GAME DAY RECAP: October 6, 2024

Mount Academy (2) vs Okanagan Hockey Ontario (4) Eastern U17

A shorthanded goal by Nathaniel St. Pierre Maltais (2G) gave Mount a 1-0 lead 5:29 into the game. Tanner Swirla (3G) tied the game 10 minutes later and then scored the lone second period goal, on the power play, to put OHO ahead going into the final 20. Alexander Grezlovski scored 2:14 into the third and Swirla added his second 20 seconds later as OHO took a 4-1 lead. St. Pierre Maltais would score a power play goal midway through the third but Logan Cucan (29/31) finished with 29 saves, including 14 in the third, to secure the 4-2 Okanagan Hockey Ontario victory.听

Edge School (3) vs St. Mary’s Academy (0) Female U18 Prep

A 30 save shutout performance from Jenna Ring (30/30) gave Edge School a 3-0 win over St. Mary鈥檚. After a scoreless first Abby Lee scored the game winning goal 11:21 into the second period. Olivia Imperato (1G, 1A) scored 11 seconds into the third and Brooklyn Deck added her third of the season 4:20 later. Sasha Coutu (29/32) made 29 saves in the loss.听

South Alberta Hockey Academy (2) vs Balmoral Hall School (3/SO) Female U18 Prep

Keyana Bert scored 2:29 into the game as SAHA led after 20. Maddie Kaiser tied the game on the power play 12:49 into the second with her seventh goal of the year. Sara Stefanic restored the SAHA lead 2:57 into the third but Madeline McKay鈥檚 eighth goal of the year with 2:08 remaining sent the game to overtime, and eventually, a shootout. Emma Power would score in the fifth round and Lauren Cherkas (44/46) stopped four of five SAHA shooters to give Balmoral the 3-2 win. Hannah Palumbo (21/23) made 21 saves in the loss.听

Ontario Hockey Academy (2) vs Fairmont Hockey (4) Eastern U18

Lance McCloskey (1G, 1A) scored his third goal of the weekend 3:10 into the game to give his team a 1-0 lead. OHA would tie the game on the power play when netminder Oliver Kiraly (37/41, 1A) sprung Jeremy St. Louis (1G, 1A) for a breakaway where he made no mistake on the move to his backhand. Danny Kananga gave OHA their first lead 10:13 into the second but Brody Stager replied just 1:02 later for Fairmont. Timothy Greenleaf would bury a rebound 2:53 into the third to put Fairmont ahead and Jonathan Gomez scored a power play goal less than three minutes later to add an insurance marker. Beckham Brossard (26/28) made 26 saves while Cole Bieksa (3A), son of former NHLer Kevin, added three assists for Fairmont in the win.听

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (13) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (2) U17 Prep

Joshua Johnstone (3G, 2A) recorded a hat-trick and Logan Lanti (1G, 4A) added five points to tie for the team lead as RHA Kelowna defeated Wenatchee 13-2. Every single RHA Kelowna skater recorded at least one point in the win while Kai Ebert (17/19) made 17 saves in net. Dylan Hadley and Camden Masterson scored for Wenatchee in the loss.听

Edge School (10) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (0) U15 Prep

Edge outshot Pilot Mound 61-10 en route to a 10-0 win Sunday. Keagan Grant (2G), Remy Koch (2G) and Ellis Martschuk (2G, 2A) all scored twice while defenseman Ethan Parkinson (5A) led all skaters with five points. Kaidyn Thomas (10/10) and Gavin Hildebrand (51/61) were in net for their respective teams.听

Edge School (5) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (8) U17 Prep

Jamie Kirwan (1G, 1A) scored 5-on-5, Seamus Dillon shorthanded, and Nixon Friesen (1G, 1A) on the power play as Prairie grabbed a 3-0 lead in the first period. Chase McNamara (1G, 1A) would counter 1:04 later with a power play goal of his own for Edge. Liam Lacey (2G) and Andrew Ragusa tied the game just 4:19 into the second but goals from Ramsey Thompson and Kade Kahovec put Prairie ahead going into the third. Thompson would score his second power play goal of the game to extend the lead midway through the third. Kyle Oakenfold (1G, 1A) and Ethan Unger (1G, 1A) traded goals 15 seconds apart before Lacey and Hogan Hickman (1G, 2A) swapped goals in the final two minutes.听

