Seven Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) alumni have been named to Western Hockey League (WHL) All-Star Teams for the 2020/21 season:
B.C. Division
- Tristen Nielsen – Vancouver Giants (Edge School)
- Justin Sourdif – Vancouver Giants (Delta Hockey Academy)
Central Division
- Dylan Guenther – Edmonton Oil Kings (Northern Alberta Xtreme)
- Jake Neighbours – Edmonton Oil Kings (Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna)
East Division
- Connor Bedard – Regina Pats (West Van Warriors)
- Ben McCartney – Brandon Wheat Kings (Okanagan Hockey Academy)
U.S. Division
- Gage Goncalves – Everett Silvertips (Yale Hockey Academy)
A first-round pick by the Calgary Hitmen in the 2015 WHL Bantam Draft, Nielsen spent five seasons in the WHL split between the Hitmen and Giants. With 32 points in 22 games this year Nielsen finished his WHL career with 175 points in 241 games played. Nielsen spent three years with Edge School, including two in the CSSHL from 2014-2016. In 41 CSSHL games Nielsen recorded 49 points at the U15 Prep and U18 Prep divisions.
Sourdif finished tied for third in WHL scoring finishing with 34 points in 22 games with the Giants. Drafted in the third round, 87th overall by the Florida Panthers in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Sourdif has 134 points in 147 WHL games. In his first of two seasons with Delta Hockey Academy he won a CSSHL U15 Championship and CSSHL U15 Most Valuable Player award, while leading the U15 division in assists (22), goals (27) and points (49). The following season he would record 66 points in 29 U15 Prep games, leading to the Giants selecting him third overall in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft.
In 12 games this season Guenther had 12 goals and 24 points, a league best 2 points per game, before leaving the Central Division bubble to represent Team Canada at the U18 World Championships. With 59 points in 58 games last season, Guenther, the 2018 WHL Draft first overall pick, was named the 2019/20 WHL Rookie of the Year. In 67 CSSHL games with the Xtreme, Guenther recorded 183 points.
Drafted in the first-round of the 2020 NHL Entry Draft by the St. Louis Blues, Neighbours spent the 2016/17 campaign with Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna winning a U15 Prep CSSL League Championship, finishing with 68 points in 30 games. Drafted fourth overall by the Oil Kings in the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft, Neighbours led the WHL in plus/minus (+29) and had the fourth best points per game (1.74), tallying 33 points in 19 games played this season. In 141 WHL games Neighbours has 131 points.
After recording 181 points in 71 CSSHL games, Bedard was selected first overall in the 2020 WHL Draft and became the first player in WHL history to receive Exceptional Status. This season Bedard had a league leading 28 point in 15 games played before leaving the WHL Eastern Conference bubble to join Guenther and the rest of the Team Canada in Texas as they captured gold at the U18 World Championships.
McCartney finished second among all WHL skaters in scoring with 37 points in 24 games. A seventh-round pick by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, McCartney has 151 points in 205 WHL games for the Wheat Kings. Before beginning his junior career out east, McCartney played two seasons out west with Okanagan Hockey Academy. In 52 CSSHL games split between the U15 Prep and U18 Prep divisions, McCartney finished his minor hockey career with 84 points.
A second-round pick by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the 2020 NHL Entry Draft, Goncalves had 34 points in 23 games this season with the Silvertips. Goncalves spent the 2015/16 and 2016/17 season at Yale Hockey Academy finishing with 11 points in 23 games at the U15 Prep level, and 30 points in 30 games at U16 Prep. In 151 career WHL games Goncalves has 120 points.
