GAME DAY RECAP: February 24, 2024

South Alberta Hockey Academy (1) vs RINK Hockey Academy Kelowna (7) Female U18 Prep

Emelia McDermid (1G, 4A) continues her scorching hot play as of late, picking up 5-points against SAHA Saturday morning. Saskatoon, SK’s Alida Korte (3G, 1A) also managed to snag a hat-trick in the process. Further noted, Gracie Graham’s (1G, 1A) first goal in the second included Chloe Primerano’s (3A) 50th assist of the season, a feat that was yet to be accomplished in the Female U18 Prep division. In net for SAHA, Tayler Cohen (74/81) made a whopping 74-saves, keeping her SV% above 0.900% despite the barrage of shots.

Edge School (9) vs BWC Academy (3) U15 Prep

Edge was firing on all cylinders from the moment puck dropped as Brock England (2G, 1A) put his academy on the board just 29-seconds in. Matthew Hilderman (2G, 1A) would follow up a few minutes later with a shorthanded marker. Richard Wonyeneh would stop the bleeding for BWC Academy, recording a goal in his fifth straight game. However, Edge would put their foot back on the gas pedal and unleash their offence once again. England and Jack Bissoon (2G, 1A) would rapidly score one after another to extend Edge’s lead to 4-1. Logan Henry would get one back for BWC Academy as a last ditch effort, but it wasn’t enough to spark an early comeback. Zephyr Harms made it closer with a shorthanded goal early in the second, but Edge went on for five-unanswered to close out this offensive frenzy.

Pacific Coast Hockey Academy (4) vs Delta Hockey Academy Black (2) U15 Prep

Following a scoreless first, Rylan Franklin got Delta Black on the board with a shorthanded goal halfway through the second. However, before the end of the frame PCHA’s Tyson Jeske would record a shorthanded goal of his own, tying the game up at one before the ice clean. In the third, PCHA would strike twice in 20-seconds thanks to the efforts of Kieran Wilson and Dalin Nixon. Jonell Daychief would bring Delta Black back to within one, but an EN goal from Channon Fummerton sealed the victory for PCHA.

Notre Dame (1) vs OHA Edmonton (6) U15

OHA Edmonton may have taken this contest by a 5-goal margin, but without the valued effort of Adrian Ferro (44/45) it may have taken a completely different turn. The Drumheller, AB native racked up 44-saves across this match and even picked up an assist as a bonus. Offensively, the consistent production from Joel Ngandu (1G, 2A) and Brayden Tucker (2A) made a severe impact on the game. Micah Montgomery (1G, 1A) and Jackson Fuller (2G) also made a substantial impact on the game’s score.Ìý

Northern Alberta Xtreme (2) vs Delta Hockey Academy Black (4) Female U18 Prep

A quick two goal burst from Delta Black in the first made all the difference in Winnipeg Saturday morning. Gabriella Lee (1G, 1A) got things started off with her 15th of the season, which led to Eden Hamel doubling Delta Black’s lead just 1:25 later. Caris Erickson would cut NAX’s deficit to one late in the frame, but this wouldn’t spark any meaningful momentum for the second, despite having three opportunities on the powerplay. Delta Black would strike once more in the third to reestablish their two goal lead with praise to Gracie Bragnall-Dubru. This would go on to be the game winner as NAX pulled back to within one shortly after. Sonja Reed (43/45) stood on her head in this victory, racking up 43-saves, including 20 in the third for her fifth win on the season.ÌýÌý

Thunder Bay Queens (0) vs Shawnigan Lake School (3) Female U18 Prep

A potent middle frame was all Shawnigan needed to put away the yet to be defeated Queens. It all started with Taya Lonsdale getting Shawnigan on the board just 2:41 in. Lonsdale was followed up by Grace Cooper and Lola Macuiba to establish their 3-0 lead. From there on out, things were smooth sailing. Alexandra Nelson (19/19) picked up her fourth shutout on the season while Thunder Bay’s Alex Young (39/42) displayed a resilient effort in the loss, nearly snatching up a 40-save performance.Ìý

North Shore Warriors (7) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (2) U15 Prep

Lucas Lekakis (1G, 2A) and Chase Vossenaar (2G, 1A) remain red hot at this U15 Prep showcase in Calgary, combining for 6-points in this contest and 23-points across their last three games. Their efforts were once again greatly appreciated in this contest alongside the performances of Peter Banicevic (2G, 1A), Casey Pearson (2G, 1A) and Kayden Runstedler (3A) who all chipped in three points each to the scoresheet as well. Elias Mitrikas (23/25) scooped up the win between the pipes for his fifth W on the season.

