GAME DAY RECAP: September 27, 2024

King’s Edgehill School (4) vs Ulysse Academie (2) Eastern U18

Liam Nash and Daniel Smyth scored 58 seconds apart late in the first to give KES a 2-0 lead. After a scoreless second, Alex Doyle scored on the power play 1:37 into the third to extend the KES advantage. Marc Yankov got Ulysse on the board 7:15 into the final frame but it was quickly countered by a Jack Sangster goal, his seventh of the young season. Marco Campo would add a power play goal for Ulysse 2:15 later but William Bridgeo (17/19) finished with 17 saves to secure a King鈥檚 Edgehill victory. Leonidas Barkoulas (50/54) faced 54 shots in net during the loss.听

North Shore Warriors (5) vs Notre Dame (1) U17 Prep

After a scoreless first Tobin Schaefer (2G) scored on the power play 9:55 into the second. He would score again five minutes later as North Shore led 2-0 after 40. Jace Boman got Notre Dame on the board 1:40 into the third but Chase Vossenaar (2G) halted any comeback plans just 17 seconds later. Samuel Shepard (1G, 1A) added a late empty net goal and Vossenaar would score again with 2:01 remaining to round out the scoring.听

Shawnigan Lake School (5) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (3) U17 Prep

Samuel Wilson scored just 9 seconds in and Richard Desilets II added a power play marker 4:03 later as Shawnigan raced out to an early 2-0 lead. Christian Caby got Pilot Mound on the board midway through the period before Ryder Kerr (1G, 2A) and Gavin Noseworthy traded late goals to close out the period. Callum Starnes (1G, 2A) extended the lead 12:31 into the second with his first goal of the season. Brody Wytinck (1G, 1A) would score a shorthanded goal minutes later to bring Pilot Mound within one but Phoenix Hinks (1G, 1A) scored on the same power play just four seconds later to put the game out of reach.听

Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (5/OT) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (4) Female U18 Prep

OHA Black grabbed a 2-0 lead on first period goals from Oliva Davidson and Christina Terzariol but Pilot Mound quickly responded with Bailee Allan (1G, 1A) and Ashlyn Kuffler (2G) finding the back of the net. Rebecca Macfarlane (2G) restored the OHA Black lead 10 seconds into the second but Kuffler tied the game with a power play marker midway through the frame. Macfarlane once again gave OHA Black the lead early in the third, but once again PMHA responded as Brooklyn Kraft (1G, 1A) scored her first of the season. The game would head to overtime where Alice Rapp was the hero for OHA Black, scoring 3:46 into the extra frame. Ryann Faulkner (65/69) made 65 saves in net for the win.听

Yale Hockey Academy (6) vs STAR Hockey Academy (1) U15 AAA

Yale started the game with five unanswered goals to claim a 6-1 win Friday. Connor Baines (2G, 2A) scored the lone first period goal while Max Ritchey (1G, 2A), Ben Bury (1G, 1A), Baines and Kaleb Newson (1G, 1A) all scored in the second. Huntley Keatley halted the run 2:20 into the third before Ryker Stevens put the game out of reach minutes later.听

Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (4) vs STAR Hockey Academy (2) U17 Prep

Each team scored a power play goal in the first as Will Sumner struck for STAR and Sean Strasser (1G, 1A) countered for Wenatchee. Adrian Afrakov added a power play goal of his own 3:50 into the second but Cooper Miller quickly responded for Wenatchee just 1:03 later to even things up. Erik Hendricks would give Wenatchee the lead just minutes later and a power play goal from Dylan Hadley doubled the Wenatchee lead going into the third. STAR would fire 14 shots at Liam Rogers (31/33) in the third, and 33 overall, but he would stand his ground to give Wenatchee the 4-2 win.听

Kuper Academy (4) vs Fort Erie International Academy (1) Eastern U17

Fort Erie led 1-0 just 2:36 in as Travis McDougall found the back of the net but it was all Kuper Academy from there as they would outshoot Fort Erie 51-21 en route to a 4-1 win. Tristan Lavigne (1G, 1A) tied the game late in the first with a power play marker and Gianfranco Capparelli (1G, 1A) scored the eventual game winner 4:17 into the second. Dimitri Tsimberis added a second period power play marker and Aadi Patel (1G, 1A) scored 2:57 into the third to put the game out of reach. Donato Padula (20/21) and Felix-Antoine Tessier (47/51) were in net for their respective teams.听

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (4) vs North Shore Warriors (2) U15 AAA

Hayden Carpenter and Cooper deWal (2G) scored 4:39 apart in the first as RHA Kelowna held a 2-0 advantage after 20. Trent Keenan extended the lead 8:36 into the second before Brody Watson got North Shore on the board with a power play tally. Keegan Hole scored 5:43 into the final frame as North Shore had clawed within one. But deWal would add an empty net goal with 52 seconds remaining to clinch a 4-2 RHA Kelowna victory.听

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (5) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (4) U15 Prep

After surrendering three early goals in the first, Pilot Mound would claw back through the next 40-minutes of play. Maddox Ramage would stop the bleeding in the first to cut the deficit to two, allowing Cole Landreville (2G) and Brock Vodden (1G, 2A) to match up the score in the second. In the final frame, Landreville would pot his second of the afternoon to put PMHA ahead. Connor Lamb (2G, 1A) would quickly erase Pilot Mounds lead. However, Hinata Hashimoto would put PMHA back in front just over a minute later, restoring their lead. As the clock ticked, Yuki Kido (53/57) would keep PMHA alive, making a staggering 53-saves to keep his squad alive and pick up the win in their season opener.

