GAME DAY RECAP: December 13, 2024

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (3) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (5) U18 Prep

Jace Williams (3G) opened the scoring for CDA with 1:31 in with his fifth goal of the season. Williams would double the lead 4:36 into the second with a power play goal. Ridley Ringor would get RHA Winnipeg on the board less than two minutes later but CDA would lead 4-1 after 40 as Aleksandr Skuratov (2G) scored his 11th and Williams completed the hat-trick 1:24 after that. Drayden Uhrina (1G, 1A) and Jake Ritson (1G, 1A) scored in the back half of the third as RHA Winnipeg attempted to make a late comeback. A Skuratov empty net goal with 18 seconds left secured the CDA victory and ended RHA Winnipeg’s comeback hopes. Bennett Byers (38/41) and Quinn Burfoot (27/31) were in net for their respective teams.Ìý

Prairie Hockey Academy (4) vs St. George’s School (3) U18 Prep

St. George’s kicked off Friday’s feature with a bang after Brendan Morgan banged home a close shot to give the Saints the initial lead. Later in the frame, a shot off the boards from Everett Silvertips prospect, Eddy Spytz, doubled St. George’s advantage. Come the second, Sam Auld added yet another to St. George’s growing lead, but a quick response from Kale Pratte (2G) shoveled some momentum into Prairie’s favour. Just before the end of the frame, Micah Davidson (33/36) would make a huge glove save in close. This save would prove to be the difference maker come the third. Rylan Emigh (1G, 3A) would bring PHA to within one early in the period while Griffin Horne would tie things up soon after. St. George’s would find themselves on a 2-on-0 in the late stages of the contest but failed to capitalise. Coming the other way, PHA would establish some zone time and a loose puck in front would find Pratte’s stick, where he would make no mistake, giving PHA their first lead that would go on to seal our Feature Game. Davidson would pick up 33-stops in the win.Ìý

Fairmont Hockey (3) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (7) U17

Mathew Kadrie (3G) scored 3:54 in to give Fairmont an early lead but OHA would hold the advantage after 20 as Gage Kiselbach (2G) and Brody Shilton tallied power play markers, and Saiva Brar (1G, 1A) scored his second of the year. Kadrie added a power play goal of his own early in the second but Kiselbach quickly countered 1:19 later with another goal for OHA while on the man advantage. Luke Edgehouse (1G, 1A) added to the lead 29 seconds later and Beckham Taggart (1G, 1A) recorded OHA’s fourth power play goal of the game later in the period. The third would start the same way as the previous two periods as Kadrie completed the hat-trick for Fairmont. Lucan Kostiuk put the game to bed just eight seconds later as OHA earned a 7-3 win to open their weekend.Ìý

St. Mary’s High School (2) vs Notre Dame (6) U17

Adam Ruffel (1G, 1A) ignited the scoring for St. Mary’s in the first, but a quick two goal swing from Notre Dame put them into the driver’s seat for the second. Ryder Pisiak (1G, 2A) would add to the Hounds advantage with the lone goal of the second. Notre Dame would add another three in the final frame including two from Luke White (2G, 1A). Nathan Thompson (23/25) would pick up 23-stops in the Friday victory for the Hounds.

Okanagan Hockey Ontario (5) vs King Heights Academy (2) East U18

Tom Garas scored the lone first period goal as OHO led 1-0 just 3:16 into the game. Tyler Koss tied the game midway through the second with his fifth goal of the season. The final three minutes of the second saw three goals as Jacob Zilber (2G) scored twice for OHO, and Vytas Lenkutis countered for KHA. Addison St. Cyr (1G, 1A) doubled the lead early in the third and Tom Boudet (1G, 1A) added an OHO empty netter to clinch a 5-2 win. Drew Osinga (34/36) and Jackson Taraborrelli (31/34) were in net for their respective teams.Ìý

Indigenous Sports Academy (1) vs North Shore Warriors (7) U18 Prep

ISA and North Shore kept the shots even through the opening twenty. However, a late spurt from the Warriors established a two goal lead by the end of the first. Tristan Hoko (2G) opened the scoring in the second in part of a three goal chain. ISA would pick up their lone goal in the third thanks to the efforts of U17 Prep call-up, Owen Sinclair. Georgi Milanov (32/33) steered aside 32-shots in the win while Kael Ratt (48/55) posted 48-saves in a hard fought match.

