shots a piece, no one was able to find an answer past Gabriel Poitras (28/29) or Dax Doiron (31/33). It wasn鈥檛 until Bishop鈥檚 College received a powerplay in the second where we would find our first goal. Defenseman Nate Ostridge would wire home a wrister from the point, beating Poitras top corner to give Bishop鈥檚 the initial lead. Bishop鈥檚 would carry this lead into the second but Stanstead came out swinging early. Captain Emanuel Ganz would make a power move to the net before sliding home the Spartans鈥 first of the afternoon, tying this match up with loads of time remaining. Fast forward to the halfway point of the third and Alexis Lavoie would rifle home a snapshot from the right corner, beating Doiron top right for Stanstead鈥檚 first lead of the semi-finals. Stanstead would ride this lead to victory. Overtime seemed like it was coming but a huge stop from Poitras in the final minute on a cross-crease attempt stamped Stanstead鈥檚 ticket to the Eastern U17 Finals.

Ontario Hockey Academy (2/OT) vs Bishop’s College School (1) East U18 Championships Semi-Final

Scoring came as a luxury in the Eastern U18 semi-final between OHA and Bishop鈥檚 College, a rematch of last year鈥檚 finals which saw OHA take home the hardware. We wouldn鈥檛 see our first goal until the third where Tomas Sedlacik caught Oliver Kiraly (28/29) off guard with a knuckler, squeaking past the pads of the Hungarian goaltender to give Bishop鈥檚 the initial lead. OHA would keep their heads up after the tough goal and would strike on a powerplay soon after as Sebastian Erkenbolling deflected home a rising wrister from the point. This was enough to force overtime which would see its fair share of action. Mathis-Cael Aurelius would be given a penalty shot after being hauled down on a prior breakaway. However, the puck would barely slip off the blade of Aurelius before attempting to go backhand, keeping Bishop鈥檚 hopes alive. OHA wouldn鈥檛 lose focus after missing out on a glorious chance, keeping the pressure coming. Eventually, Oliver Lacko would build up speed in the neutral zone before dicing through three Bishop鈥檚 defenders and slipping past the backhand that got away from them earlier. OHA proceeds to their second consecutive Eastern U18 Finals where they will face the highly coveted Bourget College.

Riko Salutskij and Tom Boudet would each nab powerplay goals to open the scoring for their respective team, but a late goal from Carter Cooling gave King鈥檚 Edgehill the lead through twenty. Anthony Macaluso (2G) would bury another powerplay goal for OHO to even things up just 45-seconds into play. However, King鈥檚 Edgehill stormed back with two goals off the sticks of Liam Befus and Josh Fleury to close out the second. OHO would apply the pressure in the third resulting in Macaluso鈥檚 second of the morning, but that was all they were able to get past Keaton Pardy (32/35). Pardy would stop 10/11 shots in the final frame, backing King鈥檚 Edgehill to a consolation win to close out their inaugural 2024-25 campaign in the CSSHL.聽

Ontario Hockey Academy (7) vs Fort Erie International Academy (3) East U18 Championships Quarter-Final

OHA unleashed their offensive prowess in their quarter-final matchup with Fort Erie, opening the scoring with two in the first and adding another two early in the second to establish a 4-0 lead. Riley Cave (1G, 1A) would get FEIA on the board shortly after OHA鈥檚 fourth, trying to spark some life in his team heading forward. Mathis-Cael Aurelius (1G, 2A) would restore OHA鈥檚 four goal advantage in the latter stages of the middle frame but Duncan Block would immediately respond for Fort Erie, giving them some momentum heading into the third. Brett Krtanjek would capitalise early in the third for Fort Erie, cutting their deficit to two. However, OHA would find their groove again as Deveraux Griffin (1G, 1A) extended their lead back to three. Quebec Remparts draft pick, Jeremy St. Louis would put the icing on the cake with one final goal, sending OHA to the semi-finals of the Eastern U18 division.聽

Kuper Academy (4) vs Bishop’s College School (5) East U17 Championships Quarter-Final

Jan Vladar鈥檚 two-goal game helped Bishop鈥檚 College School get a 5-4 win in a back-and-forth quarter-final matchup against Kuper Academy. Vladar (2G) opened the scoring for Bishop鈥檚 College on a wraparound attempt 6:11 into the game. Marc-Antoine Larochelle (1G, 1A) doubled Bishop鈥檚 College lead a few minutes later, putting in his own rebound. Kuper wouldn鈥檛 be fazed after erasing a two-goal deficit in their win yesterday. Luca De Pastena (1G, 1A) cut Kuper鈥檚 deficit in half beating Tyler Fuicelli (26/30) from in tight with just under six minutes left in the first period. Early in the second, Kuper鈥檚 Kareem Baig-Mirza levelled the game up with a breakaway goal. Kuper took their first lead of the contest five minutes later when Luca Guadagnino scored on a spinning backhand. Vladar responded with a power play goal for Bishop鈥檚 College, taking advantage of some good puck movement and burying it over the glove of Kuper鈥檚 netminder Donato Padula (27/32). Maverik Legault kept the good times rolling on the man advantage, tipping in a Masanori Black point shot to restore Bishop鈥檚 College lead. In the last minutes of the middle frame, a shot from the blueline dropped to Larochelle who slid the puck over to a wide-open Samuel Boutet to fire into a wide-open net. Kuper would need another third period comeback to keep their season alive. Jiayi Liu brought Kuper within one with a slap shot on the power play with 2:29 left. Bishop鈥檚 College defence shut down Kuper鈥檚 offensive attack in the final minutes to preserve the win. Brandon Fuicelli (2A) and Bastien Michaud (2A) each had two assists for Bishop鈥檚 College. The top two seeds will battle in the second U17 semi-final tomorrow afternoon when Bishop鈥檚 College takes on Stanstead College.聽

Mount Academy (2) vs CIH Academy (6) East U17 Championships Consolation

CIH Academy got offence from all over their lineup in a 6-2 victory over Mount Academy in the U17 consolation game. A few minutes later, Drake Bosum tacked on another goal for CIH Academy on the power play. Jace Hynes (1G, 1A) got one back for Mount with just under six minutes left in the period. CIH Academy quickly restored their three-goal lead with a goal from Marcus Bradley, sending them into the room with a 4-1 lead. Luca Chiarizia鈥檚 (1G, 1A) fourth goal of the Eastern Championships for CIH Academy was the lone goal of the second period. Harper Leard scored for Mount early in the third to make it a 5-2 game. Once again, CIH Academy would reply quickly with Noah Panetta (4A) setting up a Tristyn Bowden marker less than two minutes later. Anri Ishigaki (2A) and Ilia Kuleshov (2A) each had a pair of helpers for CIH Academy. Justin Sosa (25/27) turned aside 25 of the 27 shots he faced in CIH Academy鈥檚 win. King Heights Academy (0) vs Ulysse Academie (5) East U18 Championships Quarter-Final

Ulysse Academie鈥檚 defenceman stepped up, scoring three times in a dominant 5-0 win over King Heights Academy to advance to the U18 semi-finals. Arnaud Roberge (1G, 1A) started the scoring, wiring a shot over the glove of King Heights netminder Cole Minthorn (35/40) to give Ulysse the lead. Minthorn held King Heights in the game despite being outshot 11-3 in the opening frame. Midway through the second, David Allaire鈥檚 centering feed took a deflection and hopped over the shoulder of Minthorn to double Ulysse鈥檚 advantage. Their special teams shone after that, potting two power play goals to make it a 4-0 game. First, it was Yanni Roy (1G, 1A) letting a shot go from near the faceoff circle that found its way through traffic. Then, Lambert snuck in a wrist shot on the glove side with 15 seconds left. Zack Bernique (1G, 1A) closed out Ulysse鈥檚 victory, scoring the lone goal of the third period on a tip that trickled over the line. Virgil Sausset (13/13) recorded the shutout, stopping all 13 shots sent his way in Ulysse鈥檚 net. Sausset has allowed one goal through three games in the playoffs. Ulysse Academie will go up against Bourget College in the first U18 semi-final tomorrow.聽

Fort Erie International Academy (3) vs Lower Canada College (5) East U17 Championships Quarter-Final

Drummondville Voltigeurs prospect Matthew D鈥橴rso (1G, 2A) got the ball rolling early for Lower Canada College. However, Christophe Gagne (2G) would score a filthy goal after beating a defender 1-on-1 to put FEIA back in the contest. The scoring would slow down for the next period and a bit as Efstratios Couvas (29/32) and Demitry Gikis (29/33) were both dialed in between the pipes. It wasn鈥檛 until the late stages of the second where Harry Miller would bang home a rebound to restore the lead for LCC. The flood gates would open in the third as LCC improved their lead just over a minute in thanks to Eli Cohen. Nicolas Dermer would deflect home D鈥橴rso鈥檚 shot later in the frame to extend LCC鈥檚 lead to three. Gagne would score another impressive solo effort to swing some momentum in FEIA鈥檚 favour. However, D鈥橴rso would bury the empty netter to seal the deal for LCC and clinch them a spot in the semi-finals on Saturday. Couvas made 29 stops in the win.

