Yale Hockey Academy (6) vs Edge School (7/SO) U15 Prep

Gavin Bradley (1G, 1A) tied everything up early in the second, bringing Yale back into the match after being outshot 11-3 in the first period. However, Edge would go on to record four unanswered goals before the end of the second, including a shorthanded marker from Mirco Dufour. Before the end of the period, Shaun Hildebrandt (1G, 1A) would snag an important tally with only 30-seconds remaining, cutting Yale’s deficit down to three. Yale would end up making a valid push in the third period, outshooting Edge School 15-11 and scoring three unanswered goals to erase their deficit and force an overtime. Eventually, a shootout was required to finish off this back-and-forth contest. Each academy would score twice within the first three shooters. Jordin St. Louis (1G, 1A) scored on Edge’s fourth attempt, putting the pressure on Langley, BC’s Jacob Dumansky (2G, 1A) to keep Yale’s hopes alive. On Dumansky’s attempt, he would be stoned by the right pad of Leif Oaten (23/29), failing to nab his academy the whole two points.

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (1) vs OHA Edmonton (2) U15 Prep

Zachary Schwartz was served a one-timer from Jihwan Kim halfway though the first, giving OHA Edmonton the initial lead. This would be the last goal we would see until the third as Cole Chorostkowski (29/30) and Asher Netherton (26/28) had their cages on lockdown for the entirety of the middle frame. Walker Filewich (1G, 1A) would be the one to snap Netherton’s hot-streak, deflecting one past the Kelowna, BC raised goaltender. Kesler Hamilton would bring RHA Kelowna back within reach shortly after. However, after a five-minute major was assessed with 4:56 remaining on the clock, RHA Kelowna’s chance at the comeback became futile. OHA Edmonton would ride their one goal lead into the sunset, carefully hanging on to possession to complete the upset to start off their weekend.

Northern Alberta Xtreme (2) vs Shawnigan Lake School (4) Female U18 Prep

A pair of goals split by Charlotte Lawson and Taya Lonsdale (2G) gave Shawnigan the early lead heading out of the first. Sawyer Mackay (1G, 1A) would put NAX on the board halfway through the second, but was quickly answered by Grace Cooper, restoring Shawnigan’s two goal advantage. This lead would be once again cut to one thanks to a late goal from Brayden Stewart. However, NAX was not able to produce any more offence in the final frame. In fact, on their second powerplay of the frame they actually surrendered a shorthanded goal to Lonsdale, putting this contest out of reach and allowing Shawnigan to routinely win this matchup.

Thunder Bay Queens (3) vs North Shore Warriors (1) Female U18 Prep

Thunder Bay opened up their CSSHL stay with a convincing victory over North Shore. It all started with an early marker from Brooklyn Voortman (1G, 1A), scoring just 3:03 into play and setting the tone for the rest of the way. Scoring would resume in the second after Emma Firth (2G) scored back-to-back to increase Thunder Bay’s lead to three. 29-seconds after Firth’s second, Bavneet Dhaliwal would net her fifth of the season to give North Shore a fighting chance, but this was the last goal either team would see that evening. Alex Young (18/19) would steer aside all nine of NSW’s shots in the third, calmly leading her team to victory Thursday evening.

Delta Hockey Academy Green (3) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (4/OT) U15 Prep

A couple of late goals turned out to be the difference maker in this close affair between two of the U15 Prep division’s titans. Both academy’s goaltending was rock solid though the first half of the contest, Matthew Wong (38/42) put in exceptional work in the first forty but would surrender the game’s first tally which came off the blade of Ben Harvey (2G) who capitalised on a shorthanded break. However, Wong would be redeemed by Kayden Pratt and Treyce Pavlic (1G, 1A), scoring just 2:09 apart from one another, putting Delta Green ahead before the period ended… if it weren’t for a buzzer beater from Kayne Wright (1G, 1A) whose point-shot just trickled through to tie the game up at two. Jack Morgan (1G, 1A) would put Delta Green ahead once more with a solo effort down the right wing. However, once again, a late point shot from a NAX defender, this time Reid Soper, brought this game back to even and ultimately forced an overtime. In the extra frame, Blake Chorney (2A) found Harvey for a one-timer down low, burying the game winner and putting this game to rest.

North Shore Warriors (9) vs Shawnigan Lake School (3) U15 Prep

Lucas Lekakis (4G, 2A) and Chase Vossenaar (2G, 4A) went tick for tack on the night, combining for 12-points in a 9-3 stomping over Shawnigan Lake. Lekakis finished up his hat-trick just 24-seconds into the second and added his fourth late in the third. Vossenaar chipped in on each of Lekakis’s goals, bringing his season total up to 36-points in only 23-games.
