Four Canadian Sports School Hockey League (CSSHL) alumni have been named as their Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) 2020-21 Top Defensemen Award Winner.
Cale Ashcroft (Sherwood Park Crusaders), Corson Ceulemans (Brooks Bandits), Cam Chin (Canmore Eagles), and AJ Macaulay (Bonnyville Pontiacs) were named their teams winners this year.
Ashcroft had 11 points in 19 games this season with the Crusaders after spending three seasons with the Northern Alberta Xtreme (NAX). In 93 CSSHL games Ashcroft recorded 43 points, including 15 in 17 games last season at the U16 level. The defenseman who, was recently named the Crusaders Top Rookie, was a fourth-round pick by the Saskatoon Blades in the 2019 WHL Bantam Draft.
Ceulemans is in his second year with the Brooks Bandits having recorded 46 points in 52 games the last two seasons, including 11 in 8 games this year. He was selected in the fifth round of the 2018 WHL Bantam Draft by the Moose Jaw Warriors and won gold with Team Canada at the U18 World Championships at the beginning of May. In 70 games with OHA Edmonton, Ceulemans had 70 points and won a U15 Prep CSSHL League Championship in 2018/19.
After three seasons with BWC Academy Chin joined the Spruce Grove Saints in 2018/19, spending one and a half seasons with the team before moving to the Canmore Eagles near the end of the 2019/20 season. In two games with the Eagles this season Chin had two assists. In 105 CSSHL games Chin had 70 points, including 39 in 39 games played in the 2017/18 season with BWC鈥檚 U18 Prep team.
Macaulay spent just one season in the CSSHL with NAX tallying 33 points in 35 games while winning a CSSHL U18 Prep Championship. He joined the Pontiacs for the 2019/20 season and has recorded 23 points in 69 AJHL games.