CIH Academy (4) vs Bourget College (8) East U18 Championships Quarter-Final

Mathys Morrissette鈥檚 four-point game helped Bourget College move on to the U18 semi-finals with an 8-4 win over CIH Academy. Maxemile Richard and Morrissette (2G, 2A) both beat him on that side in the first ten minutes to give Bourget a 2-0 lead. With just over five minutes left in the period, Alex Thompson (2G) cut CIH Academy鈥檚 deficit in half, putting home a rebound. Bourget responded quickly with Xavier Landriault (1G, 1A) converting on a rebound chance. 44 seconds later, Morrissette worked his magic again, finding William Sasseville (2G) for a back-door tap-in on the power play to make it 4-1. Kiefer Pion-Robin (3A) played a big part in Bourget鈥檚 first period offensive attack, recording three assists. In the middle frame, Sasseville found the back of the net for the second time with a quick catch and release. Elliot Guevin stretched Bourget鈥檚 lead to 6-1 with his second goal of the Eastern Championships. CIH Academy seemed down and out but they would show some fight. With 20 seconds left in the period, Martin turned aside Victor Morrissette-Richer on a Bourget penalty shot and that seemed to spark CIH Academy. Alexander Mark beat the buzzer with a shot through the five hole of Bourget netminder Maxime Lavoie (26/30). CIH Academy kept pushing in the third period. Five minutes into the frame, Tucker Clare redirected a Nikita Marinin (2A) pass past Lavoie to make it a 6-3 game. A few minutes later, Marinin found Thompson trailing the play and he buried it to cut the deficit to two. Bourget鈥檚 Elie Robert (1G, 1A) would put an end to CIH Academy鈥檚 comeback bid with 6:30 left in the game, chipping in his own rebound from a sharp angle. Morrissette capped off Bourget鈥檚 quarter-final victory with an empty-net goal. Bourget College will face Ulysse Academie in the U18 semi-finals tomorrow.聽

Ontario Hockey Academy (1) vs Selwyn House School (6) East U17 Championships Quarter-Final

Six different goal scorers helped Selwyn House School beat Ontario Hockey Academy 6-1 in the U17 quarter-finals. Selwyn House鈥檚 first goal came from an unlikely source. Jake Holman (1G, 1A), who scored just two goals in the regular season, slid in a rebound to put Selwyn House on top 5:25 into the game. Gianluca Velenosi doubled Selwyn House鈥檚 lead seven minutes later, snapping a powerful wrist shot into the top corner. Selwyn House pulled away with a four-goal second period. Pasquale Presti (1G, 2A) made it a 3-0 game with a goal on the rush. Just over two minutes later, Julian Harroch (1G, 1A) extended Selwyn鈥檚 lead with his fourth goal of the Eastern Championships. Jackson Pitfield and Yulen Billy added on two more goals before the end of the period to put Selwyn up big. The game may have been out of reach but OHA wouldn鈥檛 go away quietly in the third, outshooting Selwyn House 14-5. OHA鈥檚 pressure would pay off late in the frame when Elliott Sullivan poked home a puck that was lying in the crease to break the goose egg. Nicolas Capolicchio (26/27) picked up the win for Selwyn House, kicking out 26 of the 27 shots he faced.聽

Mount Academy (1) vs Bishop’s College School (5) East U18 Championships Quarter-Final

However, Bishop鈥檚 Adam Straka (2G) would take over in the second period. The Slovak forward would garner two goals including a beautiful give-and-go with Kayden Robitaille. Taitt Dobbin would pick up the other goal for Bishop鈥檚 in the second, making things 4-1 through forty. The defence would tighten up for Mount but Logan Charby (1G, 1A) was still able to squeeze one more through for the extra insurance marker. Timofey Williams (/) picked up the win in goal, surrendering only one goal, the lone goal Bishop鈥檚 has allowed at the 2025 CSSHL Eastern Championships.

Okanagan Hockey Ontario (1) vs Stanstead College (4) East U17 Championships Quarter-Final

Stanstead College was firing all cylinders early in the first as 2025 QMJHL Draft prospects Alexis Lavoie and Liam Armit (3G) scored twice in a matter of 69-seconds. Armit would tally his second of the afternoon later in the second off a loose puck in close on the powerplay. OHO would get some momentum rolling back in their favour in the third as Blake Smith wired home a slapper from the point for their own powerplay goal. However, Armit would strike once again with a booming one-timer from the top of the slot to put this one out of reach for OHO. Emanuel Ganz (3A) and Matej Dobos (3A) each provided three assists in the win while Jonas Murrer (20/21) made twenty saves in between the pipes.

Boyer was the difference maker for Bourget, stopping all five CIH Academy shooters. Lazure came up with the shootout winner for Bourget in the fifth round.聽

Prairie Hockey Academy (4/SO) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (3) U18 Prep Western Championships

In a battle of undefeated teams, Prairie Hockey Academy skated away with a 4-3 shootout win over Calgary International Hockey Academy thanks to the filthy mitts of Henry Thunderblanket and strong goaltending from Micah Davidson. Zee Jamal opened the scoring in the first period for CIHA with their first of two power play goals in the contest. Noah Kelly responded for Prairie with a goal on the man advantage early in the second. Prairie took a two-goal lead later in the period on goals from Griffin Horne and Henry Thunderblanket that came 37 seconds apart. Oliver Kramp took advantage on another CIHA power play, cutting their deficit in half with his first goal of the Western Championships. CIHA鈥檚 Aden Bouchard (1G, 1A) evened the game up 8:48 into the third, scoring on an end-to-end rush. CIHA controlled the play in the third, outshooting Prairie 15-8. Micah Davidson (40/43) stood tall in Prairie鈥檚 net, turning aside every shot after Bouchard鈥檚 goal to send the game to an extra frame. In overtime, CIHA had the better of the chances but stellar goaltending from Davidson and a huge block by Prairie captain Ryland Molde sent the game to a shootout. Henry Thunderblanket put Prairie ahead in the second round, deking out the CIHA netminder Cole Prelusky (33/36) and sliding the puck into a wide-open net. Davidson did the rest for Prairie, making his third straight save in the shootout to seal the victory.聽

North Shore Warriors (0) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (4) U17 Western Championships

Shots remained tight in the opening twenty but Prairie would pounce on the scoresheet first with a quick pair of goals from Kashton Smith and Eric Helland. Prairie would control most of the second and would have it highlighted by an end-to-end effort from Braden Thompson. Prairie鈥檚 momentum would carry into the third, leading to a fourth goal off the blade of Zander Watson (1G, 1A). In goal, Colton Lutz (26/26) steered all 26-shots aside for the shutout, ending Prairie鈥檚 U17 season on a high note.

Shawnigan Lake School (3) vs BWC Academy (5) U18 Prep Western Championships

Max Malinousky (2A) spotted Jonathan Bitonti (2G) from the boards for a shorthanded marker to open the scoring in the first. Nigel Alberts would score his third of the playoffs soon after to tie things up at one for Shawnigan. However, BWC Academy would storm back on to the scene, scoring twice to close the period with credit to Richard Wonyeneh and Hunter Ashton. To open the second, Koen Gauthier would go end-to-end for Shawnigan to bring them back to within one. Once again, BWC Academy would strike late in the frame, this time off the stick of Bitonti for his second of the evening. Another solo rush for Shawnigan courtesy of Cole Mekelburg would once again bring them back to within striking distance, but that was all the offence Shawnigan was able to cook up. Lukas Hoff would wire one bar down to restore BWC Academy鈥檚 lead and take the victory. Noah Sinagowitz (27/30) picked up the W in the crease.聽

BWC Academy (1) vs Delta Hockey Academy (5) U17 Division II Western Championships

Delta came flying out the gates with three unanswered goals to ignite this game. Christian Sum got it all started with a solo rush down the right wing while Ewan Torrance and Emil Najm (3G) potted the next two. Michalis Kefalas got BWC Academy on the board late in the frame with a wicked wrister off the zone entry. However, Delta would keep their opposition in a vice grip heading forward as Najm buried another two to establish a four goal lead and the hat-trick. Coming into the playoffs, Najm had seven goals on the regular season. In three playoff games, the West Vancouver, BC native has six markers to his name. Delta would shut the door in the third, riding their 5-1 lead into the sunset. Lynden Mercier (25/26) picked up the win between the pipes.

