GAME DAY RECAP: December 9, 2023

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (5) vs North Shore Warriors (6) U18 Prep

Halfway through the match, NSW had established a 4-1 lead and were outshooting Pilot Mound plentifully. However, the tides would shift after Jaden Mah scored on the powerplay to cut down Pilot Mound鈥檚 deficit. NSW鈥檚 Arsiyan Van de Brande (1G, 2A) would restore their lead shortly after, but James Sauer would cut it back once more just 25-seconds later. Tyrell Leaske (2G) would go on to supply another two goals for Pilot Mound in the late push for a comeback. However, a goal from Deacon Drummond (2G) halfway through the third would end up being the backbreaker and the eventual game winner for North Shore.听

OHA Edmonton (3) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (2) U18 Prep

After falling to Coeur d鈥橝lene yesterday, OHA Edmonton came out with something to prove over RHA Kelowna. The shots would register 12-7 in favour of OHA Edmonton after one, but a Brody Gillespie (2G) goal was the only shot that found its way through in the frame. Jason Walia would even things up in the second, setting the stage for a tightly knit third period. Gillespie would give RHA Kelowna the initial lead just 1:34 into the frame, but OHA Edmonton began to press shortly after. Nolan Schmidt (2G) would tie things up shortly after Gillespie鈥檚 marker. After getting into some late penalty trouble, Schmidt would strike again on the powerplay to give OHA Edmonton the go ahead lead with 2:36 remaining. Corbin Sanderman (33/35) would steer away the rest of RHA Kelowna鈥檚 shots when the extra attacker was present and hand them their first regulation loss of the season.

STAR Hockey Academy (2) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (12) U15

NAX鈥檚 fiery offence was finding ways to score at every opportunity they had. Luka Samu (2G, 2A) scored a shorthanded and a powerplay goal back-to-back in the second period while Kyle Denis (3G, 2A) polished off a hat-trick halfway through the second after opening the game with its first two tallies. Kalen Miles (2G, 3A) and Kaysun Brunham (4A) also both provided notable offensive performances over STAR.

Notre Dame (5) vs Rink Hockey Academy Winnipeg (8) U17 Prep

RHA Winnipeg left the first period with a 4-3 lead thanks to a late goal from Carter Haney (2G, 2A) with 12-seconds left. His academy would build off of that marker in the second, posting another two goals from Hayden Shtykalo (2G, 1A) and Max Dowse, both of which for their 10th goals of the season. Brodie Steeves would score one late for Notre Dame to possibly stir up a third period comeback. However, Haney would restore RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 two-goal advantage halfway through the final frame, putting things just out of reach for Notre Dame.

Northern Alberta Xtreme Blue (11) vs OHA Edmonton (4) U17 Prep

From the moment puck dropped, Jacob Harkness (3G, 2A) was feeling it, scoring just 10-seconds into this match up versus OHA Edmonton. Harkness would go on to score a hat-trick and record five-points. Riley Thorpe (3G) also recorded a hat-trick in this Saturday matchup while Parker Fitzgerald (2G, 2A), Mats Lajoie (4A) and Macklin Dobko (4A) all tallied four points-a-piece.听

Notre Dame (3) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep

Wenatchee was able to establish a 3-1 lead come the halfway point of the game, but a late shorthanded goal by Talon Langston would shift things in Notre Dame鈥檚 favour. Callum Biers would eventually tie the game in the third for Notre Dame. However, a late push Wenatchee resulted in the eventual game winner from Seth Banner. Charlie Keefe (22/25) would backstop Wenatchee鈥檚 crease for the final eight minutes en route to their second victory of the season.

Delta Hockey Academy (5) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (4) U15

Delta always managed to be one step ahead of OHA, quickly responding to their offensive efforts and putting themselves back in the driver鈥檚 seat. Nicolas Peach鈥檚 (1G, 1A) late first period goal was a game changer to give Delta the lead before the end of the first. Adam Molinaro would score a shorthanded goal for OHA halfway through the second, but Ethan Kitchen (2G) would get his payback, scoring 28-seconds later on the powerplay to restore Delta鈥檚 advantage. Kitchen would add another in the third that would go on to be the GWG.