Edge School (6) vs BWC Academy (3) U18 Prep

Jonathan Bitonti (2G, 1A) opened the scoring in the early stages for BWC Academy, giving them a lead through the opening twenty. Kelowna Rockets prospect Owen Hayden nabbed the game tying goal early in the second, but Bitonti would restore BWC Academy’sÌýlead part way through the frame. Shortly after Bitonti’s tally, Edge School would find their rhythm as Adam M’hamed (2G, 1A) and Jeff Niehaus scored under a minute apart to give Edge School their first lead. Edge would continue this streak in the third as Julian Revel and Ethan Elefante nabbed another two for the Calgary-based team. Kai Anderson (1G, 1A) would sneak one back for BWC Academy on the powerplay, but it was too little too late as M’hamed sealed the afternoon off with an empty netter.

Prairie Hockey Academy (6) vs Delta Hockey Academy (2) U17

Reid Schmalz (2G, 1A) and Kaydin Halladay exchanged goals early in the first. Kashton Smith would give PHA the go ahead before the ice clean. PHA would continue their upward trend in the second, picking up three goals, two off the stick of Zander Watson (2G, 1A). Schmalz would net his second as the long goal in the third as PHA waltzed to a 6-2 win.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (5/OT) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (4) U17

After a scoreless first period Ryder Lilly (1G, 1A) scored his first of the season to give RHA Winnipeg a 1-0 lead. Reese Scott (1G, 1A) and Kaelen Rusjan (1G, 2A) would trade goals to close out the second period. Rhys Wilcox tied the game on the power play 1:14 into the second and Owen Hyde (1G, 1A) gave Pacific Coast their first lead a few minutes later. Cole Ewonchuk countered for RHA Winnipeg 1:41 later and Atley Feniuk (2G) scored unassisted 19 seconds after that as RHA Winnipeg jumped back in front. Kyle Rushton would tie the game with 2:27 remaining to force overtime. Feniuk would be the overtime hero for RHA Winnipeg, scoring 57 seconds into the extra frame to give his team a 5-4 win in their first game of the showcase.Ìý

Prairie Hockey Academy (4) vs RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (1) U17 Prep

Isaac Sousa gave RHA Winnipeg the initial lead through one period of play, scoring the lone goal of the frame. However, Prairie would snap back in the second as Bryden Wagner (2G) and Dane Chalupa spearheaded PHA into the lead. PHA would add another two in the third off the sticks of Ethan Unger and Wagner, sealing off a 4-1 victory over RHA Winnipeg. Karter Hilbig (32/33) came up big in the win, stopping all 21-shots through the final forty minutes of play.

Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (0) vs North Shore Warriors (2) Female U18 Prep

Haylie Hedges (17/17) and Ryann Faulkner (37/39) both played perfect hockey in the first as the game remained scoreless after 20. Elise Miller would break through for North Shore 3:08 into the second period with her fifth goal of the season. Jordana Jones would double the lead with a shorthanded goal with 2:30 remaining in the frame. The two teams would play a scoreless third as North Shore held on for a 2-0 win. Jaylah Bottle (2A) recorded assists on both NSW goals.Ìý

Calgary International Hockey Academy (7/OT) vs Yale Hockey Academy (6) U18 Prep

A high scoring affair started with a Mason Moran (2G) goal 2:48 in. Aden Bouchard (1G, 1A) added a power play marker four minutes later to extend the CIHA lead. Gus Schill (1G, 1A) would get Yale on the board 1:15 later with his seventh goal of the season. Moran doubled the lead in the second though Theron Bensler replied for Yale less than a minute later. Alexandre Jacques tied the game with a shorthanded goal but a Townes Kozicky (1G, 2A) power play marker 1:35 later gave CIHA the lead going into the final 20. Yale would come out firing in the third with Jayden Oleskiw (2G) scoring 52 seconds in. Matthew Dowall (1G, 1A) scored a power play goal 46 seconds later to put his team ahead and Oleskiw added another goal on the man-advantage as Yale led 6-4 after trailing most of the game. Hunter Kelso (2G) would cut into the deficit 1:14 later before tying the game three minutes after that. The game would need overtime where after CIHA hit a couple of posts, Scott Sandilands (1G, 1A) scored his third of the season to give CIHA the 7-6 win.Ìý

