GAME DAY RECAP: October 8, 2023

Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (5) vs OHA Edmonton (2) U17 Prep

A strong powerplay would help Wenatchee surpass an otherwise tightly knit game versus OHA Edmonton. Dylan Johnson (2G) would find both of his markers on the man advantage while Braden Boman (2G, 2A) had chipped in on all three of their powerplay goals. Nathaniel Madrigal (36/38) would hold down the fort in Wenatchee鈥檚 end, helping fend off five OHA Edmonton powerplays en route to victory.

Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (3) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (6) U17 Prep

Penalty trouble would prohibit OHA Black from making much offensive pressure, allowing Pilot Mound to make strides in their offensive end. Carson Carels (1G, 2A) and Benson Hirst (3A) spearheaded the offence, each having three point performances. Jack Perrier (2G) would net the game鈥檚 opening goal and later seal it up with the eventual game winner half way through the second.听

Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy (5) vs Indigenous Sports Academy (1) U17 Prep

In part of a two goal performance, Verners Veinbergs (2G) would score the game鈥檚 opening goal 1:11 into the first. Kallum Windigo would respond with ISA鈥檚 only goal half way through the first, but this was all they were able to muster against CDA. Shawn Haynes would quickly give the lead back to CDA, ultimately scoring the game winning goal in the process. Seth Goodstriker (49/54) made 49-saves for ISA in their first loss of the season.

Delta Hockey Academy Green (2) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (4) Female U18 Prep

Sage Babey would open the scoring for RHA Kelowna with a silky backhand just 1:55 into the first. However, Maisie Cope (54/58) stood on her head in a hard fought game for Delta Green. RHA Kelowna managed to get three past Delta Green in the first period, but Cope would manage 33-saves throughout the final 40-minutes of play. Molly Cole and Katie Olfert would get two past Madison Bowtell (19/21. Chloe Primerano (1G, 1A) would net the game winner with her 12th goal of the season late in the first.

Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna Red (1) vs North Shore Warriors (5) U17 Prep

The duo of Jake Banicevic (2G, 3A) and Avaraham Brown (2G, 1A) put the scorekeepers to work on Sunday, helping NSW claim their first win of the season. NSW鈥檚 five unanswered goals after surrendering the first to RHA Kelowna Red鈥檚 Rhett Tubello ultimately won them the game. Goaltender Beckham Brossard (36/37) also put in a valid effort to help keep NSW鈥檚 lead substantial as the game ticked on.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (1) vs St. George’s School (5) U15

St. George鈥檚 closes out PCHA once again, winning back-to-back over the weekend on home turf. Logan Okamura (2G) would open the scoring for St. George鈥檚, later being matched by PCHA鈥檚 Emilio de la O Ruiz on the powerplay. Okamura would strike back with a powerplay goal of his own just 1:59 later. St. George鈥檚 would proceed to score three unanswered to close out the win, and their Thanksgiving weekend.

Rink Hockey Academy Winnipeg (2) vs South Alberta Hockey Academy (1) U17 Prep

After taking a boarding penalty early in the game, Gavin Quennelle would spring out of the penalty box off of a stretch feed from Max Dowse, rifling one over the glove of Mattias Radke (24/26) to give RHA Winnipeg the early lead. Carter Haney would later put one top shelf as well to extend RHA Winnipeg鈥檚 lead to two. Fast forward to the third and Garrison Peck scores on a breakaway to cut the deficit to one, but SAHA was unable to establish lasting pressure in the dawning minutes of the third, leading to a victory for RHA Winnipeg.

 

Fairmont Hockey (7) vs Notre Dame (1) U17 Prep

Fairmont continues to show their prowess as guests in Calgary this weekend after toppling Notre Dame with an offensive flurry. Jayden Bahktiari Shirk (1G, 2A) would lead Fairmont in scoring while Cole Bieksa (2A), Brody Stager (2A), and Cullen Tully (2A) all picked up two helpers.

Ontario Hockey Academy Prep (4) vs CIH Academy Green (2) Eastern U18

OHA kept their perfect season alive with a 4-2 win on Thanksgiving Sunday thanks to a late spark from Takanobu Hiraga (2G) who would net two goals in the third period. Hiraga鈥檚 pair of goals tops off a 2-0 comeback for OHA, scoring four unanswered after Marcus Fjeld (1G, 1A) scored one late in the second to help ease tensions before the period closed.

RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (5) vs Wenatchee Wild Hockey Academy (3) U18 Prep

RHA Kelowna would dump a pile of shots on Wenatchee during Sunday鈥檚 affair, but Charlie Keeffe (56/60) made every save he could to give his team a fighting chance for victory. Keeffe made 20-saves in the second period while Max Workman and Gabe Eckdahl would put Wenatchee up by one, leaving the second. Keaton Verhoeff (1G, 1A) would ignite a comeback early in the third with a goal of his own to tie things up, leading to Callum Stone (1G, 1A) and Jake Skogstad scoring 34-seconds apart. Parker Platt (1G, 1A) would give Wenatchee some life with a goal 50-seconds later, but Kelsen Podworny would seal it with an empty netter, closing out the Wild in a nailbiter.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (3) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy Female (5) U18 Prep

An early marker from Shea Warnick gave RHA Winnipeg an early lead, but Pilot Mound would dial in after surrendering one early. Avery Nikirk (2G) and Piper Miller would score 36-seconds apart to give PMHA a two goal lead entering the third, where they would extend that lead to four later on. RHA Winnipeg showed a late push with two quick goals in the latter half of the third, but Alex Mills (49/52) kept her composure and backstopped Pilot Mound to their first win of the CSSHL season.

