RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (2) vs Edge School (4) U15 Prep Western Championships
Charlie Tobin provided all the offence for Edge School in their 4-2 win over RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna. After a scoreless first period, Bronson Lamontagne (2G) put home a rebound on the power play to give RHA Kelowna the lead early in the second. Edge’s Charlie Tobin (4G) took over for the rest of the period, scoring a natural hat trick. Tobin started off his barrage of goals with a forehand to backhand move on a breakaway to tie the game at one. Tobin scored the go-ahead goal midway through the period with Max Renseth making a great backhand feed from behind the net. Tobin turned the trick on the man advantage, firing a shot through the five-hole. RHA Kelowna wouldn’t quit with Lamontagne tipping a point shot home to cut their deficit in half. Kaidyn Thomas (26/28) stood tall the rest of the way, stopping nine shots in the final frame. Tobin added some insurance for Edge, scoring an empty-net goal in the final minute. Remy Koch (2A) and Dylan Sherban (2A) each had a pair of assists for Edge. Thomas made 26 saves in Edge’s victory. Dylan Mingo (30/33) turned aside 30 shots for RHA Kelowna. Both teams will finish off the round robin tomorrow with Edge facing off against RHA Winnipeg and RHA Kelowna taking on the Northern Alberta Xtreme.Ìý
Shawnigan Lake School (1) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (4) U15 Prep Division II Western Championships
Matteo Greico’s two-goal game helped Pilot Mound Hockey Academy get a 4-1 victory over Shawnigan Lake School. Cole Landreville (1G, 1A) opened the scoring for Pilot Mound on a give-and-go with Maddox Ramage 5:27 into the game. Pilot Mound doubled their lead with Fynn Huberdeau scoring on a rebound to give Pilot Mound a two-goal advantage heading into the room. 57 seconds into the second, Matteo Greico (2G) took advantage of another rebound chance off a Kai Dingwall shot extending Pilot Mound’s lead to 3-0. Later in the frame, Lucas Partridge-Mather point shot found its way through traffic on the power play for Shawnigan’s lone goal of the contest. Pilot Mound had a strong finish to the period. Greico got his second of the game with seven seconds left, finishing off a three-way passing play. Gavin Hildebrand (26/27) shut the door for Pilot Mound, stopping 26 of the 27 shots he faced in the win. Berkeley Walter (32/36) kicked out 32 shots for Shawnigan. Shawnigan finishes with an 0-2 record in round robin play. Pilot Mound concludes their round robin schedule against the Notre Dame Hounds tomorrow.Ìý
North Shore Warriors (2) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (5) U15 Prep Division II Western Championships
A four-goal outburst in the first period helped Okanagan Hockey Academy beat the North Shore Warriors 5-2. OHA had a great start, scoring three times in the first 5:13 of the game. Zack Griffiths gave OHA the lead just over three minutes in, jamming home a loose puck in the crease. Gage Mark (2G) and Brysten Campbell (1G, 1A) extended OHA’s lead to 3-0 with two goals that came 12 seconds apart. Mark scored on the man advantage, firing a wrist shot that beat North Shore’s goaltender on the blocker side. Off the ensuing faceoff, Campbell shovelled in a puck that was sitting out in front, forcing a goalie change for North Shore. That wouldn’t stop OHA’s offensive attack. Mark finished off the four-goal frame by sliding a backhand past the outstretched pad of the North Shore netminder. Riley Taylor got one back for North Shore late in the second on a partial breakaway, firing a wrist shot to the far side. Early in the third, Nathan Marques (1G, 1A) took advantage of a defensive zone turnover by North Shore to restore OHA’s four-goal lead. North Shore’s William Thompson (1G, 1A) closed out the scoring on a power play, finding a loose puck and sliding it in. Brayden Unruh (27/29) turned aside 27 of the 29 shots he faced for OHA. Elias Mitrikas (36/38) made 36 saves in relief for North Shore. North Shore closes out the robin robin with a 1-1 record. OHA faces Pacific Coast Hockey Academy tomorrow.Ìý
STAR Hockey Academy (2/OT) vs St. George’s School (1) U15 Prep Western Championships