Calgary International Hockey Academy (5/SO) vs Delta Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep

CIHA kicked off Saturday鈥檚 game with three unanswered goals spread across the first and second period, holding Delta at bay on the scoresheet and the shot counter. However, Dane Pyatt would scrape up one for Delta before the second. The game would be flipped upside down come the third period as Delta would strike back for three unanswered of their own with heavy praise to Jackson DeGraves (2G, 1A) who scored twice in 3:38. CIHA would make one final push late in the third where they managed to claw one back and force an overtime thanks to Ethan Watkins (1G, 1A). Eventually, a shootout was needed where CIHA鈥檚 Michiel Leenders would score the lone goal to shut down Delta鈥檚 chance at a comeback.

Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy Navy (2) vs Delta Hockey Academy Black (16) U17 Prep

Imaan Atwal (5G, 1A) scored five goals, Nicholas Campbell (3G, 4A) led all skaters with 7 points and all but one Delta Black skater found their name on the scoresheet in a 16-2 win. Ronan Coopman (3G, 3A) recorded a hat-trick and Kaydin Halladay (1G, 4A) and Jordan Nguyen (2G, 3A) each had five points. Defenseman Owen Bambrick (2G) scored both CDA Navy goals.听

St. George’s School (4) vs Edge School (5/SO) U15

Liam McLean opened the scoring for St. George鈥檚 but Damien Lavallee (1G, 1A) tied the game less than 2 minutes later with his 22nd of the season. Dylan Sherban found the back of the net for Edge with 28 seconds left in the first. Tarik Lammam (1G, 1A) tied the game 2:38 into the second before Alex Han (1G, 1A) and Zach Lam (1G, 1A) traded goals to close out the period. Andrew Ragusa scored the go-ahead power play goal 11:28 into the final period for Edge. It looked like Edge would hold on for the win but Logan Okamura tied the game with 10 seconds left to force OT. After OT solved nothing, Ragusa and Lavallee each scored and Kaidyn Thomas (16/20) stopped two of three St. George鈥檚 shooters giving Edge the 5-4 win. Joffrey Chan (55/59) faced 59 shots in net for St. George鈥檚.听

Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (2) vs Yale Hockey Academy (6) U17 Prep

Ryker Swanson (2G, 1A) scored with 2:11 left in the first as Yale led 1-0 after 20. Kyounghun Oh added to the lead before Braden Boman and Cal Kellenberg scored less than three minutes apart to equal the Yale score. Gus Schill (1G, 2A) scored the go-ahead goal with six seconds remaining in the middle frame. The third belonged to Yale as Adrien Comeau, Swanson and Karsen O鈥橞rien (1G, 3A) all found the back of the net, giving Yale a convincing 6-2 win. Jason Ho (37/39) and Nathaniel Madrigal (57/63) were in net for their respective teams.听

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (2) vs OHA Edmonton (5) U15

Emilio de la O Ruiz opened the scoring 1:37 in but Micah Montgomery was quick to counter for OHA Edmonton, scoring 1:27 later. Tucker Porter (1G, 1A) would bury his second goal of the season with 4:44 left in the opening period, giving OHA Edmonton the 2-1 advantage. Ethan Lobay scored shorthanded to extend the lead and Cohenn Rotar鈥檚 10th of the season increased the deficit to 3. Sebastian Nuttall gave PCHA life with 2:11 remaining but OHA Edmonton responded just 16 seconds later when Brayden Tucker (1G, 2A) scored his eighth goal of the year. Adrian Ferro (18/20) was credited with the win.听

