GAME DAY RECAP: March 15, 2024

Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (4) vs Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy (16) U18 Prep Consolation

Defenseman Calvin Coppess (3G, 1A) and forward Jacob Caron (3G, 3A) recorded hat-tricks while Max Jackson (1G, 3A) and CJ Watson (1G, 4A) chipped in with five points as CDA defeated Pilot Mound 16-4. Sanjay Chalupiak (1G, 1A), Kalix Monkman (1G, 1A), Zane Price (1G, 1A) and Jacob Rota scored for PMHA in the loss.听

North Shore Warriors (5) vs OHA Edmonton (4) U15

Kaeleb Kassongo and Cohenn Rotar (2G, 1A) scored 1:20 apart as OHA Edmonton led 2-0 after 20. Rotar scored 1:33 into the second to extend the lead to 3-0. Kenzo Gibson (1G, 1A) and Joel Ngandu (1G, 1A) traded goals before James Koch (1G, 1A) and Ethan Mah (2G) scored power play goals for North Shore to bring them within one. Mah tied the game 3:18 into the third and Max Joseph scored 10 minutes later as North Shore erased a three goal deficit and earned a 5-4 win.听

St. George鈥檚 School (1) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (5) U18 Prep

Landon Marleau scored the lone first period goal as SAHA led 1-0 after 20. Carter Cunningham (2G) scored twice in less than two minutes and Julian Laqua scored a power play goal late in the second as SAHA held a commanding 4-0 lead. Simon Ward scored on the power play 7:40 into the third to get St. George鈥檚 on the board and back into the game. But Ben Polhill (37/38) finished with 37 saves and Will Bell added an empty net goal as SAHA secured a 5-1 win.听

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (4) vs Notre Dame (6) U15

Through the opening forty, the only scoring we would witness would come early and late in the first. Jacob Bate nabbed a powerplay marker 1:50 into play while Kingston Lawford (1G, 3A) scored shorthanded with 45-seconds left on the clock. Scoring would resume in the third and in a grand manner. Joey Jackson (2G) got his first of the period just 46-seconds into the third before Dane Dyer (2G) scored back-to-back goals for PCHA after receiving a four minute powerplay. Notre Dame would pick up another pair of goals to quickly negate any momentum PCHA had gained. Matthew Boekelner鈥檚 fifth goal of the game was enough to keep PCHA at bay and pick up the victory in one of the early games on Friday.听

Wenatchee Wild (6) vs Notre Dame (4) U18 Prep Consolation

A strong first forty minutes from Wenatchee was enough to decide the conclusion to this consolation contest with Notre Dame. During a 1-1 tie, Alex Ewers roofed one shortside to give Wenatchee the lead out of the opening frame. The second period would feature another three Wenatchee goals with Connor Ellingsen (2G) igniting the chain six minutes into play. Notre Dame would strike back with three of their own in the third, but it was too little too late after surrendering five in the first part of the match. Carson Fowler (28/32) picked up the win in goal to give Wenatchee their first win of the consolation bracket.听

Delta Hockey Academy (3) vs Edge School (5) U18 Prep

Edge School improved their round robin record to a perfect 3-0-0, guaranteeing them a spot in the semi-finals for Saturday. Landon DuPont (1G, 3A) was once again a key factor in Edge鈥檚 offence, chipping in the eventual game winner with a sharp angle shot while dropping three assists as a surplus. Brock England also managed to find the scoresheet for Edge鈥檚 fifth goal, sealing the win late after a slight scare early in the frame after Jordan Martin slapped one home past Ryley Budd (38/41). Budd鈥檚 performance was another big piece to keeping Edge alive in this contest, turning aside 38-shots including 15 in the first.听

STAR Hockey Academy (1) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (13) U15 Quarter-Final

NAX breezed through their quarter-final matchup vs. STAR, reaching double digits once again to propel themselves into the semi-finals. Bronsyn Mouille (3G, 3A) led the way with a six point outing, his third straight game with at least five points. Easton Arndt (1G, 4A) picked up five while Ahmad Fayad (1G, 3A) and Teagen Bouchard (2G, 2A) picked up four each. Brody Lukinbill picked up the lone goal for STAR.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (3) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep

Noah Kosick buried a one-timer just under a minute into this contest to put PCHA up by one. However, OHA would get a powerplay opportunity of their own shortly after Kosick鈥檚 goal, leading to a game tying goal from recently signed Portland Winterhawks prospect David Hoy. OHA would end the frame on top after Mathis Preston (2G) continued his dominance, going end-to-end before sniping one past Chayse Johnson (35/39). Preston would strike again in the second off of a silver platter feed from the Osoyoos, BC native, Markus Ruck (2A). Jase Johnstone (1G, 1A) would get one back for PCHA late in the second on a breakaway to hopefully spark some momentum for the third period. PCHA would break into the third with some life, but Liam Ruck (1G, 2A) was able to break free and wire another past Johnson to restore their two goal advantage. Grady Sluggett was able to once again bring PCHA back to within one and things were looking bright for them as they were awarded a powerplay chance late in the third. PCHA would strike crossbar early in the man advantage and would see a few more chances off of perimeter shots, but not another puck was getting past Conner Nicolson (30/33). OHA would go on to secure the victory, going 3-0-0 in the round robin and securing a spot in the semi-finals for Saturday.听

CIH Academy Green (2) vs Bourget College (7) Eastern U18 Prep

Goals by Jeremy Bessette and Merlin Offman (1G, 2A) saw the first period end tied 1-1. Bourget scored five times in the second, including twice in a span of 21 seconds as they took a commanding 6-1 lead into the third. Felipe Miguel Miron (2G, 1A), Ian Burnett, Marc-Antoine Riopel (1G, 1A) and Krystopher Roy all found the back of the net in the Bourget frenzy. Antoine Demers (1G, 1A) and Nathan Landriault (1G, 1A) traded goals in the third to close out the scoring. Maxime Lavoie (19/21) faced just 21 shots in the win.听

