PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY AND MISSION STATEMENT

OUR VISION

Athol Murray College of Notre Dame is committed to developing young men and women to become purposeful leaders with virtuous character.Ìý

OUR MISSION

Athol Murray College of Notre Dame provides an exceptional educational and boarding experience with a balance of strong academic, athletic and spiritual growth in a safe and caring prairie environment.

Notre Dame is located in Wilcox, SK and our first year in the CSSHL was 2016-17. Our first team was the U15 Prep Team and we now have teams in the U16 Prep, U17 Prep and U18 Prep Divisions.

EDUCATION

What are some of the things your program does to provide educational support?

Every team is coached by a teacher in either a head coach or assistant coach capacity. Study hour during road trips in hotels/bus trips. Daily study hour in the dorms every school night, as well as extra help provided to every student before and after school. Tutoring is available for every class, Monday-Thursday every morning before school begins.

How are grades monitored and how often?

Grades are monitored through OnCampus, parents have access to the grades throughout the semester. Teachers are expected to upload marks on a weekly basis. Parents have access up until a week before exam week.

How are courses and the graduation path for student athletes chosen?

We have a school counselor that offers support for students when choosing classes and academic routes

Do you have an academic probation policy?

Students that are not passing their courses are restricted from athletics. They must be passing all their courses to participate.

RESIDENTIAL LIFE

Do you offer a billeting program or a dormitory for non-local student athletes?

The majority of our students reside in the dorms and we also have locals that attend our school.

Over 85% of our students call Notre Dame their home, living in one of our six dormitories. The boarding environment provides an enriched, experiential learning experience, with a strong focus on leadership skill development, community, responsibility, time management, and self-reliance.

Each dormitory is administered by a House Parent who is supported by three assistant houseparents as well as a select group of Grade 12 students who have each earned the position of House Leader. Students are housed according to grades and gender and live together in rooms of two to four students. Rooms are attractively decorated with posters, photos, and appropriate memorabilia reflecting each student’s individuality while providing the familiarity of home. Each dormitory provides a common area with television and DVD player, snack kitchen facilities, beverage machine and storage space for travel cases and equipment.

Movies andÌýtrips into Regina, as well as other special events, are organized by our Student Activities Coordinator.

BOARDING AT NOTRE DAME COMMUNITY, LEADERSHIP, RESPECT: A WAY OF LIFE

As a boarding school, Notre Dame offers the advantages of leadership development and personal growth through an informal curriculum of community living.

STUDENT ATHLETE HEALTH

How are injuries and sick student athletes monitored?

The physical, mental and emotional health of each student is a very important part of the College’s responsibility to parents and students. Notre Dame’s Health Care Facility is staffed by a Registered Nurse/Licensed Practical Nurse, who will look after the health needs of your child while in residence at the college.

Notre Dame has a full time, Athletic Training Coordinator who carries out assessments and delivers prescribed treatments. Counseling services are provided, when required, by Child & Youth Services, or independent counseling services from Regina.

All out-of-country students will be required to apply for Saskatchewan Health Coverage upon their arrival in September.