Prairie Hockey Academy White (5) vs Rink Hockey Academy Winnipeg (4) U17 Prep

After a busy first period, PHA White came out on top with a 3-2 lead. Kale Pratte (3G) was a main contributor to this early success, picking up two goals only 45-seconds apart after River Arnason opened the scoring for RHA Winnipeg. The second period would be a lot less eventful as Rory Dewar was the lone goal scorer, thus tying things up for RHA Winnipeg. In the third, both academies would trade goals quickly one after another. Garrett Sehn put PHA White back into the lead but Carter Haney responded just under two minutes later. Soon after Haney’s equaliser, Pratte came to the rescue, picking up his hat-trick goal and the eventual game winner.Ìý

Prairie Hockey Academy (1) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (7) U15 Prep

Cohen Handby (1G, 3A) opened up the scoring for OHA with the lone goal in the first. Brady Vipond responded early in the second period to put OHA in their place… but this would be the last time they would taste twine on Saturday. OHA went on to blow PHA out of the water with six-unanswered goals. Tristan Hoko (2G, 3A) and Eli Tverdovsky (2G, 2A) would go on to be the main benefactors in this offensive showcase with Handby chipping in with the playmaking. Trail, BC’s Alex Youngson (22/23) picked up the win in goal.

CIH Academy Green (2) vs Bishop’s College School (7) Eastern U18 Prep

Defenceman Lukas Eich (3G, 1A) was the main star in Bishop’s College win over CIH Green, providing a hat-trick and 4-points from the blueline. Elliot Wright (2G) also chipped in with a multi-goal effort to really seal in the win. Sky Willer (39/41) would also go on to play a big role in net, turning aside 39-shots, 18 of which were in the third.

Notre Dame (2) vs Pilot Mound Hockey Academy (3/OT) U17 Prep

Dane Gillis (50/53) was turning away Pilot Mound’s fierce offence for a majority of the contest, not surrendering one until halfway through after Ryder Stimson (1G, 1A) connected on the powerplay to tie the game at one. Come the third, Liam McCloy was able to put Notre Dame back ahead just 26-seconds in. Gillis would play a big role in maintaining this lead going forward in the final frame as Pilot Mound was giving Notre Dame everything they had. Late in the period, Notre Dame’s defence would finally snap, as Dylan Line (1G, 1A) was able to find a route past Gillis to force OT. In overtime, Benson Hirst would wire home his 16th of the season on the powerplay to complete the late comeback for Pilot Mound.

Okanagan Hockey Ontario U18 (1) vs Ontario Hockey Academy Prep (12) Eastern U18

Only two OHA Prep skaters left the ice without a point in this offensive onslaught. Product of Norway, Oliver Nilsgaard (4G, 2A) produced a staggering 6-points while Ryan Boon (2G, 2A) and Cole Shepherdson (2G, 2A) also chipped in multi-goal performances.

Okanagan Hockey Academy Black (6) vs Rink Hockey Academy Kelowna Red (3) U17 Prep

A strong first frame was the difference maker for OHA Black en route to their 6-3 triumph over RHA Kelowna Red. Lane Peet (2G, 1A) opened and closed the scoring in the period while Wade Gallamore stepped up on the penalty kill and put away a shorthanded breakaway. That fourth goal from Peet would go on to be the game winner, only because of Charlie Peppinck’s (31/33) efforts in goal as he steered aside 22/24 shots through the final forty minutes of play.

Edge School (3) vs Delta Hockey Academy Green (4/OT) Female U18 Prep

Another Maisie Cope (39/42) masterclass was the engine behind Delta Green’s victory. After Delta Green found themselves down by one after forty, Cope kept her academy alive making 17-saves in the final frame. Out of the 11-shots Delta Green would throw at Alexis Ehrman (37/41) one would find its way through, which had come off of the stick of Erica Barnard. In the extra frame, Molly Cole (2G) nabbed her second of the night with only 1:11 left on the clock, completing the win from behind for Delta Green.

RINK Hockey Academy Winnipeg (2) vs Okanagan Hockey Academy (3) Female U18 Prep

A productive first was all OHA needed offensively to put away RHA Winnipeg. Maddy Niesh (2G) scored the first two goals for OHA while Sofie Thompson nabbed her second of the season with only 2:38 left to put her academy up by three. From here on out, RHA Winnipeg was firing as much as they could on goal. Jaya Schippel (34/36) remained composed throughout the final stretch and accumulated 25-stops in that timeframe, allowing only Addison Dyck and Kate Nechwediuk to get a pair past her in the second. Schippel’s 15-saves in the third period was enough to shutdown RHA Winnipeg as OHA went on to pick up their second consecutive victory.

Shawnigan Lake School (2) vs Delta Hockey Academy (6) U18 Prep

Miles Eddie (1G, 1A) picked up his first goal of the season to open up the scoring in favour of Delta, setting the tone for the rest of the way. Nickolas Kovich (1G, 1A) would put away another goal for Delta later in the frame. Delta took its offence another step forward in the second, as Ryan Lin (3G) grabbed his first two goals en route to a hat-trick. Eli McKamey broke Armaan Kaila’s (33/35) potential shutout, but the Delta-native remained composed and turned aside 25/27 shots he faced through the final two periods, backstopping Delta to a much needed victory.

Yale Hockey Academy (1) vs Northern Alberta Xtreme (6) U15 Prep

Asher Halliday (2G) scored 1:11 into the game to set the tempo for the NAX offence which would produce six goals on the day. Aidan Poulin added a goal later in the first and Thayne Wasyluk scored midway through the second. Chase Smith got Yale on the board just a few minutes later with a power play tally but Halliday and Gavin Harrison (2G) quickly responded for NAX.