South Alberta Hockey Academy (5/SO) vs Yale Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep Western Championships

A mere 33-seconds into play, Alexandre Jacques (2G) was able to give Yale the early lead with a snipe coming down the left wing. SAHA would end up getting the better of Yale by the end of the first frame as Luke Ruptash (2G) and Cash Olson registered two goals for their side. Yale would come back in the second with firepower. Jayden Oleskiw and Jacques would put Yale back in front just over six minutes into the middle frame. However, Ruptash would add his second of the evening from a sharp angle, making things even once again. Saskatoon Blades prospect Matthew Dowdall would restore Yale鈥檚 lead shortly after but Avery Watson (1G, 1A) would slam home a rebound to make things 4-4 through forty. The next twenty minutes wouldn鈥檛 see any scoring despite a couple of chances going each way. In overtime, Yale would find themselves on a 2-on-1 in the dying seconds but would fail to convert, leading this game to a shootout to decide who moves on to the Semi-Finals on Saturday. Through the opening five shooters, no one was able to figure out either Nathan Kam (42/46) or Mattias Radke (7/7). Calgary Hitmen prospect Shaun Hildebrandt would break the ice in the sixth round but would be evenly matched by Ty Hynes, extending the shootout. It wouldn鈥檛 be until the 10th round where we would see both teams go tic-for-tac once again as Matthew Dowdall and Cole Fisher would beat their respective goaltenders. Gus Schill would miss his opportunity to apply the pressure on SAHA. Lethbridge Hurricanes prospect William Scott would step up to the plate in the 11th round and wire a snapshot past the glove of Kam to end the marathon. In superstitious fashion, number 11 ends it in round 11 to send SAHA to the U18 Prep Semi-Finals!聽

Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy (1) vs BWC Academy (5) U17 Division II Western Championships

BWC Academy set out to control their game against Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy from start to finish, a task they鈥檇 accomplish from the outset; the 38-23 shots on goal margin in favour of BWC Academy through three periods was by virtue of them dominating each twenty-minute interval; Jacob Napoleon struck in the first period to put BWC Academy in front, with Josiah Lacerte extending extending the lead with the only goal of the second period. Mitch Wells pulled CDA back within one with a goal early in the third period, but their fight for an equalizer was short-lived, with Evan Vlad (2G) taking barely two and a half minutes to extend the lead. Jaiydan Bhandari made it four before Vlad scored his second, sealing the fifth of the day for BWC and the dominant 5-1 win.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (3) vs St. George鈥檚 School (5) U18 Prep Western Championships

RHA Winnipeg and St. George鈥檚 School played an extremely back-and-forth game through the first forty minutes; RHA Winnipeg Carter Haney opened the scoring in the first, with Harshaan Kaila (2G, 1A) responding for St. George鈥檚 to send the game into the second tied. London Taylor (1, 1A) and Lukasz McIsaac (1G, 2A) gave St. George鈥檚 a 2-0 lead in the second period, but RHA Winnipeg would make short work of drawing the game back even, thanks to goals less than one minute apart from Layne Schofield and Drayden Uhrina. The third period was a completely different story than the other two, with St. George鈥檚 taking control and dominating from the outset, outshooting their opponents 15-3 in the final twenty minutes. RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 Quinn Burfoot stood tall while under siege in the third but was beaten for the only time in the third period after barely five minutes. Charlie Weaver (1G, 1A) scored the go-ahead goal that would eventually, with an empty netter, stand as the winner, with St. George鈥檚 big third period leading them to a 5-3 victory.聽

Notre Dame Hounds (2) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (6) U18 Prep Division II Western Championships

Thursday鈥檚 game between Notre Dame and Pilot Mound had about the most eventful first nine minutes of hockey in the Western Championships thus far, thanks in part to a series of early penalties and powerplay chances. An early Hounds five-on-three gave Notre Dame a 2-0 lead early, with a pair of head contact penalties presenting Tristan Deshaies and Brendan Hurley the opportunity to score. Michael Tracy pulled Pilot Mound back within one, and after Notre Dame鈥檚 turn to take a penalty, Riley Robert struck on the ensuing powerplay to tie the game for PMHA. Caleb DeBruyne took 21 seconds of the second period to give Pilot Mound their first lead of the hockey game, with Matthew Palmer鈥檚 14 second-period saves helping PMHA into the third period with a one-goal lead. Palmer would make 15 stops in the third period, and he鈥檇 get more help, with three PMHA goals in the third sealing a 6-2 win.聽

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (6) vs OHA Edmonton (3) U17 Western Championships

Taking a lead into a third period, especially a two-goal lead, can be a somewhat tricky situation; it鈥檚 enough of a lead for some complacency to potentially set in, and if that鈥檚 the case, the game can quickly find its way back to tied. That鈥檚 why RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 third-period performance against OHA Edmonton was as impressive as it was; up 4-2 heading into the third period, RHA Winnipeg was coming off a second in which they were outshot 21-10 by an OHA Edmonton team that could muster only one goal despite their control. A similar third period would have put the RHA Winnipeg lead in some serious jeopardy. That鈥檚 why RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 control of the third period was so impressive; they controlled the vast majority of the final 20 minutes, outshooting OHA Edmonton 23-4. With that being said, the game remained 4-2 into the last two minutes, when on a powerplay, Osten Strickland scored to pull OHA Edmonton within one. RHA Winnipeg finally made good on their shot volume, too, thanks to Atley Feniuk鈥檚 pair of goals to seal the deal late.聽

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (0) vs Edge School (4) U17 Western Championships

Edge School鈥檚 start-to-finish control of the game was evidenced by their overwhelming edge in chance creation and shots on goal, but in the third period, PCHA pushed back. At every turn, however, Emerson Popil stood tall in the Edge School goal, ultimately stopping ten of ten in the third and 25 of 25 in the game to help Edge to the win. Popil鈥檚 shutout performance was slightly overshadowed by that of Darius Odermatt (1G, 3A) who earned a point on each Edge School goal en route to their 4-0 win.聽

Prairie Hockey Academy (0) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (4) U17 Western Championships

In a game marred by overarching incidents that didn鈥檛 involve the players, both sets of squads played a solid 60-minute effort in Thursday鈥檚 game between Prairie Hockey Academy and RHA Kelowna. While RHAK largely outplayed PHA, Prairie generated plenty of their own chances. Kesler Hamilton and Bennett Macek (1G, 1A) had RHAK ahead by two through one, with William Stewart in the RHAK goal ultimately stopping every single one of the 31 shots on goal he faced. Two more went in from RHAK to close things out from Colton Deschamps (1G, 1A) and Ryan Serfas to guide RHAK to the 4-0 win.聽

Indigenous Sports Academy (2) vs Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy (5) U18 Prep Division II Western Championships

Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy has been rolling through Divison II of the U18 Prep Western Championships by virtue of a high-powered offence, having scored six goals in each of the two previous games. Carson White-Sibley and Aleksandr Skuratov kept that trend going, scoring two goals apiece for CDA, who never trailed throughout their game against Indigenous Sports Academy. ISA never looked especially outmatched, throwing 47 shots on goal and scoring twice, but they couldn鈥檛 muster a comeback once CDA had established a two-goal lead. Bennett Byers stopped 45 for CDA, who now earn their third consecutive victory to start their Western Championships.聽

Delta Hockey Academy (6) vs BWC Academy (2) U18 Prep Western Championships

Delta Hockey Academy鈥檚 offensive explosion in the second period of play led the way to their 6-2 thumping of BWC Academy on Thursday, as after Lukas Lima scored the only first-period goal for BWC, Delta scored five in the second period alone, adding a sixth early in the third. Cruz Waltze (2G, 2A), Alexander Laing (2G), and Ryder Dunn (1G, 1A) led the way offensively for Delta, with all three scoring as part of Delta鈥檚 second period explosion. William Shepard scored for BWC in the third, but the goal stood as mere consolation, as Ashton Thornton made every save he needed to make to keep Delta in front big.聽