Erik Sims’ 38-save performance powered STAR Hockey Academy to a 2-1 overtime win over St. George’s School. STAR took control of the contest with the lone goal of the opening period. Lincoln Angst (1G, 1A) swatted the puck forward to Levi Ellingsen who slammed a slap shot into the top corner. St. George’s pushed back in the second, sending 18 shots toward Erik Sims (38/39) in the STAR net. St. George’s Holden Wouters evened the game up with a shorthanded marker, making a move to get around his defender before putting the puck over the shoulder of Sims. St. George’s Kole Anderosov (30/32) and STAR’s Sims took center stage in the third with Sims turning aside 15 shots and Anderosov stopping 12 shots to send the game to overtime. It didn’t take long to find a winner in the extra frame. Daniel Makovetskiy slid a deft backhand feed through two defenders to set up Angst who snuck his shot past the glove of Anderosov. Anderosov made 30 saves in St. George’s loss. STAR concludes the round robin with an overtime win and an overtime loss. St. George’s will face BWC Academy tomorrow.Ìý
Yale Hockey Academy (2) vs OHA Edmonton (5) U15 Prep Western Championships
Chayse Fedoriuk’s three-point effort propelled OHA Edmonton to a 5-2 victory over Yale Hockey Academy. The two teams started off the scoring in the second period, trading power play goals. Nicholas Voinea gave Yale the lead midway through the period, finding a loose puck in the slot and capitalizing on the opportunity. Josh Frazer (1G, 1A) responded for OHA Edmonton, roofing a backhand after a slick cross-ice pass from Chayse Fedoriuk (1G, 2A). Just over a minute into the third, OHA Edmonton grabbed their first lead of the contest. Sutton Hodgetts (1G, 1A) made no mistake after being sprung on a breakaway by a long stretch feed from Jackson Konelsky. Midway through the period, OHA Edmonton broke the game open with a pair of goals from Brayden Tucker (1G, 1A) and Anderson Reschny (1G, 1A) that came 47 seconds apart. Tucker and Reschny both picked on the blocker side on their goals. Yale cut the deficit to two with just under three minutes to go. Parker McMillan came streaking down the wing and scored on a shot to the far side. Fedoriuk sealed OHA Edmonton’s win, putting the puck into an empty-net with 1:28 left. Owen Amyotte (27/29) made 27 saves for OHA Edmonton. Yale’s Gavin Craig (31/35) turned aside 31 shots. Yale finishes round robin play with a loss in regulation and a shootout loss. OHA Edmonton closes out their round robin schedule with a matchup against Delta Hockey Academy tomorrow.Ìý
Delta Hockey Academy Black (5) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (0) Female U18 Prep Division II Western Championships
Highlighted by a 44-save shutout by Nicole Flesher, Delta Black was able to cruise to victory in their first game at the Western Championships. In front of Flesher, there was no shortage of offence when the opportunities arose as Delta Black went 3/3 on the powerplay. Alexis Vary (1G, 1A) scored the opening and lone goal of the first. Alexis Howitt would resume the scoring in the second with a sharp angled snipe from the bottom left corner while Hayley Waugh capped off the scoring in the second with 31-seconds on the clock. Kaylyn Hawas and Kinleigh Blane would nab an extra two for Delta Black in the third, adding extra cushioning to their win.
Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (3) vs North Shore Warriors (5) Female U18 Prep Division II Western Championships
Grace MacDonald (1G, 1A) roofed one upstairs to ignite the scoring in favour of North Shore just past the seven minute mark of the first period. Gemma Han doubled the Warrior’s lead a couple minutes later off a spectacular solo effort before slipping one five hole. Gia Carella (1G, 1A) made things 3-0 early in the second, but Pilot Mound would begin to show some push back. Traeh Hall and Jayden Quinn would score 14-seconds apart to erase the three goal advantage the Warriors had established. However, a point shot from Jaylah Bottle would go top shelf to restore a two goal lead for North Shore a few minutes later. Addison Scoville would keep the Buffaloes alive after finding her own rebound a mere two minutes later but Elise Miller (1G, 1A) would once again put the Warriors back ahead by two, stuffing home Lily Zohner’s (2A) initial shot before the end of the frame. The third would remain scoreless as Haylie Hedges (24/27) turned aside all seven Pilot Mound shots in the frame, backing the Warriors to their first win of the 2025 Western Championships.
