Seven Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) alumni have been named to the Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) 2020-21 All-Academic Team.
Myles Hilman, Hoon Kim, Tyler Mahan, Sam McPeak, Dexton Mozell, Brady Parker and Brendan Wang all received recognition for the award that honours players who demonstrate the qualities of an exceptional student-athlete working to further their athletic and academic pursuit.
This is the second consecutive season Hilman has won the award after joining the Drumheller Dragons for his rookie year in 2019/20. The Dragons captain has 35 points in 57 career AJHL games after spending one season at NAX. In his lone CSSHL season he would finish second in the U16 Prep division in scoring with 58 points in 36 games, plus an additional 6 points in 5 playoff games, capturing a CSSHL League Championship.
Kim was a two-year Edge School student-athlete winning a U18 Prep CSSHL League Championship in 2016/17. In 66 CSSHL games split between the U16 Prep and U18 Prep divisions the defenseman recorded 64 points. He would make the jump to junior in 2017/18 with the Okotoks Oilers, playing for them and the Whitecourt Wolverines, before ultimately landing with the Olds Grizzlys where he would have 4 points in 14 games this season.
Mahan spent the 2018/19 season with International Hockey Academy (IHA) U18 Prep team tallying 45 points in 36 games. Now in his second season with the Whitecourt Wolverines, Mahan had three goals and four assists in nine games during the 2020/21 campaign.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic McPeak was unable to play any games for the Canmore Eagles during his rookie season. The forward spent the previous three years with OHA Edmonton winning a U15 Prep CSSHL League Championship in 2017/18. Over the next two seasons at the U16 Prep and U18 Prep level he would record 39 points in 68 games.
Mozell wrapped up his third season with the Drayton Valley Thunder finishing with 9 points in 15 games. Before joining the Thunder for the 2018/19 season, he spent four years with Okanagan Hockey Academy (OHA) at the U15, U16 Prep and U18 Prep levels. The forward would finish his CSSHL career with 81 points.
Parker spent the 2016/17 and 2017/18 seasons with the IHA U18 Prep team playing in 42 CSSHL games and recording a .921 save percentage in the 2017/18 season. He would then join the AJHL鈥檚 Okotoks Oilers for the 2018/19 season, earning AJHL (South) All-Rookie Team honours. Parker has spent three seasons with the Oilers, posting a .905 save percentage and 2.37 goals against average in 75 game, and was named the team鈥檚 Top Goaltender for the 2020/21 season.
Wang spent three seasons with BWC Academy playing 113 games with their U16 Prep and U18 Prep teams. The defenseman totalled 95 points while earning 2017-2018 CSSHL U16 All-Academic Team, 2018-2019 CSSHL U18 WHL Scholastic Player of the Year and 2019-2020 CSSHL U18 All-Academic Team honours. In 15 games with the Fort McMurray Oil Barons his 13 points were tied for first among the team鈥檚 defensemen this season, earning him the team鈥檚 Top Rookie Award.
