Alessandro Sforza (17/18) was in goal for the win, only being beaten once by Daniel Li early in the second.

Okanagan Hockey Academy (1) vs Calgary International Hockey Academy (4) U15

A four goal spell from CIHA in the first would ultimately hand them the victory. Eric Sexton (1G, 1A) got things started off halfway through the first for CIHA and was quickly followed up by Liam Nycholat (1G, 1A), picking up his 11th of the season. Jase Morey and Sexton would once again pick up another quick pair, increasing CIHA’s lead to four by the end of the frame. OHA would go on to outshoot CIHA for the remainder of the contest, but other than Cruz Rasmussen’s second period tally, OHA was stifled by Taylor Green (29/30). Green would go on to make 29-stops in this Saturday matchup, playing a key role in CIHA’s victory throughout the final two periods.

OHA Edmonton (2) vs BWC Academy (3/SO) U18 Prep

Calgary Hitmen prospect Jonathan Bitonti (2G) would open the scoring late in the first with a wrist shot off the rush. Into the second, the low scoring trend continued as Kaden Wilkins (1G, 1A) picked up the lone goal of the frame to put OHA Edmonton on the board. Things would remain docile in the third until OHA Edmonton would make a late strike shorthanded. Ben Shaw would put away a feed from Wilkins to establish the late lead. With the goalie pulled, BWC Academy was pouring on all that they could and would eventually be rewarded. Bitonti would tie things up with 48-seconds left off a steaming one-timer from the left circle. Overtime would see its fair share of chances, but none more dangerous than Kadyn O’Brien’s. However, Parker Snell (34/36) stood tall and comfortably steered aside O’Brien’s partial breakaway. A shootout was eventually needed and Calum Giese applied the early pressure after selling a kick fake before roofing one backhand over Adler Ames (35/37). Bitonti would miss BWC Academy’s first chance but their next two shooters Gianni Bosa and Lukas Lima would make no mistakes, securing BWC Academy’s victory after tying things late in the third.

Delta Hockey Academy Black (4) vs STAR Hockey Academy (5/SO) U15

Delta Black would set the tone for the first portion of this contest, going up 2-0 after Cash Field (2G) extended their lead in the second. However, STAR wouldn’t count themselves out, scoring twice in quick succession. Delta Black’s Kevin Goodale (1G, 1A) would restore the lead later in the frame but would be immediately answered by STAR’s Camden Freeman (2G, 1A). Into the third, Field would put Delta Black back in front with a jam play in front. Delta Black would hold on to this lead into the late stages of the game, but a late five hole cram from Olan Ward would force overtime. In overtime, STAR was hemmed in their own zone, kept alive by the stellar goaltending of Cameron Rusyniak (52/56). Rusyniak’s efforts helped give STAR another chance in the shootout, which would go on to see seven rounds of shooters. In the final frame, Rusyniak would stone Taegeon Park on the backhand setting up a game winning opportunity for Brayden Bardwell. Bardwell would beat Brayden Allan (21/25) fivehole, completing the comeback and the upset victory for STAR Hockey Academy.

Prairie Hockey Academy (2) vs Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (4) U18 Prep

In today’s CSSHL Featured Game, Prairie would take the early lead thanks to an individual effort from Noah Kelly off a hard forecheck and a prettier finish. PHA would carry this lead into the second but would face some adversity as Trace Anderson (1G, 2A) would wire home a powerplay marker four minutes into play. Shortly after, PCHA’s Ben Wetterberg (3G, 1A) would rip one past Cameron Beisal (47/51) to put the Sea Devils ahead. Wetterberg would go on to add yet another one for PCHA, giving them a 3-1. Kelly would get a penalty shot opportunity at the end of the second but would not fool Sam Saskiw (41/43). Into the third, Reid Fraser would make things a one goal game at the halfway point of the frame, but once again, Wetterberg would provide another goal for PCHA, completing his hat-trick and a four-point effort as PCHA would hold on for the win.