Northern Alberta Xtreme (3) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (4) U17 Prep

William Matte (2G) scored the lone first period goal and found the back of the net early in the second as CIHA led 2-0. Bronsyn Mouille and Emmett Jones scored 57 seconds apart just minutes later to tie the game heading into the third. Tyrie Ehrenberg (1G, 1A) gave NAX their first lead 7:52 into the third but Declan Cardiff and Aedan McCarry scored 3:13 apart to put CIHA on top in a 4-3 win. Braxton Gibson (23/26) made 23 saves to earn the win.听

Delta Hockey Academy Green (1) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (3) Female U18 Prep

Molly Cole scored the lone Delta Green goal 12:50 into the opening period. Linnea Misner tied the game with the only goal of the second period. Anezka Cabelova scored 35 seconds into the third and Emery Twardochleb extended the advantage 3:26 later. Ava Drabyk (17/18) made five third period saves as RHA Kelowna held on for the 3-1 win. Maisie Cope (30/33) made 30 saves in net for Delta Green in the loss.听

OHA Edmonton (3) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (6) U17 Prep

SAHA led 2-1 after 20 as Karter Kurpjuweit (2G) and Noah Alexander (1G, 1A) each scored while Keenan Fox replied for OHA Edmonton. Jevyn Singh (1G, 1A) scored the lone second period goal to even the score going into the final 20. A power play goal by Liam Green put SAHA ahead though Cash Brebant countered minutes later for OHA Edmonton. Tied 3-3, SAHA would score 3 goals in the final 4:36 as Carson Ward scored the game winner and Kutcher Aquila and Kurpjuweit added insurance markers.听

North Shore Warriors (2) vs Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy (1) U17

After a scoreless first 20 Noah Russo scored his sixth of the season midway through the second to give North Shore the lead heading into the third. Will Given tied the game with a power play marker but Rock Oosterveld scored six minutes later and Erik Blair (19/20) made 19 saves as North Shore grabbed a 2-1 win. Morgan Hyndman (42/44) made 42 saves in the loss.听

Kuper Academy (8) vs CIH Academy (1) Eastern U17

Kareem Baig-Mirza (3G, 2A) and Michel Paliotti (3G, 3A) paced the Kuper offence in an 8-1 win over CIH Academy. Donato Padula (30/31) made 30 saves while Luca Guadagnino and Dimitri Tsimberis (1G, 1A) scored the other Kuper goals. Kenshin Saito scored the lone CIH Academy goal in the loss.听

Shawnigan Lake School (1) vs STAR Hockey Academy (5) U15 Prep

Goals from Zakhar Kovalenko and Levi Ellingsen (1G, 1A) put STAR ahead after 20. Dylan Gale added a power play marker for the lone goal of the second period. Braxton Baker (1G, 1A) scored a power play goal 51 seconds into the third before Cole Van Oene broke the Erik Sims (23/24) shutout bid with 12 minutes remaining. Daniel Makovetskiy (1G, 1A) added a late goal for STAR to round out the scoring.听

Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy (1) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (6) U18 Prep

Eli Tverdovsky opened the scoring 3:03 in and Cohen Williams (1G, 1A) extended the lead midway through the period. Caden Stoltz would get CDA on the board and within one going into the second with a goal 1:25 after Williams. Caleb Bedard and Tucker Robertson (2G, 1A) would score in the second while Robertson and Charlie Grant found the back of the net as OHA scored four unanswered en route to a 6-1 win. Chayse Johnson (29/30) made 29 saves for the win while Bennett Byers (46/52) faced 52 shots in the loss.听

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (6) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (3) U18 Prep

