Friday, November 15, 2024 – 1:00pm PST: Kal Tire Place

Okanagan Hockey Academy (8-1-0) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (19-2-0) U17

Separated by an hour long drive and just one spot in the rankings, first place RHA Kelowna (Kelowna, BC) will host second place OHA (Penticton, BC). This will be the first match-up of the season between the two squads as they play a triple-header this weekend.

RHA Kelowna has been firing on all cylinders this season with the leagues five leading scorers and seven of the top nine. Maximilian Koppel (18-20-38) leads all skaters with 20 assists and 38 points while Aiden Andrews (19-18-37) has a U17 best 19 goals. Kesler Hamilton (12-19-31) sits third in scoring and his 1.94 Pts/GP leads his team. Mason Alexander (8-19-27) and Bennett Macek (12-14-26) round out the top five. Colton Deschamps (7-17-24) leads all U17 defensemen in goals, assists and points, with four of his fellow teammates rounding out the top five scoring defensemen. In net William Stewart (11-1-0) has suffered just 1 loss while posting 2 shutouts, a 1.83 GAA and .920 SV%.

While a handful of RHA Kelowna skaters find their names at the top of the leaderboard, Jaxson Bartsch (8-11-19) and Gage Kiselbach (6-12-18) will likely see their names near the top come seasons end. The OHA forwards lead the U17 division with a 2.11 and 2.00 Pts/GP average, but have played just 9 games compared to RHA Kelowna’s 21. Cooper Vogt (3-7-10) sits seventh in U17 with a 1.67 Pts/GP and Luke Edgehouse (3-7-10) is fourth among defensemen with a 1.11 Pts/GP. Goaltenders Tyson Kuiack (4-1-0) and Alex Youngson (4-0-0) have split the time between the pipes, combining for a 2.56 GAA, .881 SV% and 1 shutout.

Saturday, November 16, 2024 – 2:15pm PST: Okanagan Hockey Training Centre

STAR Hockey Academy (9-3-0) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (4-8-0) U15 Prep

12th ranked OHA (Penticton, BC) will host 7th ranked STAR Hockey Academy (Seattle, WA) in their second match-up of the season, with their first taking place the day before.

After joining the CSSHL in the U15 division for the 2023/24 season, STAR is in their inaugural season in the U15 Prep division. The 2010 loaded American side is led by forward Daniel Makovetskiy (12-14-26), a 2023/24 U15 (BC/US Division) First Team All-Star. Makovetskiy is the only STAR skater with 20-plus points, though forwards Lincoln Angst (12-5-17), Braxton Baker (11-6-17), Levi Ellingsen (7-10-17), Ronin Brunner (4-13-17) and Blaise Weibye (3-9-12) are all double digit point producers. Dylan Gale (4-4-8) leads the STAR d-core with eight points. Erik Sims (7-2-0) has tended the net for the majority of the games this season, holding a 2.99 GAA, .890 SV% and 1 shutout.

Maddox Slater (2-4-0) and Brayden Unruh (2-4-0) have split the work in net for OHA this season. Nathan Marques (5-7-12) is the lone OHA skater to hit double digit point totals this season. His 7 assists and 12 points are all team highs, while his five goals are tied with Cooper Giarraputo (5-3-8), and Gage Mark (5-2-7) for the team lead. 2011 born forward Cohen Short (4-2-6) sits fifth in team scoring with six points this season. Roman Haddad (2-4-6), Shea Mooney (2-4-6) and Ryder Young (2-4-6) all have matching stat lines to pace the OHA blue-line. Henrik Alexander-Ward (1-4-5) and Preston Leboe (0-5-5) sit one point behind the trio as the OHA d-core provides offence in waves, rather than relying on a single player.

Sunday, November 17, 2024 – 10:45am PST: Planet Ice Delta – Canadian

Delta Hockey Academy Green (6-4-1) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (9-0-0) Female U18 Prep

Delta Green (Delta, BC) and RHA Kelowna (Kelowna, BC) have played twice previously this season, with RHA Kelowna winning both games in Vernon, BC by a score of 3-1. The second place Delta Green will host first place RHA Kelowna on Friday and Saturday before the Featured Game of the Day Sunday.