Notre Dame (3) vs Shawnigan Lake School (5) U18 Prep

Shawnigan grabbed the game’s first goal when Ryan Turner scored 8:20 in on the power play. Rio Minotti tied the game less than two minutes later with his second of the year. Cole Mekelburg restored the Shawnigan lead 41 seconds into the second with a shorthanded marker. Vincent Croteau doubled the lead less than two minutes later with his eighth of the year. Notre Dame would get one back as Jeremy Gould (2G) scored shorthanded in the final minute of the period. Koen Gauthier (1G, 1A) countered just 33 seconds into the third period to push the lead back to two. Gould scored his second of the game midway through the third as Notre Dame looked to complete the comeback. But a late penalty allowed Easton Sangris (1G, 1A) to score an empty net power play goal and secure the SLS win. Liam Ryan (30/33) made 30 saves for the win.Ìý

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (9) vs Delta Hockey Academy Black (1) Female U18 Prep

RHA Kelowna outshot Delta Black 61-13 en route to a 9-1 win Friday. Jillian McLaughlin (1G, 1A) set the tone 46 seconds in with her 13th goal of the season. Hayley McDonald (1G, 2A) led all skaters with three points while Callie Rice (2G) scored twice in the win. Alexis Howitt scored the lone Delta Black goal midway through the second period.Ìý

Northern Alberta Xtreme (4) vs Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (2) U17

Clayton Toews scored midway through the first on the power play as NAX led 1-0 after 20. Adam Pflugrath-Davis tied the game early in the second period with his ninth of the season. Seth Kshyk (1G, 1A) restored the lead midway through the second though Evan Davis countered with a shorthanded marker a few minutes later. Chance Smith (1G, 1A) put NAX ahead for good 1:01 into the third with a power play goal and Braeden Malenchak (1G, 2A) scored an empty net, shorthanded goal to secure the victory. Parker Sneazwell (18/20) and Morgan Hyndman (55/58) were in net for their respective teams.Ìý

Edge School (3/SO) vs BWC Academy (2) U17

Rylan Saunders got things started for Edge just under four minutes into play. Later in the frame, Siwoo Lee would etch his fifth goal of the season into the scoresheet to tie things up at 1-1. Teams would once again exchange goals in the second as Henry Doucette and Enan Vlad found the back of the net for their respective teams. The goal light wouldn’t shine in the third so an eventual overtime and shootout would be played. In the shootout, each team would score in their opening three shooters, making way for an extra three rounds until we found the winner. 6’3 defenceman Sam McLean unleashed his inner Peter Forsberg, beating Liam Kellett (33/35) with a one handed finish to give Edge the win.Ìý

South Alberta Hockey Academy (3/SO) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (2) U18 Prep

Brady Walker opened the scoring late in the first for RHA Kelowna, hopefully generating some momentum into the second. However, the scoring would stay quiet. It wouldn’t be until the late stages of the second where SAHA would find their first tally thanks to the efforts of Luke Warrener. Ryan Sadovia would restore RHA Kelowna’s lead early in the third, but a Josiah Jackson goal partway through the frame was enough to force extra time. In the eventual shootout, six rounds were needed to find the winner, eventually going on to be Medicine Hat Tiger’s draft pick Avery Watson, beating Conner Nicolson (37/39) on a move to the backhand. Mattias Radke (37/39) would stop 37-shots and 5/6 shooters in the shootout, backing SAHA to the promised land.Ìý

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (4) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (5) U18 Prep

After a scoreless first, the second would erupt with goals. Austin Polonoski (1G, 1A) would pop on to the scene just 49-seconds in, but would quickly be answered by Wenatchee’s Otaro Inoue (3G). Pilot Mound would eventually restore their lead and extend it to 3-1 after William L’Heureux and Caleb DeBruyne (1G, 1A) found twine. Collin Ubrig would get one back later in the second for the Wild. Despite being behind, Wenatchee would catch a break in the third as Inoue etched two goals into the scoresheet, including a shorty for the go ahead marker. William Picklyk (1G, 1A) would bring things back to even shortly after but a late goal from Luca Doremus put Wenatchee back in front. The Wild would hold on to this lead, securing their sixth win of the regular season.

Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (4) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (5) U17 Prep

Tyler Stefani (2G) laid the groundwork for Wenatchee in the first, scoring the lone goal of the frame. However, the Wild would strike for another three unanswered in the second, bolstering a 4-0 lead into the late stages of the frame. Gavin Payne would acquire one back for CDA late in the second, but this goal would also spark a sporadic chain of events. CDA would pot three unanswered of their own in the third, knotting this game all up at 4-4. Akira Ota netted the game tying goal with only 1:51 left on the clock. However, the one who started it all would also end it all. Stefani would find the back of the net with 67-seconds left to spare, sealing up the win and fending off a CDA comeback.

OHA Edmonton (5) vs North Shore Warriors (1) U17

Nishaan Jauhol would score the first’s lone goal for North Shore. However, this would be the only goal the Warriors would tally in this contest as OHA Edmonton flicked on the nitro for the final forty, gathering five goals before the horn sounded. Hudson Blair (1G, 1A) and Kaeleb Kassongo (1G, 1A) led the way with a goal and an assist each while Osten Strickland netted the GWG. Daniel Marsden (28/29) steered aside 28-shots to give OHA Edmonton the comfortable victory.

Yale Hockey Academy (5) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (2) U17 Prep

It was all PCHA through twenty minutes of play as goals from Phoenix Moyer-Isram and Treytin Frizzell established a 2-1 lead. In the second, Jason Ho (49/51) would play a vital role, stopping all 17-PCHA shots while Seth Castronuovo (3G, 1A) and Adrien Comeau (1G, 1A) gave Yale their first lead of the afternoon. Castronuovo would seal it up with another two in the third, completing the hat-trick and giving him 22-goals on the campaign. Ho made an astounding 49-saves in this contest, blanking PCHA through the final forty.

Fairmont Hockey (3) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (4/OT) U17

Despite playing earlier this morning, Fairmont wouldn’t give RHA Kelowna a laid back contest, opening the scoring and heading out of the first with only behind by one. RHA Kelowna’s Kesler Hamilton (3G) netted a hatty in the opening twenty minutes. A quiet second would follow as the only goal scored would come in the final second as Mathew Kadrie (3G) polished off his hat-trick as well. No scoring would take place in the third, leading this game to OT. Late into 3-on-3, Aiden Andrews (1G, 1A) would net his 23rd of the season to give RHA Kelowna the close cut win.Ìý

Delta Hockey Academy (6) vs Shawnigan Lake School (3) U17 Prep

Delta would find the scoresheet first after Vancouver Giants prospect Dylan Hurren potted one on the man advantage. Delta would score another two before the end of the first with Shawnigan’s Samuel Wilson cutting the deficit to one. Caden Leibel (1G, 1A) would restore the three goal lead but two late goals from Shawnigan had the potential to make for an interesting third. Shawnigan would keep up with Delta’s pace in the final frame, but Delta would get the better end of them, scoring twice, cementing their Friday night win.Ìý

Notre Dame (5) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (6/OT) U15 Prep

Two goals separated by only 9-seconds opened the scoring for Notre Dame Friday night. Rhys Lawless would (1G, 1A) would score his first of the year to get PMHA back to within one. Both teams would trade goals once more before the end of the frame. In the second, the Buffaloes would score three unanswered, giving them a 5-3 lead into the late stages of the period. Joey Jackson (2G) would squeeze one back for the Hounds in the tail end of the frame. Jackson’s goal would show its value in the third as Duke Lesnar (1G, 1A) managed to tie things up, forcing OT. Just under a minute into the extra frame, Cole Landreville (1G, 3A) would net the winner in part of a four point performance, thwarting Notre Dame’s comeback hopes.

Northern Alberta Xtreme (4) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (3) U18 Prep

Goals by Easton Doran (1G, 1A) and Ben Deacon were separated by less than a minute to give NAX the early two goal spread. Charlie Grant would get one back for OHA early in the second but a quick response from Liam Eisnor restored the two goal lead. It wasn’t until the third where OHA would find their wheels again as Jacob Davidson and Tucker Robertson knotted things up at three with back-to-back goals in quick succession. However, a final minute goal from Jake Walker would silence any hope of an OHA comeback. Tyler Swanson (31/34) picked up the win with 31-saves while Chayse Johnson (49/53) posted a formidable 49-saves in the close battle.