Bishop’s College School (5) vs Bourget College (3) East U18

The two previous matchups earlier in the season between Bishop鈥檚 College School and Bourget College both ended up being razor-thin one-goal games, with each side trading a win apiece in their home-and-home series in Janaury. Just past the halfway point of the game, Bishop鈥檚 had raced out to a 3-0 lead, with Kayden Robitaille鈥檚 goal and assist leading the way. Bourget kept fighting, but every time they scored, Bishop鈥檚 responded in kind, ensuring Bourget failed to get closer than down by two. Bishop鈥檚 took the 5-3 victory to win the season series against Bourget.聽

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (6) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (3) U18 Prep Western Championships

A fully-dominated first period for RHA Kelowna didn鈥檛 pay dividends as effectively as they would have wanted to. RHAK outshot Pacific Coast Hockey Academy 20-6 in the first period, but PCHA made good on their limited first-period opportunities, scoring twice on just six shots. RHAK did manage to escape the period in front, mustering three first-period goals of their own, including the first of two on the day from Benjamin Bowtell (2G, 1A). While PCHA gradually grew into the game as it went on, RHAK never seceeded from their position in the lead, earning the 4-2 goal from Aidan Fisher late in the second period. Bowtell scored again early in the third, paving the way for an eventual 6-3 victory.聽

Notre Dame Hounds (9) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (1) U17 Division II Western Championships

The Notre Dame Hounds took an early lead in their U17 Division II Western Championship game against the Northern Alberta Xtreme and remained in control throughout the game. Two goals from the Hounds in the first preempted Notre Dame鈥檚 four in the second, with NAX鈥檚 goal late in the second standing as their only one, and Notre Dame scoring three more in the third to cap off a 9-1 win. The Hounds were bolstered by three-point performances from Brandon Thompson (1G, 2A) and Joshua Legette (1G, 2A), with Landon Sokoloski鈥檚 five points (2G, 3A) the standout.聽

Shawnigan Lake School (1) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (5) U18 Prep Western Championships

Northern Alberta Xtreme did the damage they needed to do in the first forty minutes of their Thursday afternoon battle with Shawnigan Lake School, outshooting their opponents 27-9 and outscoring them 4-1 through two periods, with Michael Donovan鈥檚 three points leading the way. NAX got a little bit complacent in the third, with SLS taking control, but being unable to mount a comeback, thanks to Tyler Swanson鈥檚 15 saves on 15 third-period shots. NAX鈥檚 victory is a great bounce back after their loss to BWC yesterday.聽

South Alberta Hockey Academy (4) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (2)

South Alberta Hockey Academy鈥檚 first game of the Western Championships ended in heartbreak yesterday, with Josh McKague鈥檚 overtime winner for OHA Edmonton downing SAHA. Gavin Lesiuk had a big first period for SAHA, popping up with a goal and an assist, but he鈥檇 have that performance nullified by a similar one from OHA. Jackson Roberts responded in kind with a goal and an assist, pulling the game back to tied with his powerplay marker in the third period. The game looked destined for overtime, but desperate to find a different result than their game yesterday, SAHA鈥檚 late pressure paid off. Cole Fisher scored with 2:04 left to give SAHA the lead, with Brayden Ryan-Mackay (2G, 1A) sealing the deal into the empty net to give SAHA a 4-2 victory.

North Shore Warriors (1) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (10) U17 Western Championships

OHA outshot North Shore 59-23 en route to a 10-1 win Thursday evening. Gage Kiselbach (2G, 4A) and Lucan Kostiuk (2G, 3A) led the way offensively, each scoring two goals for OHA in the win. Beckham Taggart (1G, 2A) and Cooper Vogt (1G, 2A) each had a goal and two assists and Tyson Kuiack (22/23) made 22 saves in net for the win. Noah Russo scored the lone North Shore goal early in the second period to end the Kuiack shutout dream.

OHA Edmonton (2) vs Yale Hockey Academy (6) U18 Prep Western Championships

Nathan Kam (25/27) and Parker Snell (38/44) kept clean sheets in the first period as neither team broke through in the opening 20. Ryker Swanson would get the game’s first goal 9:44 into the second and Ilija Majkic doubled the Yale lead 6:15 later. Gus Schill (1G, 1A), Jacob Dumansky and Carter Bylycia scored early in the third as Yale began to run away with it, grabbing a 5-0 lead. Parker Fitzgerald (1G, 1A) halted the run midway through the period though Eli Barrett quickly replied for Yale. Paulo Borrelli would score a late consolation goal for OHA Edmonton with four seconds remaining.聽

Prairie Hockey Academy (7) vs Edge School (6) U18 Prep Western Championships

Adam M鈥橦amed (2G, 1A) opened the scoring 2:09 in on the power play as Edge grabbed an early lead. That lead was short lived as Reid Fraser countered for Prairie 12 seconds later. M鈥橦amed would restore the Edge lead 2:16 after that as the two teams combined for three goals in the opening five. Luke Myhre tied the game on the power play and Noah Kelly put Prairie ahead going into the second period. The two teams would trade power play goals in the second with Kale Pratte (2G, 1A) scoring for Prairie and Dallin Antos (2G, 2A) countering for Edge. Mirco Dufour brought Edge level early in the third with his third of the Championships. Grant Gliege (1G, 1A) restored the Prairie lead with a shorthanded goal but Antos tied the game on the same power play 19 seconds later and fellow defenseman Joaquin Geras (1G, 1A) put Edge ahead late. However, Edge would take two late penalties, opening the door for Hubert Larose (1G, 2A) to tie the game with 48 seconds left and Pratte to score the game winner with 10 seconds remaining.聽

North Shore Warriors (0) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep Western Championships

Sartaj Dhami (24/24) and Georgi Milanov (30/34) kept clean sheets in the first as the period ended tied 0-0. Townes Kozicky (1G, 1A) scored the lone third period goal to round out the scoring in a 4-0 CIHA win over North Shore.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (4) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (3) U18 Prep Western Championships

Drayden Uhrina鈥檚 late game-winner lifted RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg to a 4-3 win over RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna. RHA Kelowna put the pressure on in the first, outshooting RHA Winnipeg 16-9 but it was Cohen Lewko (2G) who gave RHA Winnipeg an early lead off a feed from Graeme Pickering. RHA Kelowna鈥檚 pressure would pay off midway through the period when Benjamin Bowtell (2G) got them on the board. It was more of the same in the second with Lewko restoring RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 lead with a power play marker before Bowtell tied the game up at two with 20 seconds left in the period. RHA Winnipeg continued to show their power play prowess in the third with River Arnason (1G, 1A) wiring a shot into the top corner for their second goal of the game on the man advantage. RHA Kelowna showed no quit, levelling the game up for the third time on Ryan Sadovia鈥檚 first goal of the Western Championships. In the dying minutes, an RHA Winnipeg point shot deflected to Drayden Uhrina who slid the puck under the outstretched arm of the RHA Kelowna netminder Conner Nicholson (31/35). That late goal stood up as the game-winner. Quinn Burfoot (26/29) turned aside 26 shots in RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 victory.聽

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (8) vs Edge School (3) U17 Western Championships

Murphy Johnston鈥檚 four-goal performance propelled RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg to an 8-3 victory over Edge School. There were goals galore in the opening frame and it started off early with Johnston (4G) scoring his first goal 1:16 into the contest to give RHA Winnipeg the advantage. Midway through the frame, there was a flurry of goals with the two teams finding the back of the net three times in a 1:08 span. Edge took their first lead of the game with goals from Darius Odermatt (1G, 1A) and Brett Lynch but Johnston quickly responded for RHA Winnipeg to tie the game. Edge restored their lead with just under four minutes to go when Henry Doucette scored on the man advantage. It was all RHA Winnipeg after that, scoring six unanswered goals to end the game. Atticus Cruz evened the game up and then Johnston turned the trick to give RHA Winnipeg a 4-3 edge after the first period. Atley Feniuk (2G) doubled RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 lead, scoring the lone goal in the middle frame. Edge had a big opportunity midway through the period when RHA Winnipeg took a boarding major but Edge was unable to convert. RHA Winnipeg pulled away in the third with goals from Johnston, Feniuk, and Reese Scott (1G, 1A). Justin Campbell (3A) had a hand in Johnston鈥檚 big day, assisting on his last three goals. Grayson McDonald (23/26) was steady for RHA Winnipeg in the final two periods, stopping all 13 shots he faced.聽