Delta Green is led by Team BC netminders Jillian Matthews (2-3-0) and Maisie Cope (4-1-1), who was named the 2023/24 CSSHL Female U18 Prep Top Goaltender. The duo have combined for a 1.91 GAA, .933 SV% and 1 shutout this season. Now in her fourth CSSHL season, Molly Cole (10-5-15) has tallied a team high 10 goals and 15 points. Defenseman Sadie Isfeld’s (7-3-0) seven goals led all Female U18 Prep defensemen this season. While the Delta Green offence might lack the star power of their opponent, 12 skaters have at least five points this season as the unit relies on its depth. Despite their slow starts offensively, look for Minnesota State University commit Katie Olfert (4-3-7) and Cornell University commit London McDavid (3-4-7) to make an impact sooner, rather than later, this season.

Coming off their third straight CSSHL Female U18 Prep Western Championship, RHA Kelowna has started the season off by going undefeated through their first nine games. But for the first time in eight seasons their will be a new head coach behind the bench as Garrett Festerling replaces Kris Hogg who recently left to join Clarkson University as an assistant coach in the NCAA. Among the 20 RHA Kelowna players include a CSSHL best 15 who represented their province last week at the 2024 U18 Women’s National Championships. 2008 born forwards Alida Korte (7-16-23) and Hayley McDonald (10-10-20) pace the RHA Kelowna offence, sitting third and fourth in league scoring. Danica Maynard (4-8-12), Team BC captain and Top Defenseman at the U18 Women’s National Championships, is tied with 2009 born Ava McDermid (0-12-12) for the lead on the RHA Kelowna blueline. Jaya Schippel (4-0-0) and Ava Drabyk (5-0-0) have combined for a 0.56 GAA, .968 SV% and 5 shutouts in the teams unbeaten run.

The 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) is excited to announce the four winners of the Student-Athlete of the Month Award for October: Gabriel Desantis, Elle Lorenz, Haydyn Brooks, and Brody Lukinbill.

For the 2024/25 season the CSSHL is proud to introduce the Student-Athlete of the Month Award for the four different CSSHL divisions/age brackets: Eastern, West Female, West U18 Male (U18 Prep, U17 Prep, U17) and West U15 Male (U15 Prep and U15) .

This award is aimed at recognizing the student-athletes within the CSSHL and acknowledges their hard work, dedication, commitment, leadership, academics and community impact.

We would like to congratulate these four student-athletes, who were all nominated by their programs, for their hard work in the month of October.

East Division – Gabriel Desantis, Stanstead College U17:

鈥淕abriel gives 110% at every turn. In science, he is a consistent worker and a true problem-solver- an example to the others in the class. I appreciate his calm, confident demeanour. Off ice, Gabriel is a prefect in Davis House. He is an excellent role-model for our younger students who watch and admire him.鈥

“In September and October, Gabriel was a dominant force on the pitch with the Varsity Boys Soccer team. He started every game and almost never came off the field the entire season. He was a leader and instrumental to the team鈥檚 championship season. While playing soccer 5 days a week, Gabriel also practiced 2-3 times with the U17 hockey team. The squad achieved much success with an early record of 4-0 in league play thus far. Now that winter is upon us, Gabriel will be full time hockey. He is a highly respected student-athlete and deeply involved in all aspects of school life. A true spartan!”

West Female Division – Elle Lorenz, Edge School Female U18 Prep:

“Elle Lorenz has been a part of the Edge School since 2017 where she started in grade 5. She has established herself in our school community through her excellence in the classroom and in the gym, coupled with her friendly disposition as a leader not only in the dressing room but also throughout the school. Her devotion and passion to give back to the young students athletes in our school and community has been years in the making.聽 Elle has been awarded the certificate of recognition for inspiring future generations through her passion for gender equality in sports. Through her voice, she creates positive change and empowerment through her volunteer talks with different classes and modelling the way with self-advocacy. Elle is now in her grade 12 year continuing to give back through Hero’s Hockey and additional hockey camps.”

West Male U18 Division – Haydyn Brooks, Pacific Coast Hockey Academy U17 Prep:

“Haydyn is a dedicated, hard-working grade 12 student who’s really stepping up to do his part to create a more constructive, supportive learning environment, advocating for and thoroughly participating in his own education and that of his peers at the district and classroom level! Haydyn was recently selected to represent our school, QELE峁圫EN 脕, LE峁 Secondary, at the Trustees/ Student Forum for our district where he shared his insights and recommendations with District Trustees and Senior Administration.

On the ice, Haydyn is an Assistant Captain and is a key motivator and leader for the PCHA U17 Prep team.”