RHA Winnipeg (3) vs RHA Kelowna (8) U18 Prep

Cage Smith scored just 1:56 in and Brody Gillespie (3G, 1A) added to the lead 1:14 later. River Arnason would get one back for RHA Winnipeg with four minutes left in the period. Leo Seitz tied the game 5:42 into the second but Kelsen Podworny (2G, 1A) restored the lead 1:01 later. Cruz Waltze and Maddox Gandha (1G, 1A) extended the advantage heading into the third. Gillespie added two more goals to complete the hat-trick and Podworny added his second of the game as RHA Kelowna held a commanding 8-2 lead late in the game. Kayden Turner scored a late consolation goal for RHA Winnipeg.听

BWC Academy (1) vs Edge School (9) U15 Quarter-Final

Led by a four goal performance from Damien Lavallee (4G), Edge School defeated BWC Academy 9-1 to advance to the semi-finals. Alex Han, Remy Koch, Andrew Ragusa (1G, 2A), Chasen Robson (1G, 1A), and Dylan Sherban (1G, 1A) scored the other Edge goals in the win. Defenseman Nolen Miller (3A) added three assists. Santino Iriberri scored the lone BWC Academy goal as his team initially led 1-0 before giving up nine unanswered.听

North Shore Warriors (2) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (5) U18 Prep

Riley Boychuk scored 1:13 into the first as NAX led heading into the second. Owen Brennan tied the game early in the second before Thomas Scobie-Gyug gave North Shore the lead midway through the frame. Affiliate player Riley Thorpe scored his third goal in as many games and Finn Kallay restored the NAX lead just eight seconds later. Daxon Rudolph (1G, 2A) doubled the lead midway through the third and Luke Powell added an empty netter as NAX defeated North Shore 5-2. Sam Saskiw (36/38) made 36 saves for the win.听

Calgary International Hockey Academy (3) vs Shawnigan Lake School (7) U18 Prep

Noah Milford scored 1:19 in while Ethan Watkins (1G, 1A) and Karter Radtke added goals in the first half of the first period. Joshua Polak (1G, 3A) and Marcus Hughes scored late in the first to bring Shawnigan within one. Eli McKamey (2G, 1A) scored 1:27 into the second to tie the game and Brendyn Van Oene (2G, 2A) scored twice to put Shawnigan ahead going into the third. McKamey and Matthew Jackson (1G, 2A) scored third period goals to give Shawnigan a convincing 7-3 win.听

Delta Hockey Academy (5) vs RHA Kelowna (6/OT) U15 Quarter-Final

Yianni Sergiannidis (2G, 1A) and Brady Cyr scored three minutes apart as Delta led 2-0 after 20. Kaius Millan (1G, 1A) and Aiden Andrews (2G, 1A) scored power play goals 1:14 apart early in the second to tie the game. Easton Coupland responded with a power play goal of his own but it was RHA Kelowna who led 4-3 after 40 as Berkeley Reid and Andrews found the back of the net. Jack Leslie extended the lead early in the third before Nicolas Peach (1G, 3A) and Sergiannidis found the听 back of the net to tie the game and force overtime. Miller Watkins (1G, 1A) finished off a back door tap in to give RHA Kelowna the win and a spot 6-5 in the semi finals.听

OHA Edmonton (1) vs Yale Hockey Academy (7) U18 Prep

Yale opened up the first period with a three goal explosion, giving them the momentum moving forward. OHA Edmonton would claw back with one in the second thanks to Hunter Yanick, but Yale鈥檚 offence continued to prevail in the third. Tommy Lafreniere (2G, 1A) opted for two goals in the final frame while Brogan Pilgaard-Kennedy put the cherry on top with their seventh goal of the evening. Nathan Kam (17/18) picked up 17-saves in the win for Yale.

Okanagan Hockey Academy (6/OT) vs Yale Hockey Academy (5) U15 Quarter-Final

A busy first period saw six goals find the back of the net. However, Yale and OHA would find themselves locked at three at the end of the first twenty. Two goals from Lucas Ward (3G, 1A) in the second was able to give Yale the jump on St. George鈥檚 through forty. OHA would claw back with a third period goal thanks to Nathan Marques early on, which was enough to force overtime. In the xtra frame, Ben Campbell (2G) was able to wire home his fifth of the postseason to advance OHA off to the semi-finals where they will face NAX.

North Shore Warriors (1) vs St. George鈥檚 School (2) U15

After a scoreless first, St. George鈥檚 was able to snag the opening goal thanks to an effort from Liam McLean. However, shortly after Ethan Mah would lace a pass up to Kenzo Gibson who would make no mistake wiring one blocker side on Carter Adams. Things would remain tied for a majority of the rest of the contest. That was until Alexander Rode was able to sneak one past Owen Hurlbut with 1:12 remaining in the third period for the eventual game winner.

BWC Academy (4) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (6) U18 Prep

Kai Anderson and Trevor Oishi (2G) scored first period goals as BWC Academy led 2-0 after 20. Oishi and Ty Bonkowski scored early in the second as BWC Academy looked to run away with the game. But Prairie would score six unanswered to take a 6-4 win. Daniel Helary (2G) scored twice in the second, Presley Langevin added a middle frame goal of his own and Cole King, Cohan Kuncio, and Chance Loke found the back of the net in the third to round out the scoring.听