OHA Edmonton (6) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep

Trace Anderson (4G) was cooking early in this contest, netting the first two goals to strike the scoresheet, building on what would become a 3-0 through the first half of this game. However, a late goal from Braydon Franks tipped the momentum in OHA Edmonton’s favour. To start the third, OHA Edmonton would rally back with two quick goals off the sticks of Hunter Yee and Parker Fitzgerald (1G, 1A). PCHA would get back on track as Elliott Hill restored their lead while Anderson netted his hat-trick to put them ahead by two. A late powerplay goal from Paulo Borrelli had a chance to give OHA Edmonton some life, but yet another goal from Anderson in the final sixty seconds labeled this win for PCHA.

Northern Alberta Xtreme (4) vs OHA Edmonton (3) U17 Prep

Jihwan Kim opened the scoring a mere 11-seconds into play for OHA Edmonton. Brody Dawson (2G, 1A) would add the equalizer part way through the frame, keeping things tied through twenty. The scoring would take a hiatus in the second but another early goal from OHA Edmonton, courtesy of Kolton Ferguson (1G, 1A), would restore OHA Edmonton’s lead. Nolan Phare would respond with his ninth of the season soon after while Dawson potted his second to give NAX their first lead. In the late stages of the third, Kai Richards would tie things up for OHA Edmonton, forcing overtime against their inner-city rivals. In the extra frame, Kaysun Brunham would find the back of the net, completing the third period comeback in style.

Calgary International Hockey Academy (3) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (5) U17 Prep

CIHA kicked off with what you could call the perfect start. Three goals in just over a minute of play to polish off the first. However, SAHA would catch steam in the second, scoring three unanswered in a short span as well to wrap up the frame. Come the third, Kade Jensen would score the go ahead goal for SAHA only 26-seconds into play. SAHA would go on to hold this lead while Kutcher Aquila (2G, 2A) added the empty netter. Hunter Zawislak (23/26) stopped all 14-shots through the final forty minutes en route to victory.Ìý

STAR Hockey Academy (3) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (2) U15 Prep

Ethan Parsons spotted Cameron Young-Thompson for a perfect breakaway feed to put PCHA up early. STAR forward Daniel Makovetskiy (1G, 1A) would later respond with a shortside snipe to tie things up while Tommy Ogee ripped home his second of the season to give STAR the lead. Trent Porter tied things up early in the second for PCHA but late in the second a loose puck would find Brody Lukinbill, restoring STAR’s lead. STAR would hold on to this lead through the final twenty. Erik Sims (36/38) turned aside 36-shots en route to victory.

St. George’s School (5) vs BWC Academy (17) U15

Only one BWC Academy skater left the ice without a point in Friday’s scoring-fest over St. George’s. Wyatt Lowther (4G, 1A) led the goals category with four while Ethan Kartadinata (3G, 3A) and Ryder Bui (2G, 4A) each acquired six points each. Theo Falk (3G, 2A) and Jack Davison (2G, 3A) each recorded five point performances while eight other skaters entered in at least two points on the scoresheet.

North Shore Warriors (0) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (4) U15 Prep

Alexander Sharman (3G) opened the scoring only 13-seconds into the first. This tally would stand as the game winner as he would later go on to add two more for the hat-trick. Kaius Millan (1G, 3A) would provide the other goal while racking up four points while Bronson Lamontagne (3A) dished out three helpers. Dylan Mingo (25/25) recorded the shutout, his first of the season, to back RHA Kelowna to their seventh win of the regular season.

Frontier Selects (1) vs Delta Hockey Academy (5) U18 Prep

Delta would jump on the board first with a pair of quick goals from Milan Mrsic and Jaiven Mann (2G). Victoria Royals prospect Jacob Schwartz (1G, 1A) would add a shorthanded goal in the second before Frontier got on the board with a tally from Jakub Havlicek. Come the third, Alexander Laing and Mann would add an extra two to Delta’s total, sealing off our Friday night with a 5-1 victory over Frontier.