West Male U15 Division – Brody Lukinbill, STAR Hockey Academy U15:

“Brody Lukinbill is an excellent candidate for the Student Athlete of the Month Award. His hard work and positive attitude set a great example for younger students at his school. As a leader, he embodies the core values of STAR Hockey Academy, showing dedication both on the ice and in the classroom. Brody’s kindness and consideration toward teammates, coaches, opponents, and officials further highlight his sportsmanship. He truly represents the ideals of teamwork and respect, making him a deserving recipient of this award.”

The 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) is excited to announce the three winners of the Coach of the Month Award for September: Martin Gascon, Jesse Hammill and Jamieson McVicar.

For the 2024/25 season the CSSHL is proud to introduce the Coach of the Month Award for the three different CSSHL divisions: Eastern, West Female, and West Male.

This award is aimed at recognizing the incredible coaches within the CSSHL and acknowledges their hard work, dedication, commitment, leadership and impact on the game both on and off the ice.

We would like to congratulate these three coaches, who were all nominated by their programs, for their hard work in the month of September.

East Division –聽 Martin Gascon, Bourget College:

“Martin could be a candidate for this on a daily, weekly, monthly, and annual basis. Why, because the energy and effort applied for the student-athletes is unmatched. Couple this with an intellect and methodical practice of resolving and concluding, always lends towards optimal decisions and monumental impact on the daily lives of our student athletes. Whether we are referring to hockey, academics, or life situations, the empathetic approach, while always teaching, has proved to have significant impacts on the lives of the people he touches. If we simply look at hockey, his knowledge, teaching ability, communication, and the overall impact-ability, you will see that the amount of student-athletes that have developed, grown, and evolved under his tutelage is remarkable.”

West Female Division –聽 Jesse Hammill, Okanagan Hockey Academy:

“In the first month of the season Jesse has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to his team. The first coach to show up in the morning and last to leave, Jesse has repeatedly gone above and beyond for his team. Whether it be promoting his players to scouts and universities, driving to BC Hockey events to support his players that have been invited or putting together presentations for his parent group, Jesse has repeatedly gone the extra mile. From a competition standpoint his efforts were rewarded the opening showcase weekend with his team finishing 4-0 to start league play giving up only 2 goals during the weekend.”

West Male Division – Jamieson McVicar, STAR Hockey Academy:聽

“Jamieson鈥檚 commitment to the development and success of the student-athletes at STAR Hockey Academy has been exemplary, making him a key figure in our program鈥檚 growth and achievements. As the lead for all individual development plans (IDPs) at the academy, Jamieson plays a crucial role in shaping the progress and performance of each athlete. His enthusiasm and personalized approach ensure that every player has a clear path to achieving their full potential, both on and off the ice. He takes the time to understand each athlete’s strengths, areas for improvement, and long-term goals, tailoring development plans that are both challenging and supportive. In addition to his IDP responsibilities, Jamieson serves as the assistant coach for our U15 Prep team. His positive coaching style, coupled with his ability to connect with the players, has fostered an environment of growth, confidence, and teamwork. Jamieson鈥檚 impact goes beyond the X’s and O’s of the game; he is a mentor, a motivator, and a role model for our athletes. Jamieson’s impact is felt across the academy, by student-athletes and staff alike.”

Located in Seattle, Washington, STAR Hockey Academy joined the 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) in 2023/24 and will compete in the U15, U15 Prep and U17 Prep divisions next season.

PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY AND MISSION STATEMENT

  • STAR provides our student athletes with elite development opportunities in education, sport and leadership. We are dedicated to creating a鈥渢eam鈥 environment in all areas of our programs that allow each member to thrive with the unwavering support of their coaches and teammates.

LIST OF CSSHL TEAMS

  • U15
  • U15 Prep
  • U17 Prep

LOCATION AND YEAR THE PROGRAM ENTERED THE CSSHL

  • STAR Hockey Academy is located in Kent, WA just 20 minutes south of Seattle. Our facility is a 10-minute drive from Sea-Tac Airport making it convenient for out-of-state families to fly in and catch a game. STAR entered the league in 2023-2024 and placed 4th out of 13 teams in our U15 inaugural season.

