The goals would keep coming through the rest of the second, with Logan Henry (2G, 2A) burying the last goal to cut Edge’s lead to one before the horn sounded. Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (3) vs Delta Hockey Academy Black (4) Female U18 Prep
Pilot Mound Hockey Academy’s February wasn’t a significant improvement on their previous struggles, but the search for victory has come close multiple times in the month already, losing by one goal to both Balmoral Hall School and NAX. Delta Hockey Academy Black took a pair of early penalties, giving PMHA substantial powerplay time in the first period. Emma Asplund scored the first period’s only goal for PMHA, giving them a 1-0 lead heading into the break. If you missed the first minute of the second period, however, you’d have missed a lead change, with Haley Waugh (1G, 1A) scoring 26 seconds into the second period to tie the game at one. Eight seconds following Waugh’s goal, Kaylyn Halwas added another, giving Delta Black a 2-1 lead early in the second. Abigail Jung (1G, 1A) scored to give Delta Black a two-goal advantage before PMHA would muster a response. Heidi Danners and McKayla Romano struck within 50 seconds to drag Pilot Mound back into the contest, tying the game up at three goals apiece. Delta Black’s Alexis Vary scored on the power play, giving her team a 4-3 lead through two periods, which despite a strong PMHA push in the third period, was enough to hang on for the victory.Ìý
Yale Hockey Academy (4) vs Notre Dame (1) U15 Prep
Not a tremendous amount changed between the first period and the rest of the hockey game for Yale Hockey Academy and the Notre Dame Hounds’ U15 Prep programs; Yale controlled the game at five-on-five, while Notre Dame took advantage of their opportunities on the man advantage and on their counter-attacks. Ben Meyer stood on his head in the Notre Dame crease, saving all 15 shots he faced in the first period, but couldn’t keep his team in a tie forever, and that’s where Yale’s control of the game became solidified. Meyer kept fighting into the second period, but eventually, Nicholas Voinea scored his first of two goals in the game to give Yale a 1-0 lead. Notre Dame dug in, killing a five-on-three in the process, but couldn’t find an equalizer. Alex Li scored with 90 seconds remaining in the second to double the Yale lead, a two-goal advantage the Lions couldn’t get into the intermission with, thanks to Lukas Lundgren scoring late to pull the Hounds within one. Any momentum Notre Dame might have built thanks to Lundgren’s goal, though, lasted a mere 13 third-period seconds. Voinea scored his second for Yale, making it 3-1, before Michael Kuzik (1G, 1A) scored to make it 4-1 on the powerplay. Despite his team’s control of the game, Mason Sutherland still had a significant part to play, making 22 saves on 23 shots for Yale in the win.
Balmoral Hall School (2) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (7) Female U18 Prep
Okanagan Hockey Academy peppered the Balmoral Hall School net with 20 first-period shots, with Grace Littler (1G, 1A) scoring the first goal of the game for OHA. Despite being doubled in the shots category in the first period, Balmoral escaped with a 2-1 lead, thanks to Lydia Hill and Brannagh Rae scoring before the first closed. Okanagan Hockey Academy didn’t have as many shots in the second as the first, but evidently, didn’t need to. Four goals in a 6:22 span during the second period for OHA put the game well out of the reach of Balmoral, with Brooklyn Blomquist (1G, 3A), Alex Recsky, Ava Clavelle (1G, 1A), and Madison Deschamps giving OHA a 5-2 lead through two. OHA shut the third period down, scoring twice and limiting Balmoral to merely three shots en route to the 7-2 win.Ìý
Calgary International Hockey Academy (2) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (6) U18 Prep
Doubts about Northern Alberta Xtreme’s stronghold atop the U18 Prep standings have long since passed, but it was clear that complacency creeping into NAX’s game wasn’t going to be a problem. Sartaj Dhami made his fair share of early saves to keep CIHA in the game, but prior to the end of the period, NAX broke through with Carter Ellsworth (1G, 1A) scoring to put his team in front. Calgary International Hockey Academy wouldn’t spend much of the second period chasing, thanks to Scott Sandilands’ goal after merely 29 seconds, and CIHA kept pushing from there. Nate Stevens stemmed the tide during the rest of the second-period pressure, keeping his NAX team in a tie with 10 saves on 10 shots following the goal. NAX managed to reestablish their lead before the third, with Michael Donovan (3G) scoring in the last minute of the second to make it 2-1. Donovan scored again after 85 third-period seconds to give his side the first two-goal lead of the game, and NAX wouldn’t look back from there. Jake Walker and Mason Koponyas quickly both earned one of their three assists, with Ty Nessler scoring on the powerplay, and Michael Donovan finishing his hat-trick shorthanded. Gavin Harrison (1G, 1A) added one late to help NAX see CIHA off by a 6-2 scoreline.Ìý
Yale Hockey Academy (0) vs North Shore Warriors (1) U18 Prep
The U18 Prep matchup between Yale Hockey Academy and the North Shore Warriors featured one of hockey’s more bizarre rarities, thanks in large part to North Shore’s Georgi Milanov and Yale’s Nathan Kam. It’s not every day you see a goaltender earn a shutout, let alone make 40 saves or more to earn a shutout. In this game, two goaltenders did so. Chance generation was far from the problem, with Yale and North Shore earning three powerplays apiece in the 65-minute game, and with the total shots on goal ending 42-41 in North Shore’s favour. The game traversed three periods and overtime scoreless, earning both Milanov and Kam a shutout. Despite that, only one goaltender could earn the win. Milanov’s perfection continued, going 3/3 in the shootout, and Matteo Paradiso scored the lone goal with North Shore’s last shot to earn the 1-0 win.
RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (7) vs Notre Dame (6) U15
RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg’s U15 team has been through a difficult month, and four losses over last weekend alone, all at the hands of Edge School U15, would have lit quite the fire under RHA Winnipeg heading into this weekend’s series with Notre Dame, with the first of three games going Friday night. The lead changed five times in the game, with defenceman Nate Skrabyk scoring his first of the season to open things out, followed by two goals from RHA Winnipeg’s Kelson Hawreluik, and a power play goal from Beck Van Kemenade (1G, 1A). On the opposing side, Notre Dame’s Jax Baumuller (2G, 3A) led the way, scoring five points, including providing assists to Kael Motuz on both of his two goals. Notre Dame led 5-4 through two periods of play, but Hawreliuk’s second of the game pulled RHA Winnipeg back to level, followed by a shorthanded tally from Max Xing (1G, 1A) to give his team the lead. Owen Hirst (1G, 1A) made it 7-5 on the power play, and while Motuz’s second of the night made it a one-goal game late, RHA Winnipeg held on for the victory.
Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (4) vs Shawnigan Lake School (3) U18 Prep
Pacific Coast Hockey Academy beat St. George’s school 4-1 in the second of their two-game series last Sunday, a crucial bounce-back after the 7-2 loss the previous evening. Their final game of the month brought a matchup against Shawnigan Lake School that saw Shawnigan race out to a two-goal lead after the first period, thanks to goals from Weston Ebrahim and Nigel Alberts. Alberts scored his second of the game early in the second period to extend the Shawnigan Lake lead to 3-0, and put his team in control, thanks in part to Will Stonehouse stopping everything he faced in the game’s first half. Just past the midway point of the second period, PCHA earned the game’s first powerplay. Maxwell Hoey scored on the man advantage to make it 3-1, starting a trend. Following Hoey’s powerplay goal, Shawnigan’s Ebrahim was the next to take a penalty, and Trace Anderson took advantage, scoring on the ensuing powerplay. It took seven seconds after Anderson’s goal for PCHA to hop on a third consecutive powerplay, and even less time from there to score. Roman Lavery struck six seconds into the powerplay to tie the game up at three, the score it would stay until just shy of the halfway point of the third period. Elliott Hill (1G, 1A) broke through, scoring PCHA’s first five-on-five goal of the game at the best possible time. Sam Saskiw came into the game at the start of the second period, and in his 40 minutes, made 23 saves on 24 shots to lead his team to the come-from-behind 4-3 win.Ìý

Northern Alberta Xtreme’s undefeated February in the U15 Prep division has been in the form of consistently solid performances, with Delta Hockey Academy looking primed to be the latest to test NAX. An early cross-checking penalty to Delta’s Brady Oatman presented NAX with a golden early chance, capitalized on by Riley Brown to make it 1-0. NAX took less than five minutes to double the lead, thanks to Cruz Jim’s goal, putting Delta in a two-goal hole. Tripp Fisher (1G, 1A) scored later in the first period to cut the lead in half, the score would stay that way until late in the third period. Peter Banicevic (1G, 1A) was able to score with 61 seconds left in the third period to send the game to overtime, but unfortunately for Delta, the comeback wouldn’t earn them anything better than that. Kalen Miles scored 2:12 into the extra frame, with NAX winning their second consecutive game in overtime.Ìý
South Alberta Hockey Academy (3) vs Shawnigan Lake School (4) Female U18 Prep
Shawnigan Lake School’s clash with the South Alberta Hockey Academy was seemingly a tale of two games; the second period, and everything else. Teylor Crocker scored a goal in the first period and a goal in the third period for SAHA, but unfortunately, Shawnigan’s second period was too much for SAHA to handle. Eden Hamel (1G, 1A), Esme LiChong, Grace Cooper, and Leah Hill scored second-period goals for Shawnigan Lake, and from there, Alix Walchuk was able to shut the door for her team and earn the win. Shawnigan’s victory was the first loss suffered by SAHA since OHA Edmonton beat them back on December 6.Ìý
STAR Hockey Academy (3) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (2) U15 Prep