Balmoral (Winnipeg, MB) came into the Division II Championships as the number one seed and that’s how they would finish in the round robin after going 2-0-0 and earning a bye straight to the semi-finals. They would defeat the Northern Alberta Xtreme (Devon, AB) 5-1 to earn a spot in the finals.聽

After coming into the Division II Championships as the five seed, Delta Hockey Academy Black (Delta, BC) went 1-0-1 in the round robin to finish third in pool play. Abigail Jung would go bar down on Lauren Cherkas (29/31) 1:12 later as the three goal cushion quickly evaporated. Ultimately, Delta Black was unable to generate any zone time, let alone a tying goal, in the final minute as Balmoral held on for the 3-2 win.聽

Indigenous Sports Academy (3) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep Division II Western Championships

Riley Robert (2G) stretched Pilot Mound鈥檚 lead to three with a power play marker and an even-strength goal in the first 2:21 of the second period. ISA wouldn鈥檛 go away quietly in the third. A few minutes later, with ISA on the man advantage, Emery Medicine Shield made it a one-goal game, taking a pass from Logan Alexis and tipping it home. ISA was pressing in the final two minutes, getting a few chances in front of the net but Pilot Mound鈥檚 Aiden Trapp (26/29) was there to turn them aside. With 51 seconds left, ISA took a hooking penalty and it seemed like all hope was lost but that wasn鈥檛 the case. They were able to get the puck into the Pilot Mound end and had a chance that rolled up on top of the net but the puck would stay out, preserving Pilot Mound鈥檚 win. Caleb DeBruyne (2A) and Collin Friedrich (2A) each picked up two helpers for Pilot Mound. Kael Ratt (34/38) made 34 saves for ISA.聽

Joshua Moussadji was the hero for North Shore on the first shot of overtime, getting off an innocent wrister from just inside the faceoff circle that snuck underneath the blocker of Jones.聽

Delta Hockey Academy Green (0) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (2) Female U18 Prep Western Championships

They would start their Championships with a loss to South Alberta Hockey Academy (Dunmore, AB), but wins over OHA Edmonton and Shawnigan Lake School (Shawnigan Lake, BC) put them first in Pool B at the end of the round robin. Backed by three power play goal, Delta Green (Delta, BC) beat Edge School (Calgary, AB) 5-2 in the semi’s.

RHA Kelowna controlled the majority of the play in the first but Delta Green had some chances of their own. The period would ultimately end tied 0-0.聽

The home side would come out hungry in the second, spending a good chunk of the frame in the Delta Green zone while peppering Maisie Cope (43/45) with chance after chance. Alida Korte would double the lead 1:07 later with a great toe drag release that would beat Cope high glove.聽

It appeared the flood gates were set to open but Cope and her Delta Green teammates stayed within striking distance. Ultimately, they were unable to generate in the third as Ava Drabyk (17/17) made 17 saves for the shutout.

BWC Academy (6) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (2) U18 Prep Western Championships

Big performances from Jonathan Bitonti, William Shepard, and Noah Sinagowitz lifted eighth-seed BWC Academy to a 6-2 victory over the top-seed Northern Alberta Xtreme. All three players played a big part in BWC Academy taking a 2-0 lead in the first period. Shepard (1G, 2A) gloved down a puck behind the net and found Bitonti (1G, 2A) who snapped the puck home to give BWC Academy the advantage. Their special teams went to work with Charlie Robinson potting a power play goal before Grayson Tash and Kai Anderson (1G, 1A) got two shorthanded markers to extend BWC Academy鈥檚 lead to 5-1. The Xtreme pushed hard in the third, outshooting BWC Academy 20-8. Sinagowitz was calm under pressure, turning aside 19 shots in the final frame. Prairie Hockey Academy (1) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (2) U17 Western Championships

Rylan Bengert opened the scoring for OHA 12:26 into the first, poking the puck that was sitting on the Prairie goaltender into the net. Initially, the referees waved off the goal but after conferring they deemed that it was a good goal, giving OHA the first lead of the contest. With 31 seconds left in the period, Prairie鈥檚 Kashton Smith took advantage of an errant clearing attempt and beat OHA netminder Tyson Kuiack (19/20) on the blocker side to tie the game. Midway through the second, Luke Edgehouse split the Prairie defence and hit the post. Fortunately for OHA the puck went to Kohlby Foster who snuck the puck by Prairie netminder Colton Lutz (38/40), restoring OHA鈥檚 one-goal advantage. The goalies starred the rest of the way. Prairie鈥檚 Lutz was the busier of the two netminders with his team being doubled up on the shot clock each period. He held firm for Prairie but ultimately Kuiack outdueled him, stopping all 13 shots he faced in the final two periods to preserve the hometown team鈥檚 win.聽

Calgary International Hockey Academy (6) vs Edge School (3) U18 Prep Western Championships

In old time hockey fashion, Noah Milford (1G, 2A) unleashed a clap-bomb on the powerplay to give CIHA the outright lead and the lone goal through twenty. Cage Smith (1G, 1A) would open the scoring just 16-seconds into the second to extend CIHA鈥檚 lead while Scott Sandilands (2G, 1A) rifled one far side to make things 3-0. Mirco Dufour (2G) would then cut the deficit to one before the ice clean. In the third, Dufour would add his second of the evening off a sweet dish from England, tying the game at three. However, just over a minute later CIHA would resume their dominance on the offensive front. Cole Prelusky (34/37) picked up the win between the pipes, recording 34-saves in the winning effort.聽

Yale Hockey Academy (2/OT) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (1) U18 Prep Western Championships

Regina Pats prospect Cohen Handby got the ball rolling for OHA just over four minutes into play after Ethan Makokis spotted him with a stretch feed before lacing one five hole. OHA would carry the lead into the second until Shaun Hildebrandt wired home Yale鈥檚 first of the evening on a slick entry with Eli Barrett (2A) and Matthew Dowdall. The scoring would take a hiatus in the third as both Nathan Kam (40/41) and Chayse Johnson (44/46) would remain perfect in between the pipes. In overtime, Kamloops Blazers prospect Jacob Dumansky would stop on a dime, shaking an OHA defender off before making a b-line to the net, slipping one through Johnson to clinch Yale鈥檚 first win at the CSSHL Western Championships. Kam was the hero in the crease for Yale, stopping 40-shots in the win. Johnson would also put in a valiant effort, steering 44-shots aside in the hard fought OT loss.

Delta Hockey Academy (7) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (4) U17 Division II Western Championships

An early powerplay goal off the stick of Lincoln Arkinstall (2G) granted Delta the early lead. Emil Najm (2G) would extend Delta鈥檚 lead late in the second but would be quickly matched by NAX鈥檚 Barrett Fogolin (1G, 1A) before the ice clean. The second would almost be a spitting image of what happened in the first with Delta recording an early marker before adding one late with NAX just edging out the score clock before the end of the frame. After forty, the score was 4-2 Delta. Another early two goals for Delta in the third would spell the end for NAX in this contest. Jackson Curle and Clayton Toews were able to score twice in a matter of 19-seconds, but the four goal deficit was too much to overcome. Christian Sum (1G, 1A) would add the extra insurance following Toews鈥 goal, sealing off a 7-4 victory for Delta, improving their record to 2-0-0 in the playoffs.聽

OHA Edmonton (3/OT) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (2) U18 Prep Western Championships

In the late game, OHA Edmonton and South Alberta Hockey Academy would go the distance. Parker Fitzgerald (1G, 1A) would open the scoring off a deflection to give OHA Edmonton the early lead. However, SAHA鈥檚 Cash Olson would find twine down low to tie things up before the end of the frame. SAHA would ignite the scoring in the second after an Avery Watson wrister found its way through the wickets of Parker Snell (31/33). OHA Edmonton would keep their composure and would eventually find a response in the form of a Calum Giese one-timer from beneath the hash marks to tie this contest back up at 2-2. The third would not witness any scoring so overtime was necessary. SAHA would take a penalty in the extra frame, leading to their demise as Wenatchee Wild prospect, Josh McKague (1G, 1A) wired home the game winner on the powerplay to end off a busy day from Penticton, BC.