Benjamin Bowtell (1G, 2A)听 and Dominik Silbernagel scored 5:11 apart to put RHA Kelowna ahead in the first. Cameron Kimmerly (3G) got Wenatchee on the board a few minutes later but Mathis Paull (2G, 2A)听 quickly countered 1:01 later with a short handed marker. Paull would score the lone second period goal and Aidan Fisher and Luke Silvernagle scored third period goals to give RHA Kelowna a commanding 6-1 lead. Kimmerly would give RHA Kelowna a late scare as he scored twice in the final four minutes to complete the hat-trick but ultimately his individual efforts weren鈥檛 enough.听

Northern Alberta Xtreme (5) vs Edge School (2) U17

Edge outshot NAX 43-26 but it was NAX who came out on top 5-2 thanks to a 41 save effort from Lenox Alanen (41/43). Jacob Collins (2G, 1A) and Rylan Saunders traded first period goals before Kegan Power and Collins put NAX ahead midway through the second. Darius Odermatt brought Edge within one late in the second but Cassius McDonald and Seth Kshyk (1G, 1A) scored third period markers to give NAX the win.听

Northern Alberta Xtreme (8) vs Notre Dame (1) U15 Prep

Brady Ondrus (3G) and Easton Arndt (1G, 2A) and Riley Brown (1G, 2A) each added three points. Defenseman Liam Bird scored the lone goal for Notre Dame, beating Karter Gibson (18/19) with 9:20 left to end the shutout bid.听

Yale Hockey Academy (3) vs Delta Hockey Academy (7) U17 Prep

Luke Anderson scored just 34 seconds in and Caden Leibel (2G, 2A) added a goal of his own less than a minute later as Delta stormed out the gate to a 2-0 lead 1:26 in. Gavin Selinger (2G) scored 2:15 later for Yale but Leibel responded 1:01 later. Selinger听 brought Yale back within one but Delta quickly responded again, this time Jack Morgan 20 seconds later. Cortland LeMieux extended the lead 1:21 in on the power play before Seth Catronuovo (1G, 1A) and Luke Anderson (2G, 2A) traded goals to close out the period. Wyatt Callander (1G, 3A) scored the lone third period goal to round out the scoring.听

North Shore Warriors (3) vs Shawnigan Lake School (2) U18 Prep

A power play goal by Vincent Croteau 4:59 in gave Shawnigan the initial lead but Matteo Paradiso countered 24 seconds later. Koen Gauthier restored the Shawnigan lead 2:35 later with his second of the season. Ashton Beriana and Dominic Seminoff scored 57 seconds apart late in the period to put North Shore ahead. Georgi Milanov (37/39) and Will Stonehouse (46/49) would keep clean sheets through the final 40 resulting in a 3-2 North Shore win.听

STAR Hockey Academy (7) vs North Shore Warriors (5) U17 Prep

In a high scoring affair, STAR Hockey Academy would get the early jump, going up as high as 5-2 in the early stages of the second. Chase Vossenaar (3G) would trim down STAR鈥檚 lead with a pair of goals in the latter half of the middle frame but a pair from Aleks Ostrovskyy (2G) would keep STAR in front. Vossenaar would complete his hat-trick in the third but it was not enough to surmount STAR. Each goaltender faced 50 or more shots with Sam Trnecka (45/50) coming out on top with a 45-save performance in the win.

Edge School (6) vs OHA Edmonton (2) U18 Prep

Scoring a pair in the first period, AJ Tarnowski (2G, 1A) laid the groundwork for Edge. Mirco Dufour would add another in the second to increase Edge School鈥檚 lead to 4-0 before Calum Giese stopped the bleeding late in the frame. However, Edge would go on to pot another deuce to ensure their victory. Ryley Budd (33/35) picked up the win in goal, making a grand total of 33-saves.

South Alberta Hockey Academy (3) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (6) U18 Prep

A busy first period saw NAX run away with a 4-2 lead through twenty. Scoring would pause in the second before picking up once again in the third where NAX鈥檚 Gavin Harrison (2G) would net the backbreaker early into the frame. Nolan Phare would quickly follow and add one more to NAX鈥橲 lead. SAHA would push hard, piling on 17-shots in the third but would only come away with one more tally. In the end, NAX鈥檚 Nate Stevens (46/49) made a remarkable 46-saves in the W.