Notre Dame Red (1) vs OHA Edmonton Black (8) U17 Prep

OHA Edmonton Black scored eight straight goals en route to a commanding 8-1 win over Notre Dame Red. With 11:13 left to play Jacob Carroll would end what was otherwise a perfect night for OHA Edmonton Black, beating Aidan Prosser (26/27) for his seventh goal of the season. The OHA Edmonton Black offence was led by two goal efforts from Braydon Franks (2G, 1A) and Logan Penston (2G), along with a three point game from Callum Campbell (1G, 2A). Matej Sevcik (36/44) was the goalie on record for Notre Dame Red.听

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (4) vs St. George’s School (2) U18 Prep

Sam Auld and Simon Ward scored less than four minutes apart as St. George鈥檚 held a 2-0 lead after 20. Reece Gault (1G, 1A) got RHA Winnipeg on the board with a power play tally in the second. Wyatt Stinton (2G) tied the game with 9:09 to play, Leo Seitz scored the go ahead goal 3 minutes later, and Stinton added another with 1:51 left as RHA Winnipeg completed the comeback for a 4-2 victory. Brant Catellier (25/27) made 25 saves for the win while Austin Ball (27/31) was in net for the loss.听

Shawnigan Lake School (6) vs Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy (2) U18 Prep

Joshua Polak (2G) capitalized on a power play just 41 seconds in to give Shawnigan a 1-0 lead. Easton Sangris and Eli McKamey (1G, 1A) would score 14 seconds apart and Polak added a shorthanded goal as Shawnigan held a commanding 4-0 lead heading into the final frame. Jace Williams would end the Emmett Neitsch (25/27) shutout bid just 45 seconds into the third. Ethan Armstrong (1G, 3A) and Colin Bigelow would trade goals before Marcus Hughes secured the victory with his fifth goal of the season.听

Delta Hockey Academy Green (14) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (0) Female U18 Prep

Delta Green outshot OHA Black 82-4 en route to a 14-0 win Saturday. Payton Finnie (4G, 1A) scored four times as all but one Delta Green skater recorded a point. Ellie Chou (4A) and Sadie Isfeld (4A) each had four assists in the win. Jillian Matthews (4/4) was in net for the shutout.听

Calgary International Hockey Academy (7) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (5) U17 Prep

Jack Coghlan opened the scoring with his seventh of the season and Lachlan Hanton (1G, 1A) extended the early CIHA lead with a power play goal. Ryker Klassen scored his first of the season with 1:12 left in the first to bring SAHA within 1. Slade McFadzen tied the game 1:50 into the second with a penalty shot tally. But Brendan Rudolph (1G, 3A) and Easton LaPlante (2G, 2A) responded for CIHA as they regained their two goal lead going into the third. LaPlante extended the deficit, but SAHA would score three times in 3:24, including twice shorthanded, to tie the game. 31 seconds after Cole Fisher had tied the game, Zee Jamal (1G, 1A) scored the go ahead goal for CIHA. Lincoln Martin (1G, 1A) added a power play tally with 4:40 remaining to put the game out of reach. Erich Baxter (32/37) and Thomas Papas (28/35) were the goalie on record.听

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (9) vs North Shore Warriors (1) Female U18 Prep

Reika Iwami scored her first goal of the season as North Shore led 1-0 3:06 in against undefeated RHA Kelowna. But RHA Kelowna would prove why they have yet to lose this season, scoring nine straight goals. Makayla Watson (2G, 1A) led all skaters with three points. Sage Babey (1G, 1A), Anezka Cabelova (1G, 1A), Danica Maynard (1G, 1A), and Chloe Primerano (1G, 1A) had multi point games in the win. Madison Bowtell (9/10) and Hyoseo Cheon (65/74) were in net for their respective teams.听