Edge School (7) vs OHA Edmonton (1) Female U18 Prep

Ryann Chimera was able to grant OHA Edmonton the opening goal of the contest, enough to give them the lead into the second. However, Edge School would find their groove in the second. Ignited by Samantha Baker (2G, 2A), Edge would go on to score three unanswered in the second and another four in the third, ultimately capping off a 7-1 victory. Along with Baker, Abby Lee (4A) chipped in for four points. Jenna Ring (23/24) made 23-saves in the victory for Edge.

Mount Academy (2) vs Bishop’s College School (6) East U18

Bishop’s College School had a knack for scoring highlight reel goals in their Saturday matchup with Mount Academy, starting off with a back and forth passing play between Milan Turena and Tomas Sedlacik. BCS would build on to a 3-0 lead at this point before Tristan Gagnon (2G) hit the brakes before wiring home the Bears’ fourth of the evening. Into the third, Gavin Rusenstrom would spot Zach Jockers with a behind the back pass before Jockers would rifle one past the blocker hand of William Talbot (56/62). Mount’s Cohen Paul and Bryson Robinson would snag a quick pair, but Gagnon would score an empty netter late to seal up BCS’s win.

Coeur d’Alene Hockey Academy (3) vs St. George’s School (4/SO) U17 Prep

It was all CDA to start off Saturday’s evening affair. Preston Dalebout (1G, 1A) would go end-to-end before roofing one shortside to open the scoring. Moments after Dalebout’s highlight reel marker, Quinton Wade would score off a deflection in front to double CDA’s lead. Chase Pouchnik would add another to CDA’s lead before the end of the frame. St. George’s would struggle to find the back of the net in the early stages of the second. It wasn’t until Byron Chin (2G) scored with under five minutes to go, giving the Saints some hope heading into the dressing room. Early in the third, Holden Tuttle (1G, 1A) would cut the deficit to one. Shortly after, Chin would bury his second, tying the game up at three a piece and forcing overtime and an eventual shootout. The first five shooters couldn’t find twine, leaving Aaron Castro with a chance to end things all in the third round, where he would go on to make no mistake, capping off St. George’s comeback after a lacklustre first period. Carter Adams (47/50) played a big role in net for the Saints, making 47-saves including 30 through the final forty-five minutes of play.

STAR Hockey Academy (7/OT) vs BWC Academy (6) U15 Prep

A pair of early goals, including a shorthanded beauty from Justin Moon, gave BWC Academy the go ahead lead in the first. However, a powerplay goal from Ronin Brunner (1G, 1A) would put STAR on the board shortly after Moon’s tally. Come the second, STAR would build off of what they started late in the first, scoring three unanswered to build a 4-2 lead heading late into the frame. Kenzo Gibson (2G) gave BWC Academy some life with another shorthanded goal off a takeaway in the defensive end. Dylan Gale would revive STAR’s two goal lead early in the third, but BWC Academy remained persistent, scoring two in quick succession to make this game even once again. With under four minutes to go, Lincoln Angst would give STAR the go ahead goal but once again BWC Academy would quickly respond with Gibson coming to the rescue on a jam play in close quarters around Erik Sims’s (35/41) cage. In overtime, BWC Academy would see one quality chance on a 2-on-1 but Sims would stick out the right pad just in time to give STAR another chance. Play would continue the other way and Braxton Baker (2G) would demonstrate his wicked release, firing one past Bentley Edgar’s (10/13) right ear for the overtime winner. STAR improves their record against BWC Academy to 2-0-0.

Edge School (3) vs Prairie Hockey Academy (2) U17

Henry Doucette (1G, 1A) gifted Edge School the initial lead with the lone goal of the first period. Edge would build on their advantage in the second as Winston Chicilo scored 43-seconds into play. Later in the frame, Charlie Sarich would nab his first of the season on the powerplay, increasing Edge’s lead to 3-0. Prairie would show some life in the third, scoring twice, but failing to find the tying goal in the late stages. Emerson Popil (22/24) picked up the win in goal, tallying an assist in the process as well.