Notre Dame (4) vs Indigenous Sports Academy (7) U17 Prep

Jace Boman (2G, 2A) would ignite the scoring for Notre Dame in this contest but a late three goal burst from ISA late in the first would spin the odds into their favour, scoring thrice in only 2:13, including a buzzer beater from Owen Sinclair (2G). Trigger Two Guns (2G) would add another in the second for ISA before each team would go tic-for-tac in the third, scoring three goals a piece. Two Guns and Sinclair each skated off with a pair of goals for ISA while Boman chipped in on each of Notre Dame鈥檚 goals.

BWC Academy (1) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (2/OT) U17

With an early tally in the first, Bradley Keightley got RHA Kelowna on the board with his fourth of the season. Scoring would take a hiatus in the second, with Liam Kellett (40/42) and William Stewart (27/28) picking up 8 and 10-saves respectively. It wasn鈥檛 until the late stages of the third with the goalie pulled did Jaxen McFegan round up the game at 1-1 with 2:49 left on the clock. In overtime, Stewart would make four key saves before Nixon Whieldon netted the game winner, sealing up RHA Kelowna鈥檚 weekend in the win column.

Yale Hockey Academy (2) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (5) U18 Prep

Ilija Majkic (1G, 1A) granted Yale the early lead with a powerplay goal in the first, but a buzzer beater from PCHA鈥檚 Trace Anderson (2G, 2A) gave Yale something to think about heading into the dressing room. Anderson would add another in the second for PCHA to give them their first lead of the contest. Into the final frame, Jed Lake (2G) would boost PCHA鈥檚 lead to three after netting a pair, eventually turning into the GWG and the insurance marker in a Sunday win. Sam Saskiw (36/38) would backstop PCHA to the win, making 36-saves in the process for their fourth win of the campaign.

North Shore Warriors (7) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (3) Female U18 Prep

Kamloops, BC defender Jaylah Bottle (2G, 1A) provided the game changing offence from the blueline for North Shore, potting two and securing three-points en route to victory. Kaida Okamura (1G, 2A) would also supply three points in the win while Haylie Hedges (19/22) clinched her fifth consecutive victory as a starter with NSW.

OHA Edmonton (9) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (2) U15 Prep

After surrendering a powerplay and a shorthanded goal to RHA Winnipeg in quick succession, OHA Edmonton would bounce back and take the lead before the end of the first. From this point on, OHA Edmonton wouldn鈥檛 look back, scoring six unanswered to polish off their weekend in Wilcox, SK. Sutton Hodgetts (2G, 2A) and Chayse Fedoriuk secured four-points a piece while 2011-born forward Micah Montgomery (1G, 2A) snatched up three-points.

BWC Academy (4) vs Shawnigan Lake School (2) U17 Prep

Kayden Pratt opened the scoring for BWC Academy in the first. This lead would increase in the second after Ayden Saran and Ryan Fox (2G) nabbed another two. Shawnigan would show some life in the second as Samuel Wilson (2G) potted two. With the empty net, Shawnigan would continue to push but would surrender an EN goal to Fox. Jeevin Sandhu (26/28) picked up the win in the crease, making 26-saves in the win.听

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (2) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (4) U15 Prep

Bronson Lamontagne (2G) netted the first goal of the match for RHA Kelowna but a quick response late in the frame from OHA put them in front. Ryder Young (1G, 1A) would add to OHA鈥檚 lead in the second for the eventual game winner while Talon Scinocca (1G, 2A) added the insurance marker in the third. Maddox Slater (25/27) picked up the win in the goalmouth while Gunner Podollan (38/42) made 38-saves for RHA Kelowna in the loss.

Prairie Hockey Academy (5) vs Notre Dame (3) U18 Prep

Coming off of a six-point performance, Henry Thunderblanket (1G, 1A) potted PHA鈥檚 first goal of the afternoon. PHA would build off this initial tally with two more early goals from Noah Kelly and Grant Giliege. Notre Dame would sneak in two over the next portion of the contest, but Benson Hirst (1G, 1A) would supply a late goal in the second that would go on to be the game winner. Notre Dame鈥檚 Jack Hunter (63/68) still made a remarkable total of 63-saves on the afternoon.