Unfortunately for OHA Edmonton, any shrivel of momentum was lost soon after as Kilah Hodder (1G, 1A) grabbed her first goal and fifth point of the postseason to restore RHA Kelowna鈥檚 four goal advantage. Alix Walchuk was superb in between the pipes for Shawnigan Lake School yesterday, stopping 18 in her team鈥檚 3-1 win over SAHA, and early in Monday鈥檚 game against Delta, she was called upon to provide a similar performance in the first period alone. She faced 13 Delta Green shots and did enough to keep the game scoreless long enough for Leah Hill (2G) to strike for Shawnigan to take the lead. Delta finally broke through on a late power play to send the game into the break tied, thanks to Payton Finnie (2G). Hill and Finnie would go on to swap power play goals in the first half of the second period, but with the game tied at two, Delta Green managed to take and extend their lead. Avery Wilson and London McDavid each scored before the second period鈥檚 conclusion, and with an empty-net goal, Delta Green ended up picking up a 5-2 victory.聽聽

Okanagan Hockey Academy (2) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (6) Female U18 Prep Western Championships

There鈥檚 nothing to knock about Okanagan Hockey Academy鈥檚 effort on Monday against an RHA Kelowna team who rolled through the first two games of their Western Championships with relative ease, and started Monday鈥檚 game in similarly dominant fashion, with Callie Rice (2G) scoring 49 seconds into the first period. Anezka Cabelova doubled the lead minutes later, with RHA Kelowna seemingly on their way to another dominant win. OHA responded really well, though, as after Tiani Makokis pulled OHA back within one, Felicia Girardo tied the game at two for OHA after just 95 second-period seconds. RHA Kelowna poured on the pressure, but Jorja Moore stood tall in between the pipes for OHA, making every save she was called upon to make in the second period at five-on-five. Danica Maynard (1G, 2A) scored on the powerplay with just over four minutes to play in the second to give RHA Kelowna the lead after a period in which they outshot their opponents 16-2. Rice added another one early in the third, and RHA Kelowna saw things out from there, protecting their lead until the end, with two more goals at the end of the third period helping the red-hot RHA Kelowna to their third consecutive victory at the Western Championships.聽

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (0) vs Edge School Female (6) U18 Prep Western Championships

Edge School鈥檚 first two games at the U18 Prep Western Championships were vastly different, with their 3-1 win on Saturday over OHA followed up by an 8-0 loss to RHA Kelowna on Sunday. RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 first two games against the same two opponents both ended in losses, with Edge School coming into Monday鈥檚 game as significant favourites. First-period goals from Olivia Imperato (2G) and Sara Hettle (1G, 2A) set Edge School on their way, flexing their offensive muscles by outshooting RHA Winnipeg 13-8, 11-7, and 14-8 in the three periods played. Edge ultimately won 6-0, with Alexis Ehrman backstopping her team to victory with a no-nonsense 23-save shutout.聽

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (0) vs Delta Hockey Academy Black (1/OT) Female U18 Prep Division II Western Championships Quarter-Finals

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Delta Black goal in their quarter-final gam, but at every turn, Nicole Flesher was there. The Dalhousie University commit dazzled in a 44-save shutout victory over NAX in her first Western Championship game on Thursday and was back to her near-impeccable ways in her team鈥檚 first knockout game against Pilot Mound Hockey Academy. PMHA had two powerplay chances in the first period, ultimately outhsooting Delta Black 14-5, but couldn鈥檛 beat Flesher. The offensive threat from Delta Black grew as the game went on, but PMHA still managed 15 second-period shots on goal, all denied. The game continued in kind in the third, with Flesher ultimately stopping 17 shots in the third and helping Delta Black to overtime in a scoreless tie. Flesher made save number 47 in the first minute of overtime, and after Delta recovered the puck in the defensive zone, they鈥檇 swiftly work their way up ice. Abigail Jung picked the top corner

Yale Hockey Academy (0) vs Delta Hockey Academy (1/OT) U15 Prep Western Championships Semi-Finals

Yale Hockey Academy and Delta Hockey Academy arrived at their Western Championship semi-final by vastly different means; DHA was coming off a 7-3 thumping in their quarter-final victory against RHA Winnipeg in which they sent 55 shots goalwards and grabbed three goals off the stick of the red-hot Tripp Fischer alone. Yale, conversely, fought BWC Academy tooth and nail throughout their Sunday evening quarter-final, trailing 4-3 with late in the game. Tanner Massey鈥檚 equalizer with 61 seconds to go made it possible for Christopher Kokkoris to win it in overtime. Interestingly enough, overtime was the destiny of Yale and Delta鈥檚 semi-finals, with the game seeing over 68 scoreless minutes pass by, with Jack Utsunomiya for Delta and Gavin Craig for Yale standing tall to keep things tied. Ultimately, with 82 seconds to play in overtime, Eli Vickers hit Casey Pearson with a pass in the neutral zone. Pearson, with a step on his defenseman, drove wide before finishing the play off with a deke to the backhand, winning the game for Delta Hockey Academy in dramatic fashion.

North Shore Warriors (1) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (7) U15 Prep Division II Western Championships Semi-Finals

Elias Mitrikas鈥 heroics, with a little help from a late game-winner from Sean Murphy, lifted the North Shore Warriors to the Western Championships semis. It was going to take a somewhat significant performance from Ashton Sims (31/38) between the pipes for the North Shore Warriors to better the undefeated Pilot Mound Hockey Academy, and through twenty minutes, it looked promising. North Shore were outplayed, but Sims stopped 14 of the 15 he faced, only beaten once by Brett Buors. Pilot Mound got a crucial second goal less than two minutes into the second period, with Kai Dingwall (2G) extending the lead. From there, the two teams traded chances throughout the second period, ultimately combining for 29 shots between the two squads in the middle frame alone. Pilot Mound earned a power play with barely under five minutes left in the second, and another goal from Dingwall extended the PMHA lead to three. Cole Landreville (1G, 2A) added another for Pilot Mound less than two minutes later, and by then, the damage was done for North Shore. Edward Kemp was able to pull them back within three in the last minute of the second, but three PMHA goals in the third put an exclamation point on Pilot Mound鈥檚 emphatic 7-1 semi-final victory.

STAR Hockey Academy (0) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) U15 Prep Western Championships Semi-Finals

Northern Alberta Xtreme鈥檚 first forty minutes of hockey set the stage for them to comfortably defeat STAR Hockey Academy by a 3-0 scoreline on Sunday evening in the U15 Prep Western Championships Semi-Finals. Josh Ngandu scored the only goal of a first period primarily controlled by NAX, but in the second, they dominated, and two goals off the stick of Brady Ondrus saw NAX to a three-goal lead through forty minutes, having outshot STAR 15-1 in the second period alone. STAR pushed back in the third, but NAX was able to shift into defensive cruise control, with goaltender Karter Gibson stopping all 12 shots he faced in the third period to cap off a 21-save shutout victory.

North Shore Warriors (0) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (2) Female U18 Prep Division II Western Championships Quarter-Finals

Ryann Faulkner (23/23) stopped all 23 shots she faced to backstop OHA Black to a 2-0 win over North Shore in the quarter-finals. After a scoreless first period, Haraya Mitchell and Rebecca Macfarlane beat Haylie Hedges (32/34) less than three minutes apart in the second to provide OHA Black with all of the offence they would need.

Notre Dame Hounds (0) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (9) U15 Prep Division II Western Championships Semi-Finals

OHA outshot Notre Dame 58-28 en route to a 9-0 win. Maddox Slater (28/28) stopped all 28 shots he faced and Gage Mark (2G, 3A) paced the offence with five points. Talon Scinocca (1G, 2A) and Cohen Short (1G, 2A) each had three point games in the win.聽

Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) vs St. Mary’s Academy (2) Female U18 Prep Division II Western Championships Quarter-Finals

Defenseman Brayden Stewart gave NAX the lead late in the first period with her first goal of the Championships. Reese Kartusch tied the game 5:32 into the second with her fourth of the playoffs. Isabella Roppo would pounce on a rebound less than two minutes later to put NAX back ahead in the second. The period would end tied 2-2 as Mullen MacIntyre beat Aldawna Evers (33/35) off the post and in on a delayed penalty. Kaitlyn Senkoe would score the eventual game winner 6:25 into the third and Evers finished with 33 saves as the seven seed NAX knocked-off second seed St. Mary鈥檚.聽

South Alberta Hockey Academy (0) vs OHA Edmonton (1) Female U18 Prep Western Championships

