OHL Draft Sees Two Current, Two Former CSSHL Student-Athletes Selected

The Ontario Hockey League (OHL) held its annual Priority Selection Draft June 4-5, 2021 and four players with ties to the Canadian Sports School Hockey League heard their names called.

Current Notre Dame Hounds Thomas Chafe and Owen Thomas, along with former Hound JJ Franceschetti, and West Van Warriors alum Tayte Landry were all selected in this year’s draft.

Chafe was the first to hear his name called when he was taken in the third-round, 47th overall by the Owen Sound Attack. Originally from St. John’s NL, Chafe had 39 points in 30 U15 Prep games during the 2019/20 season. In six games at the U18 level, Chafe finished with four points in a COVID-19 shortened 2020/21 campaign.

Landry spent the 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons with the Warriors U15 and U15 Prep teams before returning out East to Toronto, ON for his draft year. In 59 CSSHL games the 6’4 defensemen scored 4 goals and added 19 assists. Landry was selected in the sixth round 109th overall by the North Bay Battalion.

Originally from Chicago, IL, Thomas joined Notre Dame’s U16 Prep team this season, playing in six games. The 6’4 defensemen scored once while recording six assists. Thomas was selected in the seventh round, 132nd overall by the Sarnia Sting.

Selected in the eighth round, 143rd overall by the Erie Otters, Franceschetti played for the Hounds U15 Prep team during the 2019/20 campaign. The Toronto, ON forward scored 16 goals to go along with 11 assists in 32 CSSHL games.