EDUCATION

  • Partner school
    • Grades 9-12: Kennedy Catholic High School
    • Grades: 7-8: St. Bernadette Parish School
  • What are some of the things your program does to provide educational support?
    • STAR works closely with both Kennedy Catholic and St. Bernadette鈥檚 to build a schedule that is both academically and athletically rigorous for our student athletes. Our hockey schedule is built to minimize days away from school with a goal of no more than 9 days of school missed per season. We also provide weekly study halls both at our training facility and when traveling on the road. Kennedy has a strong student mentor program, excellent tutoring resources and early morning class assistance for students looking for extra 1:1 time with teachers. As a Niche 鈥淎鈥 rated academic private school, Kennedy also offers an exceptional Student to Teacher ratio of 8:1 allowing each student a high level of daily interaction and monitoring by their teachers.
  • How are grades monitored and how often?
    • Our student athlete grades are monitored weekly. Both Kennedy Catholic and St. Bernadette communicate directly with our Hockey Director (Tanner Glass) and highlight any concerns that need to be addressed. All Coaches consider academic excellence a key component to our players development.
  • How are courses and the graduation path for student athletes chosen?
    • Kennedy Catholic structures its academic curriculum to prepare all student athletes to apply and be competitive candidates for post-secondary education. They offer a robust Honors, Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Credit coursework. They also offer more than 60 athletic teams and clubs allowing for students to thrive both in and out of the classroom. As proof of our shared academic goals, the Kennedy graduating class of 2023 had a 100% college acceptance rate. Finally, as a US Private School we are closely connected to all NCAA requirements for our athletes who choose the USA college hockey path.
  • Do you have an academic probation policy?
    • Our academic expectations are that students maintain or exceed a 3.0 GPA. Any player that falls below a 3.0 will be placed on educational support in order to bring them back into good standing. We recognize the opportunities for our players both in and out of hockey are greatly enhanced with strong academic results.

RESIDENTIAL LIFE

  • Do you offer a billeting program or a dormitory for non-local student athletes?
    • Kennedy Catholic (STAR鈥檚 high school partner) offers both Dormitory and 麻豆传媒入口stay programs for STAR student athletes. Dorms are just steps away from the school and include a fitness room, game room, study area and staffed kitchen. 麻豆传媒入口stay is a more traditional 鈥渂illeting鈥 solution for our players that allows for carefully screened families to host our student athletes. Host families are required to maintain regular communication with the school to ensure a safe and happy homestay experience for all students.

STUDENT ATHLETE HEALTH

  • How are injuries and sick student athletes monitored?
    • We employ Certified Athletic Trainers during all CSSHL games to monitor the health and safety of all players. We also require all off-ice training professionals to be fully certified in athletic training and CPR. We also have a mental health professional (Dr. D鈥橝nthony Smith) who works with our athletes each month on various mental health and sports psychology topics. Our coaches follow all USA Hockey concussion protocols. And, we keep parents informed at all stages of injury with frequent updates on any change of injury status.

SCHEDULE

  • What does the daily schedule look like for a student athlete in your program?
    • At the U15 / U15 prep level, student athletes attend school from 8:30am to 12:30pm. Players then take a shuttle from school to the rink and eat lunch together. Then one team will hit the ice from 1:30pm – 2:45pm while the second team hits the gym. Teams then switch (on-ice / gym) and continue training from 3pm – 4:15pm. A minimum of once a week we replace a gym session with a group video session. There are also individual video sessions throughout the week that players and coaches work through together. A typical day wraps up between 4:30 – 5pm. In addition, twice a week, all STAR teams have dedicated 3v3 Freeplay ice at our small-ice private training facility in Issaquah (30-minutes from the rink). These typically run from 5-7pm and are highly attended, offer exceptional development and support team bonding opportunities.
    • At the U17 prep level, student athletes begin their day on the ice from 7:45am – 9am Monday – Friday. Then they are shuttled to the school to begin classes at 9:30am. They attend core courses throughout the rest of the day with one afternoon period dedicated to 鈥渙ff-ice鈥 development at the Kennedy gym, track and / or training facility. The U17 prep day ends between 2:30pm – 3pm allowing players to join other high school sports teams or clubs, grab a bus or be picked up for home. As with the U15 teams, the U17 prep team also has two dedicated 3v3 Freeplay sessions that typically run between 5-7pm M-F or on open weekends.
  • How many games can your teams expect to play?
    • All STAR teams will play between 40-50 games per season. These include all CSSHL regular season games and Championships, exhibition games and potential USA Hockey Tier 1 State, District and National Championship games.
  • What does the on and off ice training look like?
    • On-Ice Highlights:
      • 4-5 practices per week (75-min, single team, full-ice)
      • 40-50 games per season
      • Dedicated focus on fundamental hockey skills with weekly power skating, elite skill drills, regular on-ice testing.
      • Team concepts / hockey systems weekly
      • Hyper focused on-ice cognitive development (decision making, processing speed through pressure drills and small ice 3v3).
      • Digital video analysis both at the team and individual level
      • Professional coaching staff with NHL credentials providing a consistent message that preparation, work ethic, daily effort and efficient recovery are essential ingredients to ongoing development
    • Off -Ice Highlights:
      • 4-5x per week on-site training facility
      • Strategic blend of strength, agility, range of motion, recovery, speed and muscular endurance phases throughout the year
      • Utilizing free weights, plyometrics, core equipment and school track to support physical development objectives
      • Multiple off-ice testing days to compare and measure progress and / or assess individual development opportunities
      • Nutritional and rest / recovery guidance ongoing
  • How long does your program run?
    • STAR offers a 10-month hockey development program that mirrors the school year (September – June).

