St. Mary’s Academy (1) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (4) Female U18 Prep
South Alberta Hockey Academy’s start to the calendar year has seen the team roll through Edge School and Pilot Mound Hockey Academy on their way to Saturday morning’s battle with St. Mary’s Academy, a team looking to better an Alberta road trip that had so far seen St. Mary’s win once and lose thrice. The game remained dormant until the second period, and after an early powerplay gave SAHA a surge of momentum, they’d make it count. Kamryn Reiber (1G, 1A) opened the scoring after nearly six and a half minutes of the second period. Consecutive St. Mary’s penalties, one being a five-minute major, saw SAHA play the bulk of the second period’s back half on the powerplay. Jaylee Skog took advantage of the extra player on the ice to extend SAHA’s lead late in the second, with her team ahead 2-0 through 40 minutes. The contest ended up being put to rest early in the third, with Teylor Crocker only needing a mere 38 seconds to make it 3-0 SAHA. Riley Bourque added a fourth, and although Faith Legault pulled St. Mary’s back within three, SAHA cruised to the 4-1 win.
Bishop’s College School (2) vs Ulysse Academie (4) East U18
Saturday’s game between Bishop’s College and Ulysse Acadmie marked the two teams’ second head-to-head battle of the month. Ulysse won 4-1 in the first, giving Bishop’s College plenty of spark to kick off Saturday’s affair, which was capitalized on by Nathan Birch 7:31 into the first period. Bishop’s lead lasted merely five minutes thanks to Éloi Vaugeois (1G, 1A) who sent the game into the second tied at one. Ulysse took their first lead through Cedrick Fortin scoring the only goal of an evenly-matched second period that ended with Ulysse taking a powerplay into the third. Marco Campo took only 35 seconds to score in the third, taking advantage of the powerplay, and giving Ulysse the game’s first two-goal advantage. Tristan Gagnon scored to pull Bishop’s back within a goal, with Bishop’s push throughout the third ultimately in vain. Guillaume Legault scored the insurance goal in the back half of the third period to help Ulysse win the game 4-2, their second victory over Bishop’s College this month.Ìý
Edge School (12) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (2) U15
Edge School have been rolling through the CSSHL U15 division with as much relative ease as a team could realistically have experienced through thirty games this season. By Saturday, RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg needed no introductions to an Edge School team who had beaten them 8-2 on Thursday and 7-2 on Friday. The third of four games this weekend saw Edge seemingly keen on deciding the game within the first period. Kyden Bartole scored the first of seven first-period goals for Edge, and while Edge didn’t maintain their seven-goals-per-period pace, they ended up winning the game 12-2. Brody Antignani (3G, 2A), Zachary Pomeroy (2G, 3A), and James Butterwick (4A) had big games, while RHA Winnipeg can look forward to tomorrow’s fourth game of the weekend against Edge as the final time they’ll have to face them this season.Ìý
North Shore Warriors (4) vs Delta Hockey Academy (5) U17
Last Saturday’s 2-1 shootout win over Okanagan Hockey Academy was the first Delta Hockey Academy U17 victory since they’d beat the North Shore Warriors back on January 24. North Shore beat Delta the next day, kicking off what turned into a four-game losing streak, but with Delta back in the win column, they had the North Shore Warriors on the docket again on Saturday morning, eager to avenge their most recent battle. Delta established themselves on the front foot a mere 15 seconds into the hockey game thanks to a goal from Christian Sum (1G, 1A) before Kaydin Halladay and Jack Triance scored late to extend Delta’s lead to 3-0 through one. After the first period, North Shore made a goaltending change, bringing Erik Blair into the game. Blair made 13 saves on 13 shots in the second period, providing the foundation for his team to fight their way back into the game. North Shore’s pushback found success first through Laurenz Liebhart who made it 3-1 before Ethan Elford’s first goal of the season sent the Warriors into the break down just one. In the span of less than three minutes near the beginning of the third period, North Shore turned the game around to take the lead, with Noah Russo and Santino Esposito scoring the third and fourth consecutive tallies from the Warriors, turning the 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 lead that they’d hold until the third period’s closing stages. An extra attacker and an all-out attack from Delta ended up paying dividends with just one second left in the third period, thanks to Kaydin Halladay, who found the loose puck in the slot and spun home the last-gasp equalizer. Goals in the shootout from Delta’s Christian Sum and Kaydin Halladay won the game for their team, with Lynden Mercier stopping both North Shore shooters to earn the shootout win.Ìý
Lower Canada College (5) vs Selwyn House School East (2) U17
The memories of last Friday’s 5-4 overtime loss to Selwyn House School would still have been fresh on the minds of the Lower Canada College team who rolled back into Westmount Arena on Saturday looking to avenge last week’s loss. Pasquale Presti (1G, 1A) gave Selwyn the lead after one, but Lukas Royko (3G) scored his first of the game to tie the game up at one. After LCC went down again, Matthew D’Urso (1G, 2A) scored to tie the game with just ten seconds remaining in the second period. The momentum gained from the late goal was palpable and after Anthony Lombardo (1G, 2A) gave LCC their first lead, Lukas Royko scored twice to complete his hat-trick, helping his club to a 5-2 victory.Ìý
OHA Edmonton (1) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (4) U17
OHA Edmonton’s tear through the most recent month of the season continued into Winnipeg on Friday night, with the Albertans prevailing 5-3 over RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg. That was the first of a three-game weekend series, with its second game coming Saturday afternoon and the last occurring tomorrow. Today, the first period belonged to the goaltenders, but Osten Strickland took only 63 seconds to score in the second, giving OHA Edmonton the lead, a lead that didn’t last much longer than three and a half minutes. Atley Feniuk (3G) found both RHA Winnipeg’s tying marker and the subsequent go-ahead goal on the powerplay to turn the score around. Murphy Johnston extended RHA Winnipeg’s lead to 3-1 before a third period that saw Atley Feniuk score again, completing his hat trick, and establishing a 4-1 lead that was too significant a deficit for OHA Edmonton to fight back from. Feniuk’s hat-trick will earn plenty of plaudits, but it would be impossible to ignore the impact Grayson McDonald’s 38 saves had to help his RHA Winnipeg team to the win.Ìý
OHA Edmonton vs Northern Alberta Xtreme U15
OHA Edmonton and Northern Alberta Xtreme’s proximity rivalry has been prevalent all season long, with the two U15 sides kicking off four consecutive games against one another on Saturday. They took no time at all to get into the action, with five different goalscorers all burying the puck less than six and a half minutes into the first period. OHA Edmonton ended up ahead 4-2 through twenty minutes, largely thanks to their edge in special teams play, with Eli Smith (1G, 1A) and Jiseong Kim scoring on the powerplay and shorthanded respectively. The second period provided NAX the opportunity to turn the game back around, and after Knox Kehler opened the scoring, NAX’s special teams helped them tie the game, first with Malaki Andrews scoring shorthanded. Following that, Lincoln Baschuk (1G, 1A) scored on the powerplay, giving NAX their first lead of the game, a 5-4 lead that, unfortunately for NAX, didn’t last long. Ian Kim (2G) pulled OHA Edmonton back to level 2:44 into the third period, scoring his second of the game, with things remaining tied until the final four minutes. Jaxson Weisgerber’s go-ahead goal with 3:42 left was enough to give OHA Edmonton the lead and subsequently a 6-5 win in the first of four games in eight days between these two rivals.Ìý