Both goalies faced 25 shots in net as Ava Antle (25/25) came up with one more save than Emma Skolney (24/25) to send OHA Edmonton to the semi-finals. Riley Cooper scored the game winning goal 8:24 into the game before both goalies shut the door the rest of the way. With the win, OHA Edmonton finished second in Pool B, setting up a semi-final game against RHA Kelowna.聽

Bishop’s College School (6) vs Fort Erie International Academy (4) East U17

Thomas Harvey opened the scoring for Fort Erie 3:45 into the game. Jan Vladar (2G) levelled the score 10 minutes later with his 16th goal of the season. Jaydem Goolab (2G) restored the Fort Erie lead midway through the second while on the power play, but Vladar once again tied the game 30 seconds later. Bishop鈥檚 would start the third firing on all cylinders as Brandon Fuicelli scored 46 seconds in before Mavrick Legault (2G) scored 1:01 later and another 34 seconds after that. Fort Erie wouldn鈥檛 go away quietly as Goolab and Channing Cooper scored 39 seconds apart midway through the period to bring their team within one with 8:19 left to play. But Samuel Boutet (1G, 2A) would score an empty net goal with 15 seconds remaining to secure the Bishop鈥檚 victory. Dax Doiron (27/31) and Demitry Gikas (30/35) were in net for their respective teams.聽

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (1) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (5) Female U18 Prep Western Championships

The competitiveness of Sunday鈥檚 game for RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg was in the hands of Maggie Schell, with RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 goaltender mustering a brilliant performance through the game鈥檚 first twenty minutes. Okanagan Hockey Academy outshot their opponents 17-4 in the first period, and Schell nearly dragged RHA Winnipeg out of the period tied before Mena Bhatt (1G, 2A) scored with 100 seconds to play to give OHA the lead. The second period, unfortunately for RHA Winnipeg, saw the dam break; Emma Deleurme, Tiani Makokis, and Alex Recsky all scored for OHA in the second period alone, and the 4-0 scoreline through forty minutes was as good as game over. Okanagan Hockey Academy eventually secured a 5-1 victory.聽

St. George’s School vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna U15 Prep Western Championships Consolation

The first forty and final twenty minutes of Sunday鈥檚 game between St. George鈥檚 School and RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna were somewhat significant contrasts; St. George鈥檚 Noah Fowler (3G) scored the only goal in a first period that saw St. George鈥檚 outshoot their opponents 11-8. Fowler scored again in the second, but the two-goal St. George鈥檚 advantage was short-lived, thanks to Deacon Gayfer鈥檚 response a mere 23 seconds after Fowler鈥檚 second goal. Bronson Lamontagne (1G, 1A) drew RHA Kelowna back to level, and while Noah Fowler completed his hat-trick to make it 3-2 St. George鈥檚, Channon Fummerton tied the game heading into the third. That鈥檚 where the script flipped; the 3-3 tie and 23-19 shots in goal edge for St. George鈥檚 through forty was amended quickly and frequently; St. George鈥檚 peppered the RHA Kelowna goal for 17 shots in the third, and managed five goals. Bradley Ching scored the go-ahead goal with 52 seconds, and Logan Okamura鈥檚 two goals later in the third period helped St. George鈥檚 to an emphatic 8-3 win.

South Alberta Hockey Academy vs Shawnigan Lake School Female U18 Prep Western Championships聽

Shawnigan Lake School鈥檚 first period against the South Alberta Hockey Academy was one they鈥檇 be incredibly keen to improve upon; Dawson Benson scored early, but Kapri Coston鈥檚 equalizer sent the game into the second period tied at one goal apiece. Shawnigan has been one of the more dominant CSSHL Female U18 Prep programs so far this season, while SAHA have been doing their best to stay above the middle of the 15-team standings. It took a little bit longer than expected, but eventually, Shawnigan took over the game, with Hannah Palumbo in the SAHA goal needing some heroics to keep the game tied. With under forty seconds to play, Grace Cooper鈥檚 power play goal gave Shawnigan a 2-1 lead, making good on the favourites鈥 19-4 edge in second-period shots on goal. Shawnigan Lake controlled the bulk of the third, and Eden Hamel iced things into the empty net, helping her team to a 3-1 lead during a game in which they more than doubled their opponents in shots on goal.聽

Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (5) vs North Shore Warriors (1) Female U18 Prep Division II Western Championships

Okanagan Hockey Academy Black had their top-end personnel come to play on Sunday morning, with Hayden Wild (2G, 1A), Lylah Dietz (1G, 1A), Raina Chala (2A), and Megan Norrie (2A) all popping up with multi-point efforts en route to their victory over North Shore Warriors. Dietz had her first-period goal stand on its own until Elise Miller pulled North Shore back to 1-1, where the game would remain deep into the second period. That鈥檚 where Hayden Wild took over, scoring twice in less than two minutes to stretch Okanagan Hockey Academy鈥檚 lead to two goals. Morgan Ghag鈥檚 third-period goal extended the lead, providing OHA enough of a cushion to see out what ended up being a 4-2 victory, thanks in part to Ryann Faulkner鈥檚 29 stops to help her team over the finish line.

Shawnigan Lake School vs North Shore Warriors U15 Prep Division II Western Championships Quarter-Final

Elias Mitrikas鈥 season in between the pipes for the North Shore Warriors U15 Prep side has been, unfortunately, marred by a trend; Mitrikas is superb, making countless ten-bell saves, but North Shore can鈥檛 beat their opponents; Mitrikas finished the year with a staggering .926 save percentage in 20 appearances, had seven games with 50 or more saves, but only earned three victories. Sunday brought North Shore a difficult opponent in the form of Shawnigan Lake School in a big game, with a spot in the U15 Prep Division II Western Championship Semi-Finals on the line. Shawnigan controlled the bulk of the game; they successfully outshot North Shore 38-24 through three periods, had more power play opportunities, and more scoring chances. However, at every turn, Elias Mitrikas was there with a save. The game remained locked in a scoreless tie through 57 minutes, but with less than three to play, a broken play from the corner of the offensive zone found Sean Murphy in the high slot. Murphy picked the top corner, finally breaking the ice and establishing a lead that Mitrikas and the rest of the Warriors would protect until the end. Riley Taylor鈥檚 empty-netter sealed the deal, and North Shore prevailed 2-0, with Mitrikas鈥 38 save shutout paving their path to the semis.

Edge School (0) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (8) Female U18 Prep Western Championships

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna鈥檚 Female U18 Prep team played a grand total of 30 games in the CSSHL this season. 29 of them ended in victory, with RHAK rolling through nearly every opponent who squared off against them this season. The Western Championships for RHAK started no different, as after their dismantling of RHA Winnipeg in game one, they鈥檇 roll through Edge School with relative ease on Sunday. Anezka Cabelova (2G, 1A) and Jilliam McLaughlin (2G, 1A) led the way, but the RHA Kelowna鈥檚 control was most evident by their shots on goal, outshooting Edge School by double digits in each period. RHA Kelowna ended up with eight, prevailing for the second consecutive game, and now having scored a whopping 24 goals in two games thus far at the Western Championship.

CIH Academy (3) vs Ontario Hockey Academy (5) East U17

The nature of Ontario Hockey Academy and CIH Academy鈥檚 game on Sunday would have been no surprise to anyone who watched their most head-to-head battle in the CSSHL, as on that day, a tightly-fought affair went all the way to the wire. Ontario Hockey Academy won in a shootout on that day, improving to 2-0 against CIH on the season so far. Sunday was yet another tightly-fought battle in which the winner was in doubt until the very end. To start the game off, it looked like OHA had the game in their control, with Nichita Viscu (1G, 1A) scoring to make it 2-0 late in the first period. After they doubled their lead, though, they switched off and allowed CIH back into the game. Two points apiece from Connor Welsh (1G, 1A) and Tobias Lednicky (3A) sent the game into the second period squared up at two, where it would remain for only 73 seconds of the second. Yota Matsumura quickly popped up with a goal and a primary assist for OHA, giving them a 4-2 second-period cushion. Drake Bosum pulled CIH back within one, which set the stage for the visitors to pepper the OHA goal throughout the third, but they couldn鈥檛 find a way past OHA鈥檚 Griffin Fitzpatrick, who stopped 42 of 45 shots to help his team to an eventual 5-3 victory.

