For the fifth straight season Wenatchee Wild U17 Prep netminder Anthony Ganoung will be participating in the October Saves Challenge to raise money to support the fight against cancer.

October Saves Challenge involves making a pledge to any goalie of your choice who is registered through the platform. People can pledge per save, or they can make a flat donation. The saves counted can be for any saves, in game or in practices, and runs from October 1 thru November 1. The monetary donations benefit both US and Canadian Beneficiaries.

鈥淎s a goalie the best save is always the next one,鈥 said Ganoung. 鈥淭he October Saves Challenge does just that; challenges you to make the next one and the one after that count.鈥

To date Ganoung has helped raised over $9,000.

鈥淲hen I first heard of this challenge, I was so impressed by this young man who wants to raise awareness and to help raise money for this special cause,鈥 said Wenatchee Wild Hockey Director Troy Mick. 鈥淗e always thinks of others first and is an amazing young man who will do great things on and off the ice with this kind of character that he possess.鈥

The Battleground, Washington netminder started doing the October Saves Challenge because he always liked when the NHL teams did 鈥楬ockey Fights Cancer.鈥 His mom bought his family 鈥楬ockey Fights Cancer鈥 t-shirts from their favorite teams before they heard about the October Saves Challenge.

鈥淚 don’t think there’s a single person I know that hasn’t been affected by cancer. I’d like to say that me or my family has been lucky but that’s not the case for us. October Saves became an outlet for me in a way that I can advocate for those that are fighting and those that have lost the fight. I count saves for my Great Uncle Art, My Grandfather Lewis, My Great-Grandma Marjorie, and Grandma Brenda,鈥 added Ganoung.