Notre Dame (2) vs Yale Hockey Academy (9) U15

Kessler Hauser (2G) scored the lone first period goal for Yale as they led 1-0 after 20. Elias Papadatos and Matthew McGuinness scored early in the second to extend the lead. Rylan Struch (1G, 1A) got Notre Dame on the board just nine seconds later. Tanner Massey responded for Yale before Luke Ebbett and Matteo Zenone (1G, 1A) traded goals to close out the period. Yale would pour it on in the third as Lucas Ward (1G, 1A), Jaxen McFegan (1G, 2A), Tony Cabelka (1G, 1A) and Hauser all found the back of the net in a 9-2 win. Nevin Connor (28/30) made 28 saves for the win, while Louis Barbes (41/50) faced 50 shots in the Notre Dame net.听

North Shore Warriors (4) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (6) U15

Bronson Lamontagne (2G) scored the lone first period goal for RHA Kelowna. He would score again 11 seconds into the second and Miller Watkins (2G) would follow it up with a power play goal. Kenzo Gibson (2G, 1A) scored shorthanded to get NSW on the board but it was countered by Watkins. Aiden Andrews (1G, 3A) scored 27 seconds into the third and Tyson Taylor scored 1:06 later as RHA Kelowna held a commanding 6-1 lead. Grayson Hunter, Conor Nicolson and Gibson all scored late in the third to give North Shore life but the comeback ultimately came up short.Dylan Mingo (19/23) made 19 saves for the win.听

South Alberta Hockey Academy (2) vs BWC Academy (5) U18 Prep

Josh Evaschesen scored shorthanded late in the first as SAHA led after 20. Matthew Sutherland (2G) and Daniel Morozov (1G, 2A) scored 1:02 apart early in the second to give BWC Academy a 2-1 advantage going into the third. Sutherland would score again and Ty Bonkowski (2G, 1A) scored twice on the power play as the lead grew to four. Josiah Jackson scored a late consolation goal but Preston Lewis (35/37) made 35 saves to secure a BWC Academy win. Mattias Radke (32/37) was charged with the loss.听

Prairie Hockey Academy (1) vs Yale Hockey Academy (6) U18 Prep

After a scoreless first Grant Reid (1G, 1A) scored 18 seconds into the second. Alexandre Jacques added a goal 59 seconds later, and Noah Marshall another 52 seconds after that. Tommy Lafreniere (1G, 2A) and Logan Flint added late second period goals as Yale held a commanding 5-0 lead after 40. Adam M鈥橦amed extended the lead midway through the third and Cole King broke the Spencer Hunnam (33/34) shutout bid with 2:57 left to play. Gibson Horne (36/42) was in net for Prairie.听

Delta Hockey Academy Black (1) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (2) Female U18 Prep

Tiani Makokis and Kira Bui scored 1:50 apart midway through the first as the game remained tied until 24 seconds into the third when Jada Wood scored her sixth goal of the season for OHA. Jaya Schippel (24/25) made 24 saves on the day to deny Delta Black of a comeback. Alix Walchuk (42/44) made 42 saves to keep Delta Black in the game.听

Notre Dame (5) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (3) U15 Prep

Brady Vipond (1G, 1A) opened the scoring for PHA just 1:52 in. Riley Brown (2G, 2A) and Ryker Doka (1G, 2A) countered for Notre Dame to give them a 2-1 advantage heading into the second. Ramsey Thompson tied the game 1:50 into the second before goals from Brown and Parker Banks (1G, 1A) gave Notre Dame a two goal cushion. Ethan Fitzpatrick (1G, 1A) extended the deficit in the third while Maximus Craig scored a consolation goal for PHA midway through the period.听

Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna Black (3) vs St. George’s School (4) U17 Prep

Adam Shypitka opened the scoring but it was St. George鈥檚 who led after 20 thanks to goals from London Taylor (1G, 1A) and Brenden Morgan. Lucas Benn (1G, 1A) and Minsuk Hou scored second period goals as St. George鈥檚 held a 4-1 advantage after 40. RHA Kelowna Black would attempt to mount a late comeback as Reid Rabinovitch and Brady Walker each scored in the final six minutes, but Kyle Taylor (38/41) denied them of an equaliser. Louis Gu (35/39) was in net for the loss.听