OHA Edmonton (6) vs St. George’s School (2) U17 Prep

Keenan Fox (2G) notched OHA Edmonton their first tally just 27-seconds into the match. However, St. George鈥檚 Byron Chin would restore the tie late in the frame. Entering the second, OHA Edmonton would pick up where they left off early on, scoring three unanswered to extend their lead to three. Noah Chen snuck one in for the Saints to cut their deficit in half, but another two in the third for OHA Edmonton sealed the win for the Alberta-based school. Aidan Prosser (42/44) made 42-saves in the win while Logan Miller (1G, 2A) and Jaggar John (1G, 2A) posted three point efforts.

Rink Hockey Academy Winnipeg (2) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (4) U15 AAA

After being down by two and being heavily outshot in through forty, PHA pulled up their socks and got to work in the third. Jakub Palmer got PHA on the board early and was quickly followed up by Ivey Vermeulen (2G) on the powerplay. Vermeulen would then go on to add the go-ahead goal on the powerplay just over 5-minutes later. RHA Winnipeg was firing all cylinders but couldn鈥檛 get one past Conner Aldag (44/46) in the late stages. Aldag would make 44-saves in the comeback victory for Prairie.

STAR Hockey Academy (2) vs Yale Hockey Academy (3) U15 Prep

Tony Cabelka got the ball rolling early for Yale, giving them the 1-0 lead through one. However, Daniel Makovetskiy would put Yale back on their heels, scoring 7-minutes into the second. Yale would remain calm after surrendering their initial lead and would go on to bury two in quick fashion to restore their advantage thanks to the efforts of Teagan Dernisky (1G, 1A) and Matthew Zaitchikov. Levi Ellingsen would cut STAR鈥檚 deficit in half thanks to a powerplay marker in the third but the solid goaltending from Gavin Craig (28/30) stole the win for Yale in the end.

BWC Academy (6) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (2) U15 Prep

Justin Moon put BWC Academy up in the first thanks to a strong display of skating and puck control. OHA would keep fighting after surrendering the opening goal as Dreyden Rayburn would cram one home to bring things back to even. However, two back-to-back goals early in the second would restore BWC Academy鈥檚 momentum heading forward. Chris Pellatt would bat one out of the air to give OHA another chance, but BWC Academy kept up the pressure from here on out. Maddox Slater (45/51) would make some massive stops to give OHA a chance in the third, but the steady performance of Bentley Edgar (28/30) kept BWC Academy in control. Edgar would make 28-stops in the win while six separate goal scorers hit the scoresheet for BWC Academy.

Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy (7) vs Indigenous Sports Academy (1) U17 Prep

Seven separate goal scorers hit the scoresheet for Coeur D鈥橝lene in their 7-1 victory over ISA while Quinton Wade (2A) and Preston Dalebout (2A) each provided two helpers. Alex Doyer (21/22) made 21-saves in the win, surrendering only one goal, which came off the stick of Kyler Anderson shorthanded.听

Edge School (5) vs Notre Dame (2) U15 Prep

A pair of goals from Edge in the first established a 2-0 lead but Notre Dame would strike back in the second with a duo of powerplay goals to even things up. However, with 5-seconds left in the frame, Edge鈥檚 Max Ranseth (1G, 1A) would bury the go-ahead goal to reinstate their lead. Keagan Grant (1G, 1A) would add another for Edge in the third which would go on to be the insurance marker in the Friday victory.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (2) vs OHA Edmonton (7) U17 AAA

In a low-shooting game, OHA Edmonton made the most of their opportunities, scoring seven times on only 31-shots. Kaiden Turta (2G) and Jayden Squissato (2G) would each pot a pair while Kaeleb Kassongo (1G, 2A) led the charge with three-points. Jaxon Ford (18/20) would pick up the win between the pipes.听

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (8) vs Indigenous Sports Academy (1) U18 Prep

River Arnason (3G, 1A) and Drayden Uhrina (4A) both reached four-points on the scoresheet in their dominating win over ISA. Furthermore, numbers 88 & 89 Anthony Bedard (2G, 1A) and Jake Ritson (2G, 1A) would both strike twice while Quinn Burfoot (26/27) turned aside 26-shots in the win. Caelen Cross would score the lone goal for ISA.

Okanagan Hockey Academy (3) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (5) U17 Prep

Isaac Sousa (2G, 1A) would bury a pair in the first for RHA Winnipeg to Trey Tourigny鈥檚 lone goal for OHA. The same 2-1 goal spread would be repeated in the second period, extending RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 lead to 4-2 after forty. Maxx Parfitt would get OHA to within one halfway through the third but a late tally from Knox Burton (1G, 1A) would seal up the win for RHA Winnipeg.

St. Mary鈥檚 High School (0) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (16) Female U18 Prep

Sara Gerdel (3G, 2A) and Brooklyn Blomquist (3G, 1A) supplied hat-tricks in OHA鈥檚 offensive showcase over St. Mary鈥檚. Jada Wood (2G, 3A) would also provide a five-point effort while Alex Recksy (1G, 3A) nabbed three assists. Jorja Moore (5/5) stopped five-shots for the shutout.

Edge School (3) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (7) U17 AAA

After being knotted up at one a piece after 40-minutes, Prairie Hockey Academy would explode for 6-goals in the final frame. Aiden Masse (2G) would strike first early on with a powerplay goal to get the ball rolling while Reid Kawaguchi (1G, 1A) would score just under a minute later to further extend PHA鈥檚 lead. Jonas Markwart (1G, 2A) would supply three-points in the frame while Colton Lutz (46/49) made an astounding 46-saves to ensure the comfortable victory.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (1) vs BWC Academy (2) U17 AAA

After trading goals in the second, it was shaping up to be a tightly knit third. PCHA would push their hardest but in the end BWC Academy鈥檚 Josiah Lacerte would net the eventual game winner. Liam Kellett was in goal for the victory.