STAR Hockey Academy’s U15 Prep squad had won their first four games of February heading into last Sunday’s game against PCHA, which despite the fact they’d bested their opponents 8-1 the previous day, they lost 4-3. The defeat was the lone loss for STAR in the month, and unfortunately for them, the start of Friday’s game picked up where the loss against PCHA left off. Athens Shingoose (1G, 1A) scored merely 25 seconds into the game to give RHA Winnipeg the early lead, which they’d hold through one. Zakhar Kovalenko scored in the second for STAR to tie things up, with the two sides playing a razor-thin game at five-on-five. Three consecutive minor penalties by STAR at the start of the third period curated both of the two goals scored in the third, first through Levi Ellingsen, who gave STAR their first lead of the hockey game shorthanded. RHA Winnipeg, and specifically their powerplay, managed to bounce back in a big way just over five minutes later. Shingoose, this time, played set-up, and Brady Filmon scored on the man advantage to tie the game 2-2. The goal sent the game to overtime, and subsequently a shootout, but it was ultimately STAR who prevailed, thanks to Levi Ellingsen’s shootout winner.Ìý
Bourget College Varsity (4) vs North Shore Warriors Female (0) U18 Prep
Bourget College Varsity’s Female U18 Prep team did an excellent job in the first two games of their guest appearance in the showcase this weekend in Winnipeg. Although they’d suffer a loss early on Friday at the hands of OHA Edmonton, they’d bounce back in the second game of the day. After a scoreless opening twenty minutes, Kassandra Lombardo gave Bourget College the lead over North Shore just 48 seconds into the second period. Madison Levesque added a second before the end of the second period, and in the third period, Bourget did an excellent job of controlling the game. They outshot the Warriors 15-4 in the third period, and added two goals, with Laurence Foster and Ann-Sophie Beaumont putting the game out of North Shore’s reach.Ìý
North Shore Warriors (1) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (7) U17 Prep
RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna’s fight for second place in the U17 Prep division has never been an easy one, with third-place Delta Hockey Academy right on RHA Kelowna’s heels. From the start of the game, North Shore’s threat to their opposition was less significant than they’d have hoped, and RHA Kelowna left the first period ahead by a pair of goals and with a 19-2 edge in shots on goal. They’d build on their lead after that, with Rhett Tubello (3G, 1A) and Preston Kelly-Paquet (1G, 2A) leading the way for an RHA Kelowna team that outshot the Warriors 58-18 by the end of a game that ended 7-1.Ìý
Okanagan Hockey Academy (1) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (5) U15
The third of three consecutive head-to-head games between Okanagan Hockey Academy and RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna provided the former with the opportunity to beat their opponents for a third straight game, and the latter with the opportunity to not just earn some revenge against a team who beat them twice last weekend, but also earn their first victory since January 10. Austin Schultz scored twice for RHA Kelowna in the first period, giving his team a 2-0 lead after a first period that saw his team outshot 15-9 in the first twenty minutes. Despite OHA turning the pressure up yet another notch in the second period, RHA Kelowna goaltender Lucas Kautz stood tall, following up his perfect first period with 16 saves on 16 second-period shots. RHA Kelowna added two more goals in the second period, and Oliver Barras scored in the first minute of the third, to help see his team to a 5-1 victory. Lucas Kautz made 44 saves in RHA Kelowna’s first win of the month.Ìý
Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (6) vs Notre Dame (1) U17 Prep
There was a turning point between Pilot Mound Hockey Academy and Notre Dame in their Friday evening game, and unfortunately for Notre Dame, it was PMHA who wrestled control of the game after the first intermission. The first twenty minutes ended with the score tied at 1-1 and the shots even at 13-13, thanks to Lewis Brown for Notre Dame and Gavin Noseworthy for PMHA finding the back of the net. From the beginning of the second period and on, PMHA suffocated Notre Dame. Four consecutive second-period power plays for PMHA helped in their offensive zone possession and shot generation, with Collin Friedrich scoring after six minutes to give Pilot Mound their first lead. In the second half of the game, PMHA didn’t give Notre Dame a chance, and thanks to Jack Perrier’s hat trick, Pilot Mound managed to stretch things into a 6-1 victory.Ìý
Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (2) vs Shawnigan Lake School (12) U15 Prep
Shawnigan Lake School isn’t likely to play a more productive first period than the one they played when they took on the visiting Wenatchee Wild U15 Prep side, outshooting their opposition by an 18-1 margin in a first period that saw them score six goals, including a hat-trick from Asher Devries (3G, 3A), who was Shawnigan’s top performer throughout. Lucas Partridge-Mather scored the only goal of the second period, stretching Shawnigan’s lead to seven, before Wenatchee would mister a pair of early third-period power play goals to, at least temporarily, make the scoreline look marginally more acceptable. That was short-lived, though, and five goals to close out the third period from Shawnigan Lake put an exclamation point on the double-digit victory.Ìý
Notre Dame (4) vs OHA Edmonton (5) U17
Notre Dame and OHA Edmonton’s Friday night game started as a special teams shootout, with three of the four first-period goals scored on the power play. Landon Sokoloski (2G, 1A) scored two first-period power play goals for Notre Dame, while Clark Schneider (1G, 2A) had a goal on an OHA Edmonton man advantage. Jaxon Moss (1G, 1A) opened the second period for OHA Edmonton, but on a power play short thereafter, they’d suffer a blow in the form of a shorthanded goal, scored by Luke White for Notre Dame. As the game marched into the final three minutes of the second period tied 3-3, OHA Edmonton scored twice in the closing stages, first through Rylan Ross (2G, 1A) before Osten Strickland extended the lead to 5-3. Notre Dame clawed back within one late in the third period, with Brandon Thompson scoring on the power play, but they couldn’t get any closer, and OHA Edmonton held on for the 5-4 win.
Edge School (3) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (2) U18 Prep
An Edge penalty 36 seconds in paved the way for Gavin Lesiuk to open the scoring for SAHA on the power play 1:37 into the game. Adam M’hamed (2G) tied the game just a few minutes later, scoring an unassisted marker for Edge. Ty Krooshoop (1G, 1A) put SAHA back in front 8:13 into the second but M’hamed once again evened the score, this time just 23 seconds later while shorthanded. The game remained tied and destined for overtime until Nathan Cole scored on the power play with 16 seconds remaining as Edge grabbed their first lead of the game in the dying seconds. Leif Oaten (31/33) shut the door the remaining 32 minutes to secure the win for Edge. Mattias Radke (38/41) stopped 38 shots, including a Brock England penalty shot attempt in the second.Ìý
Delta Hockey Academy (4/OT) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (3) U17 Prep
Jack Morgan (2G) opened the scoring just 25 seconds in but Ben Fragle evened the score 47 seconds later with his seventh of the year. Delta would regain the lead later in the period as Morgan struck for the second time Friday evening. Wyatt Callander scored the lone second period goal as Delta doubled their lead heading into the third period. But OHA proved why they’re the number one seed in the division as Landon Nagle (2G) scored twice in a span of 3:17 to tie the game and force overtime. However, third ranked Delta would secure the upset win as Treyce Pavlic (1G, 2A) undressed an OHA defender before beating Charlie Peppinck (16/20) on a partial break for the game winner 2:05 into the extra frame. Matthew Wong (29/32) was credited with 29 saves in the win.Ìý
St. George’s School (3) vs BWC Academy (1) U18 Prep
With just one second left in the first period defenseman Brock Cripps scored his sixth goal of the season while on the power play to give St. George’s a lead heading into the intermission. Sam Auld would double the lead 5:02 into the second with his 17th of the year. William Shepard got BWC Academy on the board and within one 9:06 later, beating Cash Christie (32/33) for his fifth of the year. It would remain a one goal game until the final seconds when Eddy Spytz (1G, 1A) added an empty net goal to secure the St. George’s victory. Noah Sinagowitz (34/36) made 34 saves in the loss.