The 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) has announced that its Governors have granted approval for six CSSHL member programs to operate new teams in the 2024-25 season after they received approval from their Hockey Canada Branches.

鈥淪ince our inception the CSSHL鈥檚 goal has been supporting Hockey Canada鈥檚 objective to facilitate the integration of Grade 8-12 education-based hockey/accredited school programing within the Hockey Canada programming model. The addition of these teams allows for that goal to continue with greater retention in our member programs,鈥 said CSSHL COO Kevin Goodwin.

Calgary International Hockey Academy (Calgary, AB) has been granted a U15 team for the 2024/25 season. CIHA currently operates a U17 Prep and U18 Prep team.

Now in their second CSSHL season, Indigenous Sports Academy (Saskatoon, SK) will add a U18 Prep team. ISA currently operates just one team this season in the U17 Prep division.

OHA Edmonton (Edmonton, AB) has added a Female U18 Prep team to go along with their full complement of teams on the male side.

Okanagan Hockey Ontario (Whitby, ON) has been granted a U16 team to compete in the Eastern U17 division. OHO currently has a U18 team playing in the CSSHL Eastern Division.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (Winnipeg, MB) will add both a U15 and U17 Prep team for next season. RHA Winnipeg currently has teams in the U15 Prep, U17 Prep, U18 Prep and Female U18 Prep divisions.

STAR Hockey Academy (Seattle, WA) will also add two teams for next season with the additions of a U15 Prep and U17 Prep team. The program is currently in its first season in the CSSHL with one team in the U15 division.

Eastern division program Champions Hockey Academy (Fredericton, NB) will transition from a U17 team to a U18 team next season.

With the addition of the eight teams, and the earlier announcement of the addition of five new programs, the CSSHL will consist of 125 teams and 37 member programs for the 2024/25 season.

STAR Hockey Academy, in partnership with Kent Valley Hockey Association, has been accepted into the 麻豆传媒入口 (CSSHL) as its 31st member for the 2023/24 season as voted by the league鈥檚 Board of Governors.

鈥淭he CSSHL is excited to add a program like STAR Hockey Academy to our western division as we continue to expand and grow our league across North America,鈥 said CSSHL COO Kevin Goodwin.

STAR Hockey Academy, in partnership with Kent Valley Hockey Association and Kennedy Catholic High School, becomes Seattle, WA first education-based hockey academy. STAR鈥檚 inaugural 14U team will compete in the CSSHL U15 division.

鈥淭his is an exciting time for youth hockey in Seattle. STAR Hockey Academy provides an exceptional development opportunity for student athletes and their families to participate in elite level, education-based hockey鈥 stated Tanner Glass, Vice-President and Director of Hockey for STAR.

Founding STAR partners are retired-NHLer and New York Rangers Player Development Coach Glass, local philanthropist and businessman Jamie Brunner, and Nathan Fischer, who owns CSSHL member program, the North Shore Warriors.

“This is a unique and exciting partnership for the youth in Seattle and the State of Washington,” agrees Kennedy Catholic President/Principal Matthew Mohs. “STAR Hockey Academy and Kennedy Catholic are both committed to providing student-athletes the opportunity to pursue all-around excellence. Our partnership ensures kids in the Pacific Northwest have the ability to develop their hockey talents while also receiving a quality education.”

STAR Hockey Academy is hosting an open house for families and prospective student athletes the evening of April 4th, with 14U try-outs taking place April 5th and 6th at Kent Valley Ice Centre.