Yale Hockey Academy (7/SO) vs BWC Academy (6) U15 Prep

Logan Henry (1G, 2A) and Justin Moon (1G, 1A) scored 11 seconds apart as BWC Academy jumped out to a 2-0 lead. Jacob Dumansky (1G, 2A) would reply for Yale 3:21 later. Chase Smith would temporarily tie the game 26 seconds into the middle period before Connor Liu restored the lead just 1:11 later. Macguire Newman tied the game but it was again short lived as Richard Wonyeneh scored for BWC Academy 53 seconds later. Bruce Zhong (1G, 1A) scored a shorthanded goal 17 seconds into the third to stretch the lead to 2. Ollie Reid (1G, 3A) scored midway through the third for Yale but BWC Academy continued to respond quickly after giving up goals, as Kyle Obobaifo (1G, 1A) found the back of the net 49 seconds later. But Yale wouldn鈥檛 go away quietly as Ryder Buick and Shaun Hildebrandt (1G, 3A) rallied to force OT. After a scoreless OT, Reid and Gavin Bradley both found the back of the net and Christiano Pelegrin-Hicks (10/11) stopped both BWC Academy shooters to give Yale the 7-6 come from behind win.听

BWC Academy (3) vs STAR Hockey Academy (8) U15

Kyler Bush (1G, 1A) and Nathan Da Silva traded early first period goals for their respective teams. Daniel Makovetskiy (4G, 1A) kick-started the second period with his 22nd goal of the year. Enan Vlad tied the game before George Gapeshin (1G, 2A) and Levi Ellingsen (2G, 2A) responded for STAR. Nicholas Voinea (1G, 1A) would bring BWC Academy back within one 15 seconds later, with 27 seconds left in the period. Makovetskiy would complete the hat-trick with two third period goals. Ellingsen and Makovetskiy each added late, empty net, shorthanded goals. Bannen Clements (31/34) made 31 saves for the win. Mya Young (27/33) was in net for the loss.听

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy Blue (6) vs Shawnigan Lake School (3) U17 Prep

PCHA Blue grabbed a late first period as Parson Shahi (2G, 1A) and Maxwell Hoey (2G) found the back of the net. Owen Hentschel, Hoey and Tristan Gravenor (1G, 2A) extended the lead with second period goals. Shawnigan would start to mount a comeback in the third as Ronan Murphy, Nigel Alberts (1G, 1A) and Ethan Naus all scored. But Shahi would score late to put the game well out of reach. Braxton Becker (30/33) made 30 saves for PCHA Blue in the win.听

Edge School (5/OT) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep

Nate Crashley (1G, 1A), Leim Smith and Cruz Pavao (2G, 1A) scored first period goals as Edge led 3-0 after 20. Pavao would add a power play marker 4:36 into the second as Edge seemed destined for a blowout victory. Hudson Closson would give OHA life midway through the second period. For the second game in a row OHA would overcome a three goal, third period deficit as Tim Schutz (1G, 1A), David Hoy and Kayden Clarke all scored to tie the game. But today the comeback would only earn them a single point as Maxim Shushkov scored with 49 seconds left in OT to give Edge a 5-4 win. Preston Patenaude (29/33) picked up the win in net for Edge.听

Northern Alberta Xtreme (6) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (2) U18 Prep

NAX led 3-0 after 20 as Jordan Duguay (1G, 1A), Jack Toogood (1G, 1A) and Torretto Marrelli (1G, 1A) all found the back of the net. Presley Kerner (1G, 1A) and Grady Sluggett traded second period goals as PCHA got on the board 13:22 into the middle frame. Jase Johnstone brought PCHA within 2 just 1:50 into the third but affiliate Ben Harvey responded late and Hunter Dingman added an empty net goal to secure the NAX victory. Jordan Switzer (29/31) picked up his ninth win in his tenth game this season.