North Shore Warriors Orange (2) vs Notre Dame Red (3) U17 Prep

Jacob Carroll scored with 15 seconds remaining to give Notre Dame Red a 3-2 win. Kohl Stephan got Notre Dame on the board late in the second and Mason Miller tied the game midway through the third after North Shore had grabbed a 2-0 lead. Robert Orr and Graeson Miller (1G, 1A) scored the North Shore goals. Owen MacLean (38/40) made 38 saves in the win.听

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy White (2) vs Prairie Hockey Academy Blue (3) U17 Prep

Tyce Wynia opened the scoring as PCHA White led 1-0 after 20. Riedar Armstrong (2G) would tie the game midway through the second but Ryan Christenson (1G, 1A) responded for PCHA White just 49 seconds later. A late period goal by Diezyl Hehr would tie the game before Armstrong scored the game winner with 1:52 left. Riley Brown (28/30) made 28 saves to earn the win while Parker Parrish (30/33) was charged with the loss.听

OHA Edmonton Black (4) vs Delta Hockey Academy Black (5) U17 Prep

Nicholas Campbell (2G), Jordan Nguyen, Ronan Coopman (1G, 2A), and Noah Cook all scored for Delta Black as they led 5-2 late in the third. But OHA Edmonton Black wouldn鈥檛 go away without a fight, scoring twice in the final 20 seconds to give Delta Black a scare. Ultimately, the comeback would fall short as Lucas Szulc (42/46) denied OHA Edmonton Black of a potential tying goal. Paulo Borrelli (3A), Braydon Franks (1G, 2A) and Ben Shaw (1G, 2A) had three point games for OHA Edmonton Black in the loss.听

Shawnigan Lake School (3) vs Edge School Gold (5) U17 Prep

Matthew MacKay opened the scoring for Shawnigan but it was Edge Gold who led 2-1 after 20 thanks to goals from Rory Frew and David Byrrne. Eastin Sangris would tie the game before Ryan Boyce and Nigel Alberts traded goals. In the third Christopher White scored the eventual game winner and Miles Copeland (1G, 1A) added some late insurance as Edge Gold held on for a 5-3 victory.听

Yale Hockey Academy (2) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme Blue (3/SO) U17 Prep

A battle of two undefeated teams required five extra minutes and then a shootout to decide the outcome, with NAX Blue prevailing 3-2. Ryker Swanson opened the scoring for Yale 1:28 in and Mats Lajoie (2G) countered with a first period tally of his own. Hudson May scored the lone second period goal but a late Lajoie third period marker sent the game to OT. Parker Snell (27/29) stopped all three Yale shooters and Davis Glenn scored the lone goal for NAX Blue to secure the win. Carson Lang (52/54) faced 54 shots in the Yale net.听

Coeur d鈥橝lene Hockey Academy Navy (1) vs Edge School Maroon (10) U17 Prep

Edge Maroon outshot CDA Navy 97-9 en route to a 10-1 victory. Luca Dufour (4G) led all skaters with four points. Sebastian Conne-Correnti (2G) and Sawyer Samycia (2G) each scored twice. Bennett Byers (87/97) made 87 saves in the loss.听

Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna Black (3) vs Delta Hockey Academy Green (5) U17 Prep

Nathan Gray and Owen McCarthy traded first period goals and Aidan Fisher and Dalton Toma (1G, 2A) did the same in the second. Nathaniel Danielson (1G, 1A) gave Delta Green an early third period lead before Brady Walker (1G, 1A) tied the game late. But Lukas Lima (1G, 1A) would score on the power play with 1:30 remaining and Max Malinousky (1G, 2A) would add to the lead with 33 seconds left as Delta Green pulled away late for a 5-3 win.听

Northern Alberta Xtreme White (7) vs BWC Academy White (0) U17 Prep

NAX White stayed undefeated with a 7-0 win over BWC Academy white. Ryan Schrock (2G) scored twice while Saul Astill (2A), Kasen Harrold (2A) and Kyle Jamiseon (2A) each had two assists. Taylor Raynard (25/25) was in net for the shutout.听

Okanagan Hockey Academy (3/OT) vs Prairie Hockey Academy White (2) U17 Prep

Tucker Robertson (1G, 1A) opened the scoring in the first and Ryland Molde鈥檚 first of the season in the second tied the game heading into the third. Jaxon Nicol would give Prairie White their first lead midway through the third but Will Scott would tie the game just minutes later with a power play marker. In OT Seth Flett (1G, 1A) would score his first of the season, unassisted, to give OHA a 3-2 win. Conner Nicolson (33/35) would pick-up the win in net for OHA.听

Calgary International Hockey Academy (7) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy Blue (6) U17 Prep

A high scoring affair saw CIHA come out on top 7-6 over PCHA Blue. Brendan Rudolph (2G, 2A) and Kaden Hayes (1G, 2A) paced the CIHA offence while Erich Baxter (19/25) made 19 saves in the win. Madden Cruickshank (3A) and Tristan Gravenor (1G, 2A) had three points each for PCHA Blue in the loss. Ashton Fummerton (45/52) was charged with the loss.听

St. George’s School (2) vs BWC Academy Gold (8) U17 Prep

BWC Academy Gold outshot St. George鈥檚 60-29 en route to an 8-3 win Sunday night. Colton Gerrior (2G, 1A) followed up yesterday鈥檚 seven point performance with three points while all but three BWC Academy Gold skaters found their name on the scoresheet. Noah Sinagowitz (27/29) made 27 saves for his first win of the 2023/24 season. Lucas Benn and Isaac Derksen scored for St. George鈥檚 in the loss.