OHA Edmonton vs Delta Hockey Academy Green Female U18 Prep Western Championships

Sometimes, you can only guess what happens during a hockey game that swings the momentum from one team to the other and can only guess how the coaches and players react to everything that happens throughout. The big point in which momentum seemed to swing in Sunday鈥檚 game between OHA Edmonton and Delta Hockey Academy Green was evident; after twenty minutes in which Delta Green looked flat and uninspired, the first intermission proved to be where everything changed. OHA Edmonton led 2-1 through one, outshooting Delta 9-7, and looked the more dominant side throughout the opening twenty minutes. That narrative got flipped on his head; whatever team talk was delivered in the Delta Green dressing room in between the first and second periods was massively effective in motivating Delta Green to an excellent period of hockey; they outscored OHA Edmonton 5-1 throughout the middle twenty minutes, outshot them 22-9, and controlled the pace of play throughout. Molly Cole鈥檚 two goals led the way for Delta Black through two periods, and while Joryn Hempel (1G, 1A) was able to pull OHA Edmonton a step closer in the third, Delta Black hung on for the 6-4 victory, thanks in part to goaltender Maisie Cope鈥檚 31 stops.聽

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (1) vs Notre Dame Hounds (2) U15 Prep Division II Western Championships Quarter-Final

Only one of Pacific Coast Hockey Academy and the Notre Dame Hounds could earn a semi-final spot in their Western Championship battle on Sunday, and after a first period saw both teams fail to light the lamp, the Hounds took a massive step towards the semis within just nine second-period seconds. Matthew Boekelder鈥檚 perfect wrist shot gave Notre Dame the lead, but despite the goal coming right at the beginning of the period, the rest of the second would be similarly dormant to the first from a goal-scoring perspective. It took all the way until the dying moments of the second period, when Notre Dame finally popped up with the game鈥檚 second goal, thanks to Davian Ferland. PCHA couldn鈥檛 beat Notre Dame鈥檚 Ben Meyer for nearly the entirety of the third period, and while Nehemiah Punkett would eventually get a puck behind him late in the third, it was too little, too late. Meyer鈥檚 shutout would be spoiled, but his 27 saves were still enough for the 2-1 victory.

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (6) vs Balmoral Hall School (8) Female U18 Prep Division II Western Championships

The first and third periods for Pilot Mound Hockey Academy on Sunday were both very strong performances; they outshot their opponents in both, had plenty of chances, and scored more than their opponents in the first and last periods combined. The second period, though, was where Balmoral Hall School would do the vast majority of their damage; they managed five second-period goals, with two goals and three points from Shayna Bannister (3G, 2A) in the second period alone leading the way to Balmoral鈥檚 victory. Balmoral Hall ultimately won 8-6, thanks in part to Bannister adding another goal and assist in the third period, with the University of Manitoba commit scoring five points to lead the way to victory.

Delta Hockey Academy Black (5) vs St. Mary鈥檚 Academy (6/OT) Female U18 Prep Division II Western Championships

Delta Hockey Academy Black came into Sunday鈥檚 matchup with St. Mary鈥檚 Academy on a high note, having defeated Northern Alberta Xtreme in convincing fashion on Friday. St. Mary鈥檚, likewise, triumphed over NAX, but in significantly less dominant fashion; that to say, the momentum lay squarely with a Delta team coming off an extra day off. It was Delta Black who took the lead through Alexis Howitt (3G) in the first period. St. Mary鈥檚 response was swift and clinical, however, with the Flames scoring twice in the five minutes that followed Howitt鈥檚 icebreaker. It would, however, be Howitt again to square things up just seven seconds to the break, striking on a Delta Black powerplay that went three-for-three in their opener against NAX. The two teams swapped punches throughout the second period, but neither side managed to take more than a one-goal lead before their opponent managed to tie it. Howitt completed her hat-trick with 50 seconds remaining in the second, giving Delta Black a 5-4 lead into the third, one they鈥檇 have a golden opportunity to build on late in the third period. A slashing penalty to St. Mary鈥檚 with just over five to play gave the red-hot Delta Black powerplay an opportunity to seal it. They failed, and less than a minute after the penalty expired, Reese Kartusch (2G, 1A) tied the game. Less than four minutes into overtime, St. Mary鈥檚 completed the comeback, thanks to Jade Pelland鈥檚 (2G) game winner.聽

OHA Edmonton (4) vs STAR Hockey Academy (7) U15 Prep Western Championships Quarter-Final

Two incredibly evenly-matched squads had a spirited eleven-goal thriller in their quarter-final on Sunday, with Zakhar Kovalenko (2G, 1A), Sean McIntyre (1G, 3A), and Daniel Makovetskiy (1G, 2A) leading STAR Hockey Academy to their 7-4 victory. For every one goal OHA Edmonton mustered, STAR responded with two; this happened after three consecutive OHA Edmonton goals, and by the third period, it had given STAR a three-goal stranglehold they wouldn鈥檛 relinquish. Erik Sims picked up the win for STAR, with the Tacoma, Washington native earning his second victory of the Western Championships, having made 38 saves in his first game, a win over St. George鈥檚.

Edge School (1) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (5) U15 Prep Western Championships Quarter-Final

Northern Alberta Xtreme鈥檚 quarter-final win over Edge School in the U15 Prep Western Championships on Sunday could have very, very easily turned out incredibly different than the 5-1 scoreline would suggest. Edge School created plenty of chances in the first period, outshooting NAX 13-8, but couldn鈥檛 get the puck behind Dawson Sheehan in the Northern Alberta Xtreme net. Sheehan stopped all 13 shots he faced and was helped by his offence, with Easton Arndt and Riley Brown (2G) each scoring in the first to give NAX a two-goal lead. From there, Northern Alberta Xtreme wrestled control of the game away from Edge, outshooting them 10-3 and 15-6 in the second and third periods, respectively. Edge would score in the second to make a game of things, but three consecutive NAX goals in the third put the nail in the coffin of Edge School鈥檚 5-1 defeat.聽

Yale Hockey Academy (5/OT) vs BWC Academy (4) U15 Prep Western Championships Quarter-Final

Kristian Lima got the ball rolling for BWC Academy 59-seconds into play, leaning into a slapper after pouncing on a loose puck between the hash marks. Yale鈥檚 Tanner Massey (2G, 1A) would quickly respond for Yale, erasing BWC Academy鈥檚 lead a mere 74-seconds later. Kenzo Gibson would close the scoring in the first, jamming home a puck in close to restore BWC Academy鈥檚 advantage. Yale would find some jump early in the second as Matteo Zenone and Tony Cabelka (1G, 2A) scored 31-seconds apart to give Yale their first lead of the game. On the opposite end of the ice, BWC Academy was stirring up their batch of quick goals too as Logan Henry and Cohen Baker (1G, 1A) snatched a late pair of goals to put BWC Academy back in the driver seat. Yale would see their fair share of opportunities in the third but couldn鈥檛 manage to break past Bentley Edgar (30/35). With the goaltender pulled, Massey would roof a backhand in tight to tie things up at four, sending this quarter-final to overtime. However, Massey would take a four-minute minor to end the frame, putting his team on the penalty kill for the start of OT. After a nail-biting four-minutes, Gavin Craig (36/40) and the Yale penalty killers would fend off the penalty. The momentum would quickly swing into Yale鈥檚 favour leading to Christopher Kokkoris (1G, 1A) taking a couple stabs at net. Kokkoris would manage to maintain the puck after making a move to the goal, turning back around and attacking with speed to the middle before slipping a backhander past Edgar, sending Yale to the semi-finals in heroic fashion.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (3) vs Delta Hockey Academy (7) U15 Prep Western Championships Quarter-Final

Delta had RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 number in the first period, scoring three unanswered to open the scoring in their quarter-final matchup. Peter Banicevic (1G, 2A) would wire home his third of the postseason to cap off their scoring in the first. However, Brady Filmon would blast home a feed from Athens Shingoose (1G, 1A) near the end of the first, looking to generate some momentum in the second for RHA Winnipeg. Delta would keep applying pressure early in the second as Tripp Fischer (3G) found the back of the net just 65-seconds into play off a brilliant feed from Nicolas Peach (2A). Casey Pearson (1G, 1A) would score the only other goal in the period, increasing Delta鈥檚 lead to 5-1. Markus Knaub would score off a dashing solo effort to ignite the third, but Delta鈥檚 Fischer would pot two quick ones to keep RHA Winnipeg at bay and secure his hat-trick. Shingoose would score a late consolation goal to cap off an electric postseason for the Waywayseecapo, MB native. Delta moves on to the semi-finals and will play Yale at 1:15PM PST at the SOEC.
